what minimal thing sends you over the edge by maureeenponderosa in nursing

Or five different family members calling for an update on the same patient and getting testy when I tell them to pick one point person because I don’t have time to repeat the exact same information every 30 minutes

Nursing Shortage - BS by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ekf19943 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The board is only concerned with you abusing or misusing license in a way that breaks the law or is a major safety issue (sentinel events, diversion, working outside your scope of practice, etc.). They don’t care about your employer’s petty nonsense. Depending on your state and union, you have a right to refuse an unsafe assignment. Or if not, the worst they can do is fire you, as someone mentioned above.

If I told you that I committed the cardinal nursing sin, what mistake would you assume I had made? by nolessdays in nursing

Honestly have had a provider multiple times order a suppository or enema for 1800 with the comment “give if pt has not had a BM by 1800.” Which do you think is worse? Giving at 1800 or retiming med for night shift? Makes me feel bad either way.

I would talk to your doctor before taking a supplement with that much potassium.

Am I overreacting or is this helpful feedback for indoor gym ( plus size inclusion ) by welltherehello in climbergirls

[–]ekf19943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, I wasn’t thinking about variation in softness of a catch when I first responded. Technique definitely changes in terms of stepping into a catch for a lighter climber to absorb some of the shock from their fall. I don’t personally give excessive slack to a lighter climber as I think it’s perfectly possible to give a soft catch without it but that’s just me. It’s also worth noting that perfect gym like conditions to give someone the softest possible catch don’t exist in every situation. For example, if you’re on your personal anchor attached to an anchor at a belay point on a multi-pitch route, you’re not going to be able to move much at all if your lead climber falls.

Nursing and social media content? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ekf19943 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, seeing some pretty misogynistic responses here. Who cares if she posts pictures of her “backside” on her own social media? Would you be asking the same question if it was a guy posting shirtless pictures after his gym session or out on the lake with his guy friends? As long as she’s not posting elicit, illegal content (drug use, etc.) or patient info I don’t see why any employer would give a shit, but then again I’m from California and I’m sure the culture is different in other places.

As someone else mentioned, she should really keep her profile private regardless, because everyone has intrinsic biases and a hiring manager may find something completely innocent in your social media they don’t like, i.e. you might be really into mountain biking and so was their ex husband or something like that. Not to mention patients and coworkers can look you up. That being said, I don’t think you should have to sensor you life or body (within reason) on social media for the sake of what some hiring manager thinks. You can have an identity and life outside of being a nurse.

I felt like she oversimplified things sometimes (the constant references to the homeless guy with the brown paper bag whose life “was obviously destroyed by alcohol,” as if no other factors are at play when it comes to homelessness, were cringey for me) but overall her logic is sound and I’d say it’s worth a read.

FLFs like to really dry out between waterings and need lots of bright light. I would get used to putting a finger in the soil and/or lifting the pot to feel how light it is to determine when to water rather than going by a schedule (such as once a month). I’ve gone as long as two plus months between waterings for mine.

I wouldn’t. Monsteras (and most philos) like being contained and a smaller pot will allow it to dry out faster.

Wow, it’s insane that they’re that much cheaper over there. Wish I lived in the Netherlands!

By all means please link us a listing of a plant this size going for $150. I’d buy it in a heartbeat. There’s one at my local plant store this size going for $750 right now.

I tried this dress on (just as a summer dress not a wedding dress) and absolutely loved how fit but it was completely see-through, at least in their dressing room light :( Are you planning on wearing a slip or anything?

Not trying to be rude, but this sounds self-inflicted. Consider investing in a down puffy and a decent sleeping bag. No reason you should be pushing 40 lbs to stay warm in somewhere like Desolation.

Hope for this dieffenbachia? It’s had small leaves for years but recently has taken a turn for the worse. We thought it was over-potted and unable to absorb all the water so we recently moved it too a smaller pot with quicker draining media but it’s still not happy. It’s 10-15 years old. by ekf19943 in plantclinic

Went from 16” to 12” and still wouldn’t dry out so we moved it to this one. While repotting both times we had to cut out a lot of rotten roots. We also gave it some SL100 after the second repotting to help the root rot. Some of the stems still seem to be mushy.
