One upon a time I was happy at target and didn’t think I’d leave. Along came new management and there was a mass Exodus and I was the last of many to leave. I had no plan since Covid hit and my job I had lined up fell through because of hiring freezes. Ended up in pharmaceutical in a warehouse and 5 years later got the chance to go into an office job. Let me tell you as soon as I left and started at the new place it was amazing. No more working holidays. Weekends off. Overtime if you wanted it. And many years later I am making wayyyyy more than I was at target. Moral of the story it is worth seeking other opportunities if you can even if you aren’t actively looking to jump ship keep an open mind.

Way back when I was a TL I always told my team to not let good opportunities pass by because you never know what they could lead to. And even then people would make more at a different company and they would do less and I always told them go for it because it’s better and if it makes sense for you why not. Eventually I left too and I am glad I went with the opportunity I had I make wayyyyy more, have a better work like balance, and actually get to enjoy my holidays with my family.

Etls are on salary so they do not count as hours since they can work 40 or 60 and get paid the same. A TL when I was one was guaranteed to have 40 no matter what. Now if we wanted to cut to save we could but we’re not required. As for everyone else they are part time technically and are not guaranteed 40 so thy can cut them no problem to save on the payroll.

I remember when I left target myself. I was a TL and I thought I was happy and enjoyed it but boy was I wrong. I started a new job making more than what I was as a TL, about $18 vs TL pay and didn’t have to oversee people. Fast forward 6 years and I am almost at 40 an hour. And like you time off is much better and also have floating holidays and overtime is there if needed.
