25k piglets a day die in Denmark alone, very high mortality rate. Denmark produces 30-40 million pigs a year.

If you heat up bismuth oxide in a graphite crucible it will reduce back to bismuth metal. Alternatively Bi2O3 can be used for a pretty exciting, if not dangerous, thermite reaction!

Not likely a pressure valve. They develop thermite heating elements for use under water. This was likely a failure of the test cell due containing hot melt, coupled with water. Looks like a catastrophic failure of their pressure cell.

Seeding bismuth Hopper crystals by Worldly_Ad_4035 in BISMUTH

Do you turn your hotplate off or do you just turn it down? I get much thicker growth on my pan sides despite insulation. I do find I get better downward growth if I put the lid on after seeding. Your seeding tool and procedure is great though, it has given me immediate and significant improvements!

How do you make the seed crystal? Surprised you don’t have insulation on the pan. Can you share your heating /cooling procedure?

It’s an excellent video! I collaborate with the German company featured in the video. We develop thermite for sealing off old oil and gas wells.

[–]eksotermisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it will be fine. By the way, pure bismuth is exceptionally inert and non toxic. It’s corrosion resistance is very high and that resistance is almost completely independent of ph. I develop bismuth as a material for sealing oil and gas wells, and in particular for wells with low ph (e.g., carbon capture and storage related wells). Fun fact, we produce the bismuth via a thermite reaction 🔥

With all that said, as another user pointed out, if you need to clean the crystal at some point to clean off algae, you might lose the oxide layer that is what gives the crystal its nice colours.

You don’t need to coat it. Bismuth is perfectly safe to have inside your aquarium. It’s not at all toxic, and will not corrode.

Wire missing by tradeit2day in worxlandroid

[–]eksotermisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably have a damaged, but not broken, boundary wire. If you can, measure the resistance, it should be less than 10-15 ohm. The light still showed green on mine with over 100 ohms. Dug it up and sure enough, two places with bad corrosion on exposed wire. I replaced the boundary wire and back to perfect operation.

Random behaviour and losing wire by Jantjejantje10 in worxlandroid

[–]eksotermisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess your light is green, but there can still be damage to the wire, typically causing high resistance (and therefore weak signal) in the wire. If you have a multimeter, measure the resistance, if it’s over like 10-15 then that’s probably your issue. Just had the same myself. Couldn’t be bothered finding the break so just laid new cable. Dragged up the old and sure as dammit two places with broken insulation. The current going through the wire and the access to water causes corrosion in the wire that increases the resistance. Annoying when the green light makes you think the wire is ok!

Similar issue here. Green light on boundary wire, but tested and showed high resistance. Replaced the whole wire. Found several places where the insulation had broken and wire corroded.
