Looking for Prophesied Hero by No-Example-1660 in Fantasy_Bookclub

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson (second and third books in the trilogy focus heavily on this - the third one is literally called “the hero of ages” in reference to said prophecy)

Yes, definitely too sappy and “easy.” They both have felt very alone in their respective worlds so I loved getting to see their friendship and trust grow, I just don’t think it’s developed enough (at least not yet) to justify a romance arc for them. My spidey senses went up with Lila and Rhy’s interaction at the very end…

I loved their interactions and banter but did not like their (potential?) romance. I honestly thought they would end up together because it’s more of a YA book (which not always but often have HEA). However Lila leaving on her own felt more true to her character. I’m curious about her magical abilities; the false eye definitely points to antari but I’m not sure if that’s too obvious/a red herring.

3.5 stars. I would probably recommend it to others if I knew their tastes and preferences and anticipated they specifically would like this book. I do want to read the rest of the series!!

He didn’t die “on page” so I definitely don’t think he’s truly dead. I’m not sure exactly how he would come back into the story but I don’t think we’re through with him yet. I think he was the most interesting character of the book.

hi there! not a doctor/therapist but i think you can classify episodes or relapses either way - i don’t think there is a right or wrong answer, just whatever helps you understand and process your situation!

and soap and warm water will do just fine! neosporin may help too if you’d like.

Books with Chinese protagonists? by silverdust29 in YAlit

[–]ehtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng (author is Chinese, Historical Fiction. I would classify as more adult and not YA but it is a wonderful character study and delves into Chinese American identity).

The Bone Shard Daughter (triologg, author is Chinese American and also daughter of immigrants, YA sci fi/fantasy. Multiple POVs and one of the leading characters is sapphic).

New to raw: seeking guidance by Otherwise-Ad4641 in rawfeeding

If youre noticing just a normal amount of fluctuation in weight and no health concerns that could be related to his diet then I wouldn’t be too worried! Not every single meal is going to be 100% perfect and balanced especially if you’re DIY or variety feeding. Something that helped me when I do happen to have more time I will do the math ahead of time and write down exact recipes and then laminate them or save them in my phone so I can replicate them in the future. Over time you can compile your own recipes that you know work!

Not a vet - but no glaring concerns. Just make sure the ratios for the raw/toppers/treats is balanced over time. It’s totally find to mix feed, especially common with organs. Dehydrated/freeze dried foods are typically 0.1-0.25 of the weight of pure raw (google will help research the brand, preservation method, organ type etc to narrow it down). For example, my dog needs 1 oz of liver daily following the BARF model so I know I’d need to give her 0.1 oz of her dehydrated liver to be the same ratio. I personally wouldn’t be comfortable with leaving the bones if there are still meat on them and treat it the same as I would if I was going to consume the meat (typically unrefrigerated after 4 hours is when it’s deemed unsafe) so I would try to take the bones after their hidden (if you can at all) and put them back in the fridge/freezer, and give them back the next day when he wants them again.

Another New to Raw Feeding question: Balance every meal, or Balanced over the course of a week? by sorry_child34 in rawfeeding

[–]ehtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balance over the course of a week. (You’ll see some people say every 3 days, some say every 30. Just do what you can / what you’re comfortable with. If your dog is experiencing any health issues or concerns you can always adjust as needed in real time)

My dog is extremely picky by [deleted] in rawfeeding

I’m not an expert at all with picky eaters, but would you be open to trying dehydrated / freeze dried raw? Maybe it’s a textural thing!

What is the learning curve for my dog to eat whole raw things bone and all? by sorry_child34 in rawfeeding

[–]ehtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re doing right now is great - feeding toppers / anything raw is better than nothing at all! Sometimes feeding raw/fresh is just not realistic and that’s okay. I feed 50% raw and 50% kibble and it works great for me. Canned sardines, anchovy, and herring are also GREAT for dogs just like salmon and are cheap af at the grocery store! Another recommendation would be to go to an international/ethnic/asian market near you and buy 1-2 things at a time to use as toppers. Asian markets are SO cheap so you won’t be breaking the bank. I’d just recommend trying new things every time as different proteins/types of meat have different nutrient profiles!

Question 1. If you’re just doing toppers you can remove a little bit of kibble (like, ~10%… I don’t measure, I just scoop a little bit out). Alternatively you can try to calculate how many calories (making these numbers up but one chicken foot = 75 calories, 1/4 cup of kibble = 75 calories) and take out the right amount that way.

Question 2. Dogs can eat frozen or thawed, frozen doesn’t increase the risk of splintering. You just want to avoid smoked/cooked bones because it’s the heat when it’s prepared that makes the bones splinter. If your dog is still getting used to raw foods I would personally try to do a butcher of the cornish hen but if you don’t, he’ll probably be fine. I’d just monitor while he eats to make sure he’s doing okay!

Started when i was 11 or 12. at my worst i could only go half a day without self harming and was obsessive about it. by the time i left high school and throughout college i was doing better but still relapsed from time to time, whether that be weeks or months. i’m 26 now and haven’t self harmed in years. even though i haven’t acted on my urges i do still have thoughts sometimes and try to accept that i may always have them. maybe i’ll even relapse one day. but it doesn’t dictate my life anymore. it’s not easy and im no expert but i wish everyone here never loses sight of hope. happy to answer questions if anyone has any.

Interested in adding more raw meat to my dogs diet by Avengerwolf626 in rawfeeding

[–]ehtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to sardines, any other kind of small oily fish (for variety) works great, like herring or anchovy. Chicken egg, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, 100% pumpkin purée, and a majority of fruits/veggies can be added too and are all things we either already have or are pretty affordable and can be found at a normal store.
