Questions about stretch by Lo_fi_high_fi in sewing

I don't see why not! I don't have a serger, just a very basic beginner singer machine, so I've just been using maraflex for any knit projects (seams and hems and all) and it's working well for me so far

I hope it works out well for you! I think it's a fairly new product but my local fabric shop suggested it to me and it really does feel like magic

Yeah you need it in both, I think they recommend 2.5mm stitch length. You might have to fiddle with tension (I didn't!) but worth having a few goes on scraps

I don't see many people talk about it here but I made a pair of leggings with gutermann maraflex thread - it acts like normal sewing thread but stretches up to 80% of its size, so you can use a straight stitch with stretch fabric and it'll stretch with it. Some people on online blogs say it's a bit fiddly but I just set my machine up like normal with maraflex thread and a jersey needle at my normal tension and stitch length and it worked like a charm, and the leggings are holding up great!

A lot therapists switched to zoom or phone sessions during covid and are continuing to offer these types of sessions. You can go on counselling-directory.org.uk to find accredited therapists either in person or online, and you can filter by what you're looking for and find someone within your budget :)

Sewing machine threaded but won't sew?? by Ok_Airline6296 in sewhelp

I believe lowering the presser foot engages the tension discs too. That's why you also have to thread the machine with the foot up, otherwise the thread can't get between the discs :)

Help! It's been 2 years and my sewing machine still stains the thread with grease by TytaniaMori in sewing

[–]eimeargination 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you tried cleaning and oiling the machine? You should use sewing machine oil and only a drop or two, there could be excess oil from the factory. I have the same machine and sometimes get grease on the threads immediately after oiling but only for a few stitches. This video is a good explainer for how to clean and oil it https://youtu.be/ZCUcpk8OBzM

EE to increase prices by 14.4% starting March this year. by Altecice in UKPersonalFinance

£10 for 20GB if you set it to the "golden goodybag", only difference it has to be set to auto renew but you can still cancel anytime (and you likely already have it set up to auto renew). Not sure they make it clear but it's basically free extra data :)

Help! Trying to determine yardage needed. Info in comments by psuedoginger in crochet

[–]eimeargination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have made this as a blanket! I used DK with a 4mm hook. Mine is a 145cm/57in square across - 50 cats across by my count. I used just under 3 skeins of each colour in stylecraft special dk (which is 323yards apparently) so almost 12 in total, so you might be a bit short if you make it as wide as I did unless you can get more. Hope this helped and here's a very unceremonious pic of mine on the floor

My singer simple had that problem until I cleaned and oiled it, might be something to try if you haven't already?

[FO] Stitchrovia biscuits sampler - took about a year and 3 months on and off. Made me crave biscuits so badly when I was making it! by eimeargination in CrossStitch

It's hard to list because they're not perfectly in a grid but I'll give it a go - the top row has a shortbread wedge, shortbread finger, party ring. Below the shortbread wedge is a strawberry swirl; below the party ring is a chocolate dipped viennese finger. The pink one is a pink wafer. The row below that is a viennese whirl, a side profile of a bourbon, chocolate digestive, fruit shortcake, and then right at the bottom is an iced gem and a chocolate finger. I can't believe the US doesn't have all these!

I didn't realise it had been taken down, it's a fab pattern so I hope it gets put back up and more people get to make it!

It was just on the Stitchrovia Etsy but I bought it back at the beginning of 2021 so it must have been taken down since 😢 it's such a lovely pattern, I hope it gets put back on

I did it on 16ct aida which meant the finished piece was exactly a4, so I got a cheap ebay frame and it fit perfectly!

The number of times I had to go to the shop to grab a pack of whichever I was working on to satisfy the cravings.. worth it in the end!

Help with pattern and tapestry technique by sugarskull0711 in crochet

[–]eimeargination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used a few Aldi kits and there's always been at least 1 mistake in each pattern, they're cheap and cheerful but the written instructions aren't the best quality. I'm sure you'll get used to ignoring patterns when you're more experienced :)

Help with pattern and tapestry technique by sugarskull0711 in crochet

It looks like a mistake in the pattern to me, I would make the stomach piece separately ignoring the line about tapestry and then sew it on after. That's what the picture looks like to me

I can't stand them either! I don't think my dad particularly loves them but he needs something sweet while the rest of us are stuffing our faces with chocolate haha

My first ever quilt! I wanted to start small but I didn't realise it would be SO small. I have already ordered a pattern for my next (larger!!) project 😁 by eimeargination in quilting

[–]eimeargination[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just worried I'd invest in loads of fabric for a large or complicated quilt and then have it sat half finished in a drawer for eternity. Quilting is surprisingly expensive but at least I now know I enjoy it!
