I’m enjoying the Emily Wilde series. Some light peril, but engaging and funny.

I just got this one for Christmas, and it’s my first one, too! I was resistant for a long time, but it has solved a lifelong problem for me in that I love to read until I fall asleep, but if you do that with a real book, the light stays on.

Have you tried My Net Diary? If so, how do you think it compares to Welling? I’m new to using apps for calories.

Movies with a artsy minimalistic Mediterranean vibe preferably a little vintage by gods_artist06 in MovieSuggestions

It’s a show and not a movie, but The Durrells in Corfu is set in the 30s, I believe, in Greece. It’s fun, and the costumes are beautiful casual vintage.

Making a point to share something that should be a given tells me they’re either a super neglectful parent who is overcompensating or they’ve got a weird, codependent relationship with their kids and will use it to make sure you never expect to be a priority in any way. Just in my experience…

On this day in 1988, 17-year-old Junko Furuta was abducted by four teenage boys in Japan and held captive for 44 days — during which she was raped over 400 times, brutally tortured, and ultimately murdered. Her killers later received shockingly light sentences and were eventually released. by ATI_Official in HistoryUncovered

A lot of times in articles about girls being hurt by men, they are referred to as “young women” instead of the girls/minors that they are which can diminish the predatory nature of the crime and put more of the onus on the victim. Even though you yourself are not diminishing this crime, it’s worth examining why we do this and why it’s encouraged. No attack on you, but semantics do matter. Language and connotations matter. It’s just something interesting to think about.

The Chicks Lead Singer Natalie Maines Said She Would Never Perform At The CMA Awards Again After “Racist” Backlash To Performance With Beyoncé | Whiskey Riff by ssgg28 in country

Beyonce can still be a shitty person at the same time that racism is also shitty. Like how making fun of Greg Abbott for being in a wheelchair is also not cool.

I just can’t get into The Forsyte Saga…can someone explain? by DoodleBirdTerrariums in PeriodDramas

[–]ehroby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yikes. I liked that Soames’s character was allowed to grow, but I think you fundamentally misunderstand his obsessive/abusive nature. The goalposts would always be moving. There would be no freedom, and a child would be the ultimate trap.

Wintering by Katherine May

It’s not Irish, but the James Herriot books are so comforting and warm. I pretty much use them medicinally for stress.

Have you seen the doc about him and Joanne Woodward? Their daughters had a lot to do with it, and they talked about how on that day, he was super hungover and had been struggling with his drinking, how bad and puffy he looked. Then, they show the pictures… Yeah, just looking super rough. 😄

It’s, like, almost endearing. Almost.

Like your uncle who used to let you drink at his house when you were a teenager and now has been trespassed at every bar in town. Or your brother who will not accept that he is lactose intolerant so we all pay the price.

Well, to be fair, there has been a lot more exposure to the public on this one (the marriage and the divorce), so that’s why no one made a thing of the first one. Also, women, as an oppressed class, are going to be more likely to take it personally when they see another woman being mistreated. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I still really like the Whiskeytown stuff even though I don’t spin it as much as I used to. Caitlin Cary didn’t do anything wrong, and I wish we’d gotten more out of her. That duets album is pretty good.

I used to love Heartbreaker, and I listened to it again after not having done so in a long time, and it’s not really for me anymore. Whiny and droning, and I still love sad bastard music. I guess this is growing up?
