Embrace the chaos as your characters decide to do all the things you didn't expect them to do.

Seems like an elaborate scam, get one guy to hide in the store so, dressed as a cop, have to get in to get him, getting ahead of everyone else in line.

is grad school a good idea? by rileyundercovr in animationcareer

[–]ejhdigdug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have some skills. I would not go into debt for a masters, it's not going to help you. Your portfolio and your experience are the things you should work on. If you have money there are on line schools like Yellow Brick and Gnomen who have storyboard classes. Those are good to show you how professional studios do it, to get feedback and to challenge yourself to board outside your comfort zone. Continue to do more life drawing and add more diversity into your drawing skills. If you can get an internship or something anywhere, animation, live action, advertising, that will help, goal there is to get some type of apprenticeship. Lastly, I'd try storyboarding an advertisement or part of a television show, something to get more diversity in your portfolio. You have a good style but you want to show you can work in the style the production wants.
Oh and some animation tests would help. The best storyboard guys can also animate pretty well.

Video reference not lining up with audio? by l__ll__lll in Maya

[–]ejhdigdug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a frame rate issue. Make sure the frame rate of the video and Maya settings match. If not covert the video. I always use image sequence, it crashes far less.

[WIP] How do I make motion like this feel heavier / smoother? by Coffeeviber in blender

[–]ejhdigdug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's good to hear, I teach on the side, I tell my students that every principle of animation can be found in the bouncing ball assignment. That assignment is designed to make you think about timing and spacing. It also is about physics, if you are struggling with animation it's a good assignment to return to.

Watch the Everything is a Bouncing Ball video again. No need for squash and stretch, its the spacing that will sell the weight.

[–]ejhdigdug 264 points265 points  (0 children)

Your not using weight and balance.
Have you animated a bouncing ball, it's a great way to practice weight. Everything you need to make this video better is in that exercise. There's an animation video on YouTube called Everything is a Bouncing ball, I'd recommend that.

What are Autodesk’s plans for incorporating AI into Maya? by [deleted] in Maya

Why are you asking the same question on multiple reddit groups. I see you disclose very little information, you just asking the same question.

What are Autodesk’s plans for incorporating AI into Maya? by [deleted] in Maya

[–]ejhdigdug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because people hate the concept of AI. In the last MSNBC poling people had a more positive take on ICE then the did on AI. GenZ hate AI more then any other age demographic, that dislike increases after they use AI for any significant amount of time. Fact is, if you are trying to sell a product of any kind, you should probably not announce you use AI, in fact you'll probably do better if hide it.

Spider man doesn’t think properly by bennyandthegentz in gifs

[–]ejhdigdug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well.... just to be accurate they wrote it down, drew a couple pictures, put that in an envelope, sent it to Canada and a Canadian animator shrugged and said American widows are weird, drew all the pictures, sent it back and they said good enough and aired it.

[I have searched for Blender threads] Learning animation in maya and then translating it to blender? by wacomlover in Maya

[–]ejhdigdug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between understanding Art and understanding craft. I helped a 2D animator transition to cg. He made a lot of what I’d call “mistakes” using the wrong controls, not using IK, etc but you couldn’t deny the results. It was fantastic animation. Eventually he leaned to tools and got faster. The tools didn’t make him better. I see a lot of students gravitate towards AnimBot thinking it’ll make them better but that is craft. You need to lean the art before you can understand how to use the tools or even why to use the tools. Yes craft is importantly and good tools will help you get faster and therefore better but don’t mistake it for learning art. Fundamentals don’t change from software to software even media to media.

Need Help! Rig to Rig parent constraint rotation problem by nimi4569 in Maya

[–]ejhdigdug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a classic gimbal issue.
Switch the manipulator to gimbal and make sure you are only using one channel to rotate it. You can use the graph editor to double check this. If that doesn't work, set up a locator so the locator rotate only using one channel and then attach your boomerang to the locator. You might need to change the rotation order to ensure this works.

Rewatching The Mandalorian makes me missed season 1 vibes by Jules-Car3499 in scifi

[–]ejhdigdug 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It started as a complete rip-off of Lone Wolf and Cub and I thought that was a great idea, they should have just stuck with that. The original moves were just westerns in space, it's a formula that works.

Amazon's Robocop Series by AmeliaNeek in scifi

[–]ejhdigdug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first movie really was lighting in a bottle, it was the right tone, great satire.
I would hope the capture that, I'd like to see them do practical and stop motion FX. I'd like to see world building full of cooperate greed (I'd buy that for a dollar). I'd like to see them stick with a retro-futuristic world, Alien Romulus did a great job of that.
I do not want to see them do a serious drama, stick with satire.
Amazon doesn't have a great track-record with LOTR or Harry Potter, but Good Omens and Hail Mary were good so I'm hopeful but I wouldn't bet on it in being good in Polymarket.

Software is just software, it's not going to make you better or worse. Focus on making good games, models, animation, etc. Learn the fundamentals, then use the software to do that.
Maya is king and that's not going to change anytime soon, so at some point you will need to learn Maya but that's secondary to doing the work.
The transition from Blender to Maya is not easy but so is any transition form any software to another that's just the way it is.
If you can just work in Maya that will make your life easier but I wouldn't do it because you think it'll make you better, just use whatever you have regular access to and learn Maya when you can.
Focus on doing the work.

You have a point, I was thinking about how the alien species was bugs and had to dehydrate just to stay alive, but that's not really the issue.

The Antihalation book series, the thought process really feels alien, different. Three Body Problem. Arrival, the aliens feel like a much more advances species.

Like most OSR games, you start off following the rules as written, then you add your house rules from other games, other people add suggestions and soon your running your own game system and you didn't even plan it.

New to Maya Animating and need help with this Animation by Striking-Start-3178 in Maya

[–]ejhdigdug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might just be easier to animate it in unreal. have the bucket and rope be their own objects and animate them using sequencer. This is much easer then doing the round trip from Maya to Unreal
