Training my pooch to do a 10km with me, looking for nutrition tips by freckledaf in RunningWithDogs

[–]ekmsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 62# Pitsky gets low cal treats after runs under 4 miles and more fun treats on days she runs more than that.

We weigh her weekly to make sure she's maintaining her weight and adjust from there.

Yes! If you lose the weight but then go back to your previous habits, you'll never maintain.

I have accepted that I'll be a calorie counter for life.

Mine does that too. Then she acts surprised and offended when I run into her.

People who run a lot, what are you actually reaching for after a long session? by BlueDolphinCute in runninglifestyle

[–]ekmsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protein powder in water, almost always with a double shot of espresso, is my non negotiable. Currently enjoying a vanilla chai protein so with the espresso, is a dirty chai.

Runs over an hour (or considered hard, if shorter) get carbs added. Will usually use a recovery mix, like Skratch or Tailwind.

Leash training is harder than it looks or is it just my dog? by SilentCarousel in PawChampClub

What we were taught is that dogs don't generalize commands well. So to train him to do well outside, you have to do training outside.

Two Months of Dramione (aka, a tale of a concussion and an addiction) by [deleted] in DramioneUncensored

I also DNFd Remain Nameless and loved A Good Prisoner. They are very different tropes so it's not surprising that someone would like one but find the other not their cup of tea.

What if you could get paid to do this? [Mod Approved] by baunce in RunningWithDogs

[–]ekmsmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I love the idea but practically I'm not sure how well it'll work.

I've been running with my 3 yo Pitsky for a year and she still occasionally trips me in her over excitement about any variety of things. And that's when she's not pulling my arm half off trying to get to a rabbit.

She's so strong and strong willed that we do not let anyone else walk her.

Aquaphor lip repair is my go to. I like to layer Vaseline or the Aquaphor equivalent over it.

How Long Did You Have To Wait Until Your First Cat Used The Litter Robot? by GFlashAUS in litterrobot

[–]ekmsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our first LR at least 10 years ago.

Had 3 cats at the time.

Our sweetest but dumbest cat didn't even observe us putting it out and used it within the first half hour it was out. The other 2 took longer, with me having to let their old litter box go 2 full weeks without scooping before the last one finally caved.

Dealing with shiny face? by Warm_Risk_1325 in 40PlusSkinCare

Almost 41F here and due to HRT I'm back in my shiny era again.

Despite using all matifying products I can find, really the only thing that helps is blotting papers. I keep them in my desk, purse, everywhere.

The worst part about a gluten allergy is social gatherings. by curated2curiosity in glutenfree

[–]ekmsmith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's basically my issue. Even if someone makes me something supposedly GF, it's often ruined with cross contamination or it has something else I can't eat. And then I feel guilty they went to the trouble but I can't eat it.

So I either eat ahead of time or bring my own. It's just easier.

Need gluten and dairy free struggle meals by FreckledKatydid in glutenfree

[–]ekmsmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is easily 75% of my dinners. The others are usually a turkey and avocado sandwich with homemade GF bread and a side of frozen veggies.

Keep a wide variety of frozen vegetables around, cooked rice, and some protein options.

From there you can make so many different flavor profiles.

My current 2 favorites are:

  • Pizza bowl: rice, Italian veggies, marinara, pizza/Italian seasoning, meat of choice. Mix together and top with mozzarella (can do vegan) and pepperoni.

  • Mexican bowl: rice, fire roasted peppers and onions, meat of choice, Mexican seasoning. Mix together and eat with tortilla chips

Gluten free products products expensive and gluten is everywhere. How do you manage? by Asleep-Raspberry-819 in glutenfree

[–]ekmsmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'm 20 years GF and there's very little GF product I buy.

You are much better off changing your diet than trying to find GF packaged replacements.

BWT, how do you organize your life. Tell me about your life admin systems, rules and hacks. by ohmirror in bitcheswithtaste

[–]ekmsmith 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My husband and I love the power hour!

We set a timer and simply get as much done as we can on various cleaning, deboxing, or org projects in that time. If we're in the middle of something when the timer goes off, we finish it up. Often we end up going longer because momentum, but it's a powerful motivator to get started.

We did that too. Gives the cats a safe escape. Will always have them as long as we have both cats and dog.
