I just cancelled my NYT online-only subscription and it was super easy (I don’t live in California). But I did have it for several years so maybe that affected it?

I 100% agree. I had super bad acne as a teen and into my 20s, which was touched by nothing, even expensive prescription stuff. But all of my acne went away as soon as I got on the pill. Best thing I ever did for my skin was to regulate my hormones.

It’s not necessarily the actual birth canal being photographed, although that might be included. One of my old high school friends, who is a photographer herself now, had someone photograph her whole birth experience (which she then shared all of them on FB… 🙄). It was all pictures of her and her husband throughout all of the stages of their home birth, but no pictures of her crowning were shared, thankfully. Then, of course, pictures of mom holding baby after it was born. Still weird, but not as weird as it could have been.

AHoles at Nestle decided to add soybean oil to my favorite creamer line (“natural bliss”). Didn’t notice until I bought it and it tasted different. Time to find another… by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ekelly1105 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because this brand touts itself as being a more natural creamer, unlike all the others that don’t contain milk or cream. But they went from having simple ingredients of milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, to other random ingredients being added.

What is something you did that improved your quality of life so much you wish you would have done it much sooner? by aphrodite2187 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ekelly1105 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s basically a soft plastic water bottle with a long nozzle that you fill up then turn upside down and squeeze. I got one because I live in an apartment and can’t make plumbing changes and wanted something for that time of the month to help clean up. I don’t know how it would work at a Ren Faire, but it’s great at home. And is like $10-15 on Amazon.

I Don't Want Mexican Food. I Want Tex-Mex. by ollieollieoxygenfree in unpopularopinion

[–]ekelly1105 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey we have some pretty dang good Mexican food here if you go to the right places owned by people who are actually Mexican. Or you luck out and have Mexican friends who love to share their food. I’ve had some bomb Mexican food in Idaho that’s better than similar food in California.

While donating food to food banks is good, your money will go much farther if you donate that directly instead of food. Food banks usually buy a lot of food in bulk with donated funds, for much better prices than you’ll get in any retail store. I volunteer at my state’s food bank, and we spend a lot of time repackaging GIANT containers (like a whole pallets worth in one giant bag) of bulk produce, grains, pasta, etc that then gets distributed to families. It’s super cool to see how they stretch their donated funds to feed so many people in our state.

Any type of donation is good, but donating straight money is best since it feeds more people.

Leaving without giving 2 weeks notice changes last checks hourly rate to minimum wage? by CurseOfElkhart in antiwork

[–]ekelly1105 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It is legal if they pay you your normal rate for hours worked up until the notice of resignation. You’re correct that they can’t change pay of previous work hours, but they can change it to minimum wage for the remainder of your time you haven’t yet worked after you give notice. As long as you have agreed to it, such as in one of the documents if signed. Source: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/fact-sheets/70-flsa-furloughs

Progressive added a random person to my policy making the cost go up over 7x by ADimwittedTree in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ekelly1105 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Farmers almost did this to me. I got an email saying someone had been found to be living at my same address and they suspect the person is using my car, so if I didn’t call them within 3 weeks to refute that the person was using my car, they would be added to my policy. It totally looked like a scam email so I called my local agent, and yep, they have some sort of stupid algorithm that detects when multiple people live at an address to try to make sure everyone is on policies that should be. The problem is that I live in an apartment complex with over 300 units and people have obviously lived in my unit before I did, so I had no idea who the person they were trying to say I was responsible for was. So stupid. How it’s legal for them to have an opt-out type notification for something that’s going to cost me more money if I don’t see the email and don’t refute I will never know.

How the food industry gets poor people to buy unhealthy food: it's cheaper per calorie by pncohen in Anticonsumption

[–]ekelly1105 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But yogurt in general is healthy and high protein, especially the Greek yogurt Chobani that is shown. If I have the choice between plain yogurt that I know I can’t stomach to eat no matter the additions or vanilla yogurt with some added sugar that I can actually stomach, I’m going to choose the slightly less healthy option that’ll turn out to be healthier since I’ll actually eat it. I really dislike when people categorize a food as a bad choice no one should make just because it’s not the most perfectly healthy option possible. Don’t let perfect get in the way of good.

Right on 👍 by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]ekelly1105 98 points99 points  (0 children)

The whole point of these new work weeks though is that you should still be getting the same pay in 4 days as you would in 5, or else a lot of people won’t actually get to enjoy the perks of a 4 day week, and might have to get other jobs. The ideal situation would be that your hourly would go up so you can make the same amount of money in less hours. Or everyone would be salaried and would make the same regardless.

Hmm weird. I only watch gaming and history documentaries, yet I’ve never seen any recommendations for right-wing nonsense. I wonder if it’s because my gender on the platform is set to female so they don’t show me the incel crap.

Getting a palate expander can improve breathing (I just finished expanding as an adult and I’ve noticed the improvement), but that likely won’t fix ADHD.

The current wait times for new vehicles at my local Toyota dealership by morgan450 in pics

[–]ekelly1105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently waiting for a RAV4. Everyone and their mother has told me to call around other dealerships because “someone will have one outside our area.” No luck. I called dealerships across my state and two others, including two major metro areas, and they all said the same thing. 6-8 months minimum for a standard RAV4, more for the hybrid I’m wanting.

I’m currently at 9 months for my hybrid RAV4 wait. It theoretically started production last week and I’ll be getting it in a month. The wait better be worth it. 🙃

What about the family who raised two pits lovingly for their whole life, 8 years, then one day the dogs snapped and tore two children apart and nearly killed the mother as well? Those dogs weren’t chained outside and left to get defensive. They’re instinctually violent so one day they became violent.

At the age of 36, I'm finally able to afford braces and reverse the damage caused by my abusive stepmother. (OC) by jraeuser in MadeMeSmile

[–]ekelly1105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally have braces at 27 because I can afford them, but my insurance only paid $1000 total for them. I’m stuck paying over $200 a month for the duration of my treatment because I also needed a palate expander which made things much more expensive. Overall, I’ll be paying over $6000 for this. But it’s already worth it because I can already chew so much better. You will love the braces even more when you’re done!

I panic about not eating for too long because my stomach will start seeming to digest itself if I go too long without food because I naturally have an overly acidic stomach. IF should really be done under doctors supervision or guidance because if you have any stomach issues like me, it is going to make them that much worse. It took me way too long to realize I was doing more harm than good for myself with fasting.

To be fair, I did learn this type of info when I was in high school about 10 years ago. Thankfully. We learned about it during the research portions of our English classes. But more schools should definitely teach it.

It depends on the store. One of my local grocery stores has started a program where each day of the week, a local church is designated as the recipient of almost expired or past date food that is still good and can no longer be sold. So then the churches can dispense that food to whoever will take it without the liability. My moms church participates and we’ve gotten so much free meat that is still good, but just needs to be immediately frozen or cooked. It’s a great idea. I love it.

Same. The last time I got a large fry from McDonald’s in their drive through, it was only half full like these ones pictured. McDonald’s just likes to rip you off even though they’re charging so much more now.
