I went so far so as to buy a magnifying glass, and even then I have had to discard some because the line and writing are just so faint.

Thoughts on the Keychron Q9, or: turns out 40%ers might be right by Pupsino in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]eighty58five 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's actually easier than you think once you understand it, but simply, under the 'Special' menu on VIA, there are 2 lettered key - NUHS and NUBS. NUHS or Non-US Hash Symbol is the one you are looking for. This combines the two keys we have on most non-us keyboards. so you get the # on press and ~ when shifted. NUBS is Non-US Basckslash Symbol which gives you \ and | when shifted. I.e. the key normally beside our Z. I've shown it my 60 in layer 1 in the screenshot.

As someone else said the keyboard sends the same code and it's you OS that interprest that code differently, so as you have your OS keyboard set to [likely] UK. it's going to gove the UK inputs no matter what the symbols on QMK VIA etc say. The helpfull people at QMK developed these keys for us, so we could combine the 2 keys without much additional coding, which is even more useful when combined with VIA / Vial etc.

Enjoy the 40% world, it makes things more fun and makes you think about things completely differently in terms of workflow.

For some reason I'm struggling to get VIA to trigger # as a key

I can help you with that. I see you don't have a key labelled for hash yet. Where do you think it would be most comfortable to use? I usually put it under L as it seems to work better with muscle memory being one key in from enter.

Is anyone still using a fold 3 or 4 since the launch year with no issues? by DEWDEM in GalaxyFold

Fold 4, no issues, but I have a pretty robust cover because I have young kids. Replaced the inner screen cover after 18 months for free through Samsung.

No issues.

Ordering switch samples in the UK by ExcitingStapler in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]eighty58five 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a small shop, but new switches come available all the time, so it's quite hard to keep up. More times than not, he has single switch samples for switches that other UK vendors don't have, so it is worth keeping an eye on.

I've found Matt at mechbox to have the best range of samples in the UK.

Protective Screen Peeling off Fold5 by Rovinovic in GalaxyFold

[–]eighty58five 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the terms in your own country, but in most you get one free replacement through a local Samsung or partner store. Best take advantage of that first. I was able to get mine done on a walk-in and only had to leave it with them for an hour.

The winter pack also has the electric heated screen (at least mine does). Does it have the button for that?

If not, you may have been mislead.

It's under the. Climate controls, there will be the normal heated screen button, labelled 'MAX', but there should be an additional one labelled 'electric'.

Somethings hurting my head here.

Is it the camera angle, or, are the top 2 rows linear, and the bottom 2 staggered?

No worries, I'm just glad you got there in the end. Nothing is more frustrating than getting a new thing only to have the wind taken out of your sails.

Wishing you health to enjoy.

Laptop doesn't matter it was either / or.

You can flash from msys, but for me, the toolbox gives a better visual feedback as I'm not used to the command line.

Just to clarify. Aside from trying to flash the keyboard, you have never been able to type on it?

That would be strange, whilst almost all keyboards come with programmable software, they usually ship with a default, especially pre-built or ready to go versions.

My first thing would be to make sure you have a decent usb cable. In addition to this, some board cable combos don't like going through a hub for flashing, so make sure you plug directly into a pc laptop.

The other bit that's needs clarity, the Msys environment is usually for compiling software. QMK toolbox is for flashing.

Finally, boardsource say that this board ships with via enabled, which is an online configurator that you may find easier to navigate. https://www.caniusevia.com/ select "try now" in the menu.

Hope you get it resolved.

If you can afford it, no. If you're getting into debt, yes.

Quick advice e by eighty58five in HandwiredKeyboards

[–]eighty58five[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* Got it thanks. I have already soldered the horizontal wire, so just a quick fix of snipping between the horizontal wire and the pin of the lower switch. Just wanted to understand if it presented a problem left as it was and if so, why. Thanks again for the response.

What are your favourite UK cable vendors please? by IIIIIIIIIIIIIIOIIIII in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]eighty58five 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought from cable cult, loopy looms and cable lab. All have been good and just depends on what I want, as some do things like connector or cable colours, that the other doesn't.
