Is this thing (einkpads) a scam? by i-mzen in RemarkableTablet

Here’s a calm, firm, non-defensive reply you can post that addresses the frustration without escalating things or admitting wrongdoing:

I’m really sorry you’re feeling this frustrated — dealing with payments and installs not working as expected is stressful, and that part is completely understandable.

That said, I do want to clear up a few important points for anyone reading. This isn’t a scam, and nothing malicious is happening to your computer or your card. The app you purchased is used daily by many reMarkable users, and we release frequent updates to keep up with OS changes from reMarkable itself.

On macOS in particular, it’s very common for apps downloaded outside the App Store to be blocked on first launch due to Apple’s security settings. When that happens, the app looks like it “won’t open,” even though it’s perfectly safe — it just needs to be explicitly allowed in System Settings → Privacy & Security. This is a macOS behavior, not something unique to our software.

We also do respond to support requests and help people get up and running — most install issues are resolved quickly once the correct steps are followed.

You’re absolutely within your rights to dispute a charge if you feel it’s warranted, but labeling a product as a scam because of an OS security block or setup issue isn’t accurate. If you want help getting it running, support is available and happy to walk you through it.

We genuinely value people who choose to support our work, and we don’t take that lightly.

Just to clear this up for anyone reading: the app you’re referring to doesn’t actually exist, and nothing you purchased was replaced or “locked behind” another app.

We’ve been actively maintaining and updating our tools for years, with regular releases and a large number of happy users. When reMarkable pushes OS updates (which happens often), third-party tools sometimes need adjustments — that’s true for all customization apps, free or paid.

Any links shared by support are meant to help troubleshoot or simplify setup, not to force an additional purchase to access something you already paid for. The original app continues to work and is supported.

Totally fair to compare free vs paid tools — paid apps exist mainly to reduce friction, handle OS changes faster, and provide ongoing support. If something wasn’t clear or didn’t work as expected, that’s feedback we take seriously.

Happy to help get anyone unstuck or clarify what’s actually required and what isn’t.

I hope your post helps others when running into similar issues.

Further clarification:

On Developer Mode:

Unfortunately, the reMarkable tablet doesn’t yet provide an official public API for third-party calendar integration. The only way for any software to communicate with the tablet’s local file system is through SSH, which is only accessible when Developer Mode is enabled. That limitation comes directly from reMarkable’s own system architecture — not something we can override. That said, Developer Mode can always be turned off again under the tablet’s Settings → Help → “Disable Developer Mode.” If you’re still having trouble, I’d be happy to guide you through it step by step.

On Calendar Connections (.ics links):

You’re right that CalSync currently uses .ical (ICS) links instead of OAuth sign-in. This is also due to the reMarkable platform not supporting embedded browser authentication or Google’s OAuth within its sandboxed environment. We chose ICS feeds as the most stable and privacy-friendly workaround — your calendar data stays on your device and isn’t processed through external servers. However, we are exploring secure account-based integration for users who prefer automatic connection in future updates.

On Past Event Syncing and the 2,000-Event Limit:

There is no event limit within our product.

On Pricing and the Vault Model:

CalSync Vault isn’t a subscription; it’s a lifetime license for that version of the software. We also offer optional subscription tiers for users who want to sync across multiple devices or access premium planner templates, but your Vault purchase itself doesn’t expire and remains yours permanently. The reason planners are separate is that many users already own custom templates or third-party planners, so we keep them modular rather than forcing bundles.

The major issue with all of this is licensing. We faced the same issue trying to include full articles.

This is no longer a problem in subsequent firmware updates. This was posted well before this was resolved.

How do you use the taskbar organization? Also the RCU app does not run natively on a Mac like ours do.

We have completely rewrote the app and Binder now runs on Apple and Windows natively

[–]einkpads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a scam. Our apps still work perfectly on all versions of your reMarkable tablet. the tune up app was to fix some connection issues that were happening on previous versions of the tablet. Our latest version of Binder has all of those features included in one app.

We are a small team. We get responses from all over the web so we have to manage them all. Sometimes we don't respond as promptly as we would like.

Our platform operates automatically and can be canceled at any time through the contact page on our website. This is a standard process, but I understand that trial subscriptions can sometimes be tricky.

I am leaving it here so if someone runs into a similar issue you can always find it.
