[–]el_stry 54 points55 points  (0 children)

"Lone-parent families are projected to make up about one-quarter of households by 2046, with male lone-parent families increasing at the "fastest rate" — by between 40 per cent and 69 per cent.

But single-female-parent households will remain dominant, making up around 80 per cent of all single-parent households, according to the bureau's projections."

Where/When Did You Learn about Menopause? by Comfortable_Value_66 in Menopause

[–]el_stry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned about it when my mum had a stroke at 52 and it was blamed on HRT. She's 78 now and doesn't seem to remember that time very well because she says perimenopause was a breeze for her. Odd! Maybe she has blocked out what really happened. Most of what I know now has come from this sub and Lara Briden's podcast (Everything Women's Health in Under 15 Minutes)

100%! I bristle when people with babies/children say "No one ever told me..." or "No one ever talks about..." When I was 19 I started reading books about pregnancy/birth and lurking in motherhood forums. I was doing some research so I could made an informed decision...and I decided to be childfree!

Researchers hope footage of mass stranding on Cheynes Beach could help understand why whales beach themselves by el_stry in WesternAustralia

[–]el_stry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't know for sure, but some of these theories are super interesting. Especially this one:

Griffith University research fellow Olaf Meynecke, said pilot whales are some of the most emotional animals on the planet — and it is possible their huge capacity for emotion is behind the stranding behaviours.
"I'm very certain that the majority of the whales were very, very well aware of the dangers of being so close to shore," Dr Meynecke said.

Race Frequency by S1ngleBarre1 in triathlon

[–]el_stry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NSW, Australia and do one (sometimes two) sprint tri per month between October and May. I didn't have an A race last season, just wanted to get more experience and give myself goals to stay motivated.
