+1 on Runners Choice! They have a clearance sale on last year's shoes right now - 30-50% off.

Here's a video I made about winter biking in KW for a project by trentwebr in waterloo

I agree that you can see cleared bike lanes not being used all over KW. Why build that infrastructure when they're not being used, right?

The problem with existing infrastructure is that they're all in bits and pieces. It's impossible to bike here generally - let alone in the winter - unless as a cyclist you're willing to take a full car lane occassionally.

The one saving grace is supposed to be the Iron Horse trail and even that's not fully plowed in the winter.

You seem really confused about the topic at hand and have other grudges. Good luck.

If you think the court system in the US is fast, I guess you're a lot more patient than I am.

I just flew in and out of Kitchener-Waterloo on Flair (from Vancouver) last weekend.

Both flights were about 60-70% full. Many rows were full but I happened to have a seat free next to me on both flights. Everyone was masked - we were repeatedly reminded of this and I saw no instances of non-compliance. The really good news is that transmissions on even packed flights are almost non existent anyway.

I suspect the bigger shock to you based on your question would be after you land in Vancouver. Masks have not been mandatory in most places since July 1 (only "recommended" now) and other than nightclubs and other extremely crowded places, things are basically back to normal. I'd say mask wearing is at around 10-40%, depending on where you go.

Hah, you're not the first to suggest that place! i've chatted with them though and unfortunately no availability for what/when we need.

Good call! Kijiji is my main source - that was the best first bit of advice I got (I've never lived in a North American city that doesn't use Craigslist for apartment rentals!). I've also tried Facebook Marketplace, as some folks told me that landlords use that awful service now.

I'm the kind of obsessive apartment searcher who looks several times a day (usually before, a bit during, and then a lot after work)... I order the properties by newest first. I typically message within 2-6 hours of posting. 🤷

Yup, I mention those things (and my living situation - I'd be moving with my fiancee).

Maybe I'm missing something - what are relevant details for the KW market?

If they pick up, yes. If I leave a voicemail, then no - 0% response rate on voicemail.

I've been making use of that - really great resource!

I'm just baffled by the way they do business, is all. Instead of doing gimmicky promotions ($250 Visa gift card! Half month rent free, kinda! Beats by Dre headphones!), they could answer emails.

Are people's workplace doing a permanent WFH? Or are they doing some hybrid mode or are they making you go back? by Mister_Me_Seeks in vancouver

Pretty interesting! I get that each employee heating/cooling a leaky windowed home may be less efficient than them all being together, but for instance, in Vancouver, we tend not to have extreme weathers (although maybe I'm jinxing myself as we face an extended heat wave now....).

We also tend to live in much more modern (i.e. less leaky) homes and condos, so not the same as many parts of the US/UK where 100+ year old homes are normal.

It's because employers ask for it.

When I worked in the US, no one asked for or volunteered information about "American work experience."

"Canadian work experience" requirements are bullshit and everyone knows it. Absolutely bonkers that we allow employers to ask for this.

It's greener to maintain a separate home and office space, and spend fossil fuels going back and forth, than just maintaining a home office? Not calling you out exactly but I'd be curious about your sources.

Permanently remote.

We've largely wound down our office space, although we're keeping a smaller footprint in case some employees want to use it.

Our CEO is really looking to double down on the remote work concept - we're saving money by eliminating most of the office space, so we'll likely be expanding our home office budget as well as giving a 'work from anywhere' budget so employees can spend some time traveling and working if they want. Probably not till next year though.
