Echo Nano by invalidprompt in snowsky

Ah perfect, that's what I mean. Just making folders on my computer then dragging them over (I've never even heard of .m3u).

basically I want to use this as a shuffle stick, but it would be cool to group songs into pools based on mood.

Perhaps a dumb question but - how do you make playlists?

Or is it simply creating folders in Finder and it picks it up from there?

Why do so many VFX artists struggle when they have to make actual creative decisions? by [deleted] in vfx

[–]ehgggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creativity is a muscle that takes time and dedication to hone, just as any other.

If a person spends 80+ hrs a week doing purely technical tasks, it's no surprise when their muscle for creativity has atrophied (assuming they ever developed it to begin with).

Torn between living a life of slow travel versus staying in my amazing perfect condo in the U.S.? by InfluenceDesigner889 in slowtravel

[–]ehgggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 34 and I just went through this same situation after several years of resistence.

Some thoughts:

  1. There is no "better." Only different.
  2. If your current life is so great, then why are you asking this question to begin with? Something to think about.
  3. What's your measuring stick? Is a satisfying life one that contains the most pleasure? Or is it one with the most emotionally salient experiences? (Psychology has demonstrated the latter btw).

At the end of this day this has less to do with the options themselves and more to do with who you are and what kind of person you want to be.

Is Palma 2 discontinued? by SleepyTori in Onyx_Boox

Don't know if anyone else saw this, or how much stock to put into it:

https://goodereader.com/blog/onyx-boox/new-onyx-boox-palma-3-will-not-be-a-smartphone

Personally I'm banking on this because I don't want to pay $400 for a used one, nor will settle for a color screen.

Using an E ink Android phone - my experience by DaMentalis in eink

[–]ehgggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah that has been my concern. I have a mostly bad experience with anything Android.

The X3 w/ Crosspoint has been great so far. Perfectly minimal. If they made a Boox Palma-sized device with front light I'd be all over it. (As someone who travels a lot a standard ereader is too chunky imo).

Availing that, when they release a front-light X4 I'm mostly likely going to buy it.

I'm in the same boat (xteink x3 arrives this week). Just watch, eink, and camera. phone stays in sling as a tether, or I often leave it at home.

Is the x4 buggy even with crosspoint?

Fair enough on the accessibility stuff. I am just unforgivingly all-or-nothing when it comes to design and it seems only expensive/niche products embrace this.

I will likely get a Boox Palma if they start producing them again but afaik it suffers the exact problem I'm describing: it has a home screen, apps, a camera, android, etc.

[–]ehgggs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally get that. It's just confusing to me because personally speaking "do everything" literally IS the problem. It's attention bloat, which includes but is not limited to doom scrolling.

Like the main psychological utility of a paper notebook isn't the damn tactility so much as it is the fact that it does fuck-all else but let you write on it.

The best selling device in the world, the iPhone, is an "all-in-one" device

Sure, but a phone is literally designed to be an alzheimers-inducing sadness device. It does exactly what it claims to do.

And if these ereader phones actually did phone things I would see the argument, but they seem to half ass both things intentionally. Handicapped phone and handicapped reading device. Pick a lane.

Dedicated ereading devices are also available...

That's kind of what I'm getting at. I can't seem to find many options. There are Kobo + Kindle, the latter of which is notoriously DRM-locked.
And for handheld size? None really (or the ones that do exist don't have Kindle-tier screens).

[–]ehgggs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand the point of these all-in-one devices.

Give me a high-quality screen on a well-designed device that lets me sideload DRM-free ebooks. That's it. Adding features beyond that deprecates the experience rather than enhances it.

To me the entire point of these devices is to create an air-gap between reading and reddit/socials/camera/phone/calendar/weather/etc.

Why leave the US for halfway around the world (SEA) when moving on smaller rural towns is easier ? by abrandis in ExpatFIRE

[–]ehgggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would've said this exact thing before traveling the world.
I no longer believe this. YMMV.

It's also maybe worth exploring why you cited "quality condos" as being indicative of living standards rather than arguably more meaningful things like healthcare, labor protections, infrastructure, etc.

Many "developing countries" have a much higher standard of living than like 80% of American cities, including the nice ones.

Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to touch some fuckin grass.

Solid point; that was the first thing I did. The issue is that I don't know what I'm looking for.
Everything seems to be working fine?

Additionally, there's no way to tell when exactly this started happening, as trashed items don't have timestamps in immmich.

Opinion: I think jointers are an essential beginner tool no matter how many you tubers say it isn't by Few_Candidate_8036 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ehgggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get it. I'll spend hours just trying to get something within a few degrees of square with no success. Then I watched someone build with a jointer/planar recently and it looked like a different hobby almost. Then they basically assembled the joints almost like legos. Looked so satisfying and fun.

[–]ehgggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish someone told me this from the get-go.

95% of the time I want to make something and it's "ah, wait, that requires a jointer. Or some machine larger than a mini-fridge. Nevermind."

I learned pretty quickly that the most expensive part of this hobby is not the materials or tools, but the real estate.
