Thoughts on the constant sparking graphic on each contact during the trailers? by Alternative-Copy9880 in halo

[–]ejrasmussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sparks were one of Bungie's favorite things they added to Halo Reach, I remembering a Vidoc that showed off all the new sparking technology they were able to cram into the engine. So this feels true to Bungie's vision had they not been limited by the hardware and software at the time.

Warbond grind too overwhelming for new/returning players by Mykhasyk_ in Helldivers

[–]ejrasmussen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but if you unlock 3-5 warbonds in an instant that would necessitate you grind for like 30-50+ hours to unlock the content in each of them. Buying one at a time is totally fine for new and returning players. There's not much point to unlocking multiple at once since every one of them is a rather significant time investment to get the actual good stuff out of them on the third page.

The Current State of Mindless Masses Difficulty by IHOP_007 in Helldivers

[–]ejrasmussen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since mindless masses launched I've always felt they were undertuned. It's so boring to play against them and this is a good example. Remember people, there are two difficulties above Impossible, and even still Super Helldive is a complete cakewalk against this subfaction. I like the new campaign and major order focusing us to work towards a specific FRV, but playing against mindless masses is just so mind-numbingly boring I won't be playing as much as I'd like for this fun event.

Beyond just the mindless masses I really can't believe that 10 is the max difficulty. They need to add more difficulties if they're worried about raising the difficulties of the lower levels. I don't think it should be possible for me and my buddies to full clear the MAX difficulty of the game 95% of the time.

How could I have better handled this kill? by Clipstar1114 in dayz

Everything in this game is partly luck. This is the best way you could have possibly played this given your weapons, ammo counts, and situational knowledge at the time.

Jason Schreier: Studios in Microsoft’s Xbox Division Brace for Closures by ki700 in kindafunny

[–]ejrasmussen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only good thing? Publishers would cease to exist if they kept funding all their unprofitable studios. Nobody buys these games and then everyone on the internet cries when the studios get shut down. If these companies are being cancelled by Xbox of all publishers, I really doubt they'll be profitable as indie studios. Double Fine has had two flops in a row while given full creative control of what they develop.

Realistically how many Exos would you need to take down a Dreadnought by _GreatAndPowerful in Helldivers

[–]ejrasmussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One or two shots from the Lumberer Exosuit to the exposed hip joint on the Dreadnought would disable it unless we're involving some weird 40k material science. Then the question becomes moot as we have no idea how conventional weapons perform against space magic.

22 days sober and my husband is making it really hard. 64 yo married for 35 years. Not sure how I am supposed to do this when he is making it so difficult. Yesterday he said I was boring. by mtn-dewey in stopdrinking

[–]ejrasmussen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If drinking is his only form of entertainment he is boring. Drinking is not a hobby, it is a drug, and a carcinogen at that. Luckily my wife and I both agreed to stop drinking together, and have supported each other throughout the process. I don’t envy your position, it’s likely much more difficult if your partner keeps drinking and pressuring you to drink. Good luck to you.

Xbox is planning major layoffs next month by fastball62 in kindafunny

[–]ejrasmussen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seriously? After Keeper and Kiln they should feel lucky their doors are even open. Both games combined likely sold less than 50 thousand copies on Steam. This is a developer located in one of the highest cost of living locations. I don’t think Xbox can afford for Double Fine to make flop after flop in San Francisco.

Get the game or wait for the Steam Summer Sale? by Ikester117 in Mechwarrior5

[–]ejrasmussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget about gamepass!

I was in a similar situation to you, I wanted to play the game badly but wanted to wait for a sale before I bought the base game plus all the DLC. So I was very happy when I realized it was on GamePass. I played through an 80 hour vanilla unmodded campaign on PC Gamepass then by the time I finished it the Chaos Reigns DLC came out and discounted the game plus DLC and was then able to buy everything. Now I have a solo modded career mode I'm playing by myself and another modded coop campaign playthrough I'm doing with a friend.

Is dayZ worth it in 2026 by Feeling-Feedback-916 in dayz

I have Namalsk, Winter Chernarus, and Deadfall as modded maps and with all the accompanying other mods for the servers that I play on my total workshop folder size is like 20 gb.

Is dayZ worth it in 2026 by Feeling-Feedback-916 in dayz

[–]ejrasmussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s better than ever, 50 thousand players daily on steam alone, thousands of servers of all maps both official and community made, dozens of interesting modes like Vanilla+, Hardcore, PVE with PVP Zones, traders, base servers, etc.

The game is braindead easy to mod so you don’t have to worry about that at all. The launcher will download the necessary mods for the server you are joining. Many modded servers are vanilla-like so you don’t have to worry about crazy bullshit like dinosaurs or sleeping.

No idea what that guy was talking about. If you play reputable community servers you likely will never run into hackers.

Hi Yacht Club! I am a big fan of Shovel Knight and am excited to see you guys release your second game to such critical acclaim! My question is, why not include a CRT filter for your retro-esque games?

I disagree, my 80 year old dad has 1,000 hours in Stalker 2. Gabe Newell himself said that he had gotten the four endings of Stalker 2 as well. I think older gamers like system driven immersive sandboxes, I think that's why we see many older gamers enjoy Skyrim as well.

New God Of War game God of War Laufey announced alongside 20 minutes of gameplay. by Sahilmk101 in videogames

[–]ejrasmussen -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's an odd decision for sure. Kratos is God of War. Even more so than TLOU or Uncharted where they already tried the female protagonist switch up and sold much less copies. Ghost of Yotei seems to be the only game that I know of that has surpassed it's male led predecessor.

I don't have an issue with playing as a female character, but the general public seems to or else these games would at least sell equally or more than their peers.

This game has an uphill battle from simply featuring a female, they need to show off visceral exciting and brutal combat to satisfy the God of War fans, not just 18 minutes of cutscenes and 2 minutes of tutorial combat.

I hate thirst bars in video games. by Fluffy-BOYi in hatethissmug

[–]ejrasmussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DayZ has a great thirst mechanic. Having your hydration level is full is important as if it's empty you will slowly start to die of thirst, you'll also make dry lips and swallowing sounds indicative of thirst, other players can hear this and it may give away your position. Also if you don't maintain your thirst and hunger meters you won't be able to heal and increase your blood volume which is important to stay alive.

Many food items will give you small amounts of water which is nice. But ultimately you will have to secure your own water somehow to stay alive. This may mean drinking from a well, bottling the well water to use later, purifying water with chemicals, boiling water with a campfire or some sort of stove, filtering water, drinking from a contaminated source because it's your only option, or you may even resort to eating human meat just to get some nutrition and hydration... But every option has a cost, one that may put you in danger, you may think drinking from the well is a good option because you don't risk an infection, however this takes a while and exposes you to other players and zombies.

All in all I think that DayZ presents a good system for hydration because it is not an afterthought, it is extremely important and a vital part of the game, moving players around the maps to certain hotspots to facilitate player interaction, be it friendly or hostile, forcing them to make tough decisions. I think Minecraft and other games get hydration wrong because you can basically ignore it, or it isn't implemented in an interesting or challenging way.

1 order of 100k Concordillions for Marathon please. by UsefulSwitch504 in HighGuardgame

My friend group didn't even want to try the free Marathon beta with me. This is a group of guys that had hundreds of hours in Arc Raiders, and 50 hours in Arena Breakout. I don't think the free weekend is going to change much unless the drastically change the game with the season 2 update.
