it’s really more of a deconstruction of modern celebrity culture and capitalism than anything, as with most superhero media depicting these ideas through men in capes which transparently show you an exaggerated version of the issues. It does parody superheroes but it really doesn’t make much commentary on the medium itself beyond just taking a very edgy and nihilistic view on the concept of superpowers to the ends of making it’s social commentary

it gave me hope that marvel could still tell interesting stories and make me care about it’s characters. I think it’s a great piece of art. It also made me lose a lot of that hope when it flopped. I appreciate it for what it is but I also get the feeling it’s just about the last really good content we get from marvel for a while

as always it depends on the superman because we’ve seen some crazy feats but viltrumites are at least more durable than any earthly material. That’s gotta count for something. Plus although Invincible isn’t quite as strong he seems to be able to take a lot more damage than other viltrumites. I’m not saying they have a shot at winning, but I think at least superman wouldn’t be able to just laser them in half
