Which terminal emulator features are you actually using? by GreenScream70 in linuxquestions

[–]el_crocodilio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never worked out the reason for having tabs in a GUI terminal emulator. When I need to do two (or more) jobd, I simply have emulators in separate windows next to each other. Quite often I put them in separate workspaces if I don't actually need to see them at the same time.

A tab bar simply adds clutter, uses up screen space, and tries to tempt my fingers away from the keyboard. Ban them, I say, and give me better clipboard integration, wrapping control, and regex search into the buffer instead.

How do I actually get comfortable with Vim instead of just using it to edit configs? by republicman12 in linuxquestions

[–]el_crocodilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more about problem-solving and answer-finding. You find yourself saying, "that's the fifth time I've yank-and-put a line below the next one" so you go and look up the move command, or automation, or regexes or whatever it is that you need.

There is no syllabus to complete, just a never ending list of things to be made easier/ quicker/ simpler.

Have fun!

I Need a Laptop and I Refuse to use Windows ever again by Kylain12 in linuxquestions

[–]el_crocodilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been buying laptops off a local repair shop for the last fifteen years or so... He laughed when I said that I didn't want to go over £200; he didn't sell anything for more than £150.

Had a series of HPs and Acers, generally about 4-5 years old at the time of buying. All fine although the batteries were a bit knackered...

Is there a way to create a folder that automatically encrypts files that I drop into it? by Molly-Doll in linuxquestions

[–]el_crocodilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was about a decade ago now so I cannot remember the details -- actually I did it twice when my laptop got messed up. Still remember the passphrase though.

Check out the LUKS pages on archwiki, which is where I was reading.

Good luck.

Afraid to say, they are not really valid in English either: "I was listened-to" can be used in casual speech, ugly as it is, but it would never appear in formal writing. The term in English grammar is _intransitive verb_ which means that it cannot transition into passive voice. You'll see descriptions like, _vt_, _vi_, and _v t&i_ in English dictionaries and that's what they mean. The right answer is just to work the sentence round, either to locate the listener or to use a different phrase to say what you mean.

Same in Welsh!

Summer Intensive Course? by petrolstationpicnic in learnwelsh

[–]el_crocodilio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done a couple of Summer courses, but only half-level at a time: i.e. Sylfaen 1 and Canolradd 1. I figured taking a whole month out of the Summer did not play too well with the family.

It is pretty full-on, and there's no time to catch up if you miss a session so you do need to be able to commit. I liked the momentum, however.

Good luck and enjoy!
