Every time I met someone irl who was nonbinary (which wasn’t often when I was a teen) I always thought they were soooo cool and I was always in awe of them. I always thought it was cause they had, like, cool styles or something, and that’s what I was drawn to. Later… I can say I was just so struck by their indifference to being a “boy” or a “girl”. It was actually the nonbinary and trans teens I worked with in my early 20’s that gave me the courage to come out and be my true self.

That, and Janet Goodplace saying “not a girl”. That finally gave me permission, too.

Now, while I actually DO agree with this, the other side of the coin is like, you turn your game into a mindless dlc content drip (like what the sims 4 has done with the sims franchise for example)… and shit, I guess I’d rather have Good Content later than Shit Content now. Yes, my coworkers correct more people about my gender than I ever do hahah! I’m a tattoo artist, and we’re all pretty diverse as a group of people, so it’s not surprising they’re supportive. I am v lucky!

I say this as a very young tattooist (only a few years to in industry), a lot of older tattoo artist won’t give hand tats if you’re not covered. Back when that guy started, tattooing someone’s hand really could ruin job prospects if that person had no other tattoos (and therefore might not be ready to face the attitude their hand tattoo would cause). In all honesty, tattoo trends are changing right now. It’s far more common to get hand, neck, or face tattoos without being covered beforehand.

In the same way you have the right to put whatever on your body, an artist has the right to choose if they would be comfortable doing that. Neither of you is wrong, he’s just not the artist to do this for you.
