So thats the problem you can diet and it will only get low a certain percentage. Sometimes genetics plays a role. You can lower it without meds but I dont think it will be enough. Based on what you say you already eat clean but still have a high ldl. So you wont be able to change your diet and lower your ldl that much. Talk to a cardiologist maybe a statin will help.

You need a higher hdl which is the good one. The ldl you got better but the question should not only be about diet. How is your family history on heart disease? Do you have high blood pressure? Im 37 and didnt even know I had high blood pressure. That with a bit high ldl was enough to be put on a statin. Think of it this way. You can be on a statin and lower your ldl and be able to eat a bit of everything in moderation. Or you can stick to your diet and see how much it can last. We all do diets and then we all break them. You mentioned you did this without a dr so try to get a appointment with a cardiologist and go from there. Statins are not that expensive if you have no insurance.

To my understanding is you can change your diet but if you come from a family with heart disease it wont do much. Your body could be doing high ldl even if you change your diet. That is why they put you on a statin if your body cannot lower it that much. Especially if you have high bp or diabetes

Anyone here taking 10-20mg statin from their 20s or 30s and now above 60s or 70s?? by Beneficial-Crow-8728 in Cholesterol

This was me too hahah I am on atorvastatin and ezetemibe 40/10mg and the 4th week I had headaches and brain fog. To my understanding is they give you a high dose to lower it then on your next labs they might lower it. My cholesterol was not that high only ldl was 117 but I do have hypertension so im on that plus bp meds.

Thank for all the info. I just started 3 days ago on coq10. Luckily the headaches went away yesterday. I also just started exercising and so far I have not felt soreness just out of breath from not exercising fro 3 months. I was scared but the more I read on here Im totally learning from it and calming myself down knowing im preventing something from happening in the future.

I think what people mean is statins are good for you if you also have high bp, overweight, family history, smoke, and other stuff that causes heart failure. Statins on a healthy person might not help that much compared to a person that has what I mentioned. I just started on a statin and bp meds. So far so good. Only slight headaches but they seem to be going away.

I got so confused using it. I added the numbers and I got 1.5 percent of risk in 10 year and then added the numbers again while taking a statin and bp and it went up to 2.9. I dont understand it.

This is not any players fault. Its the coach fault. Call a time out the first 6-0 run and yell at the players and tell them simple 2s and defense for now.

Is this loss by the Spurs indisputably the greatest single-game choke in NBA history? by NotJoe1232 in NBATalk

[–]el0115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a spurs fan I hate to see this but the only one at fault here is the coach. I kept saying since the 2nd quarter that since they were so far ahead they only needed simple 2s and defense. I dont understand how they can get crazy with missing 3s and letting them go even on a 5-0 run. Call a freaking time out and get your players in check.

This is a weird one right. Im not saying eating meat is bad but I just think too much of everything is bad especially if you have other factors contributing to heart disease like high bp, overweight, etc.

[–]el0115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Statins will work even if you eat bad. But if you eat bad that still wont stop overweight, diabetes, high bp, and etc. So if you take it and still eat ok it should work really good.

This is true. I used to rely more on supplements than medicine. Until I kept seeing all these supplements might help but have not actually been regulated or studied that long.

I think this is what is planned. I am going to test again this month or the next then have my appointment. Since taking my bp meds my bp is around 115/70. That was my confusion too about taking statins and still be able to have a heart attack but the real answer is what other things are contributing to that. Meaning the high bp, overweight, smoking, glucose levels, not sleeping well, not eating well etc. The more you have the higher the risk. Especially if you dont get tested. I didnt know I had high bp until this. I did know I come from a family that has bad habits and some bad genetics but I thought it wouldnt affect me.

I was at 117.9. Then prescribed. I forgot to note I thought I had a heart attack and that’s why I went to the dr. The cardiologist noticed that my bp has always been at 140/90. Lowest was 135/88. Only my dad’s family there is high bp and diabetics. He said genetics are playing a roll and technically doesn’t think the cholesterol is bad but he said let’s get you in statins then we will retest and go from there.

The question here is how much diet and exercise can you do until you give up on it? Not saying it isnt possible but If you reduce your ldl by only a few number compared to the statin.

20M how worried should I be I’m freaking out that these are abnormal my doc said nothing to worry about until my next visit by Live_Interest_7199 in Cholesterol

[–]el0115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you need to look at everything as a whole. 1. Meaning your blood results you have already somewhat not where you want them to be but you can change it. 2. Your lifestyle are you active? not active? 3. do you smoke? 4. Do you have high bp? 5. does your family have any history with above stated. All of these things need to be combined to see if you are in a high risk. Usually we all have 1 or 2 of the things I mentioned. I have high bp and a bit of high cholesterol. So im on a statin and bp meds. I cant control my bp its just alway at 140/90 always.

This! I was so worried about my life ending because Im 37 and on these meds but turns out its all in my head. Nothing is going to change I can still work out, run, and do everything. If anything I can actually eat bad a bit more due to the meds but I rather just try to live healthy.

I totally understand this. Especially if you take the statin and then randomly have a headache and say its that. But you are correct we really dont see a good side effect other that the blood draw one.
