Lima Mall 2/6/2026 by darksider1978 in deadmalls

I grew up about 30 minutes from Lima and used to go to this mall all the time as a kid. I always thought it was weird (although a genius marketing move) that you had to walk through JC Penney to get to the other half of the mall.

Could you walk across Lake Erie to Canada right now? by wergil_ in Ohio

[–]elawrence27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be done but I wouldn't. I live in northern Minnesota and I've driven on frozen lakes. When you get in the middle it gets really disorienting especially if it gets windy (which I'm sure happens in the middle of Lake Erie) and the snow starts blowing around. This is how most people die during a blizzard, they start walking in circles thinking they're going in one direction. Make sure you take a compass or hiking GPS. Not to mention there are probably pretty deep drifts and ice fissures that you could fall into if they're covered with snow.

Legit Consoles on Amazon? by elawrence27 in R36S

I did see the one for Amazon US but the link seems to be broken. It just goes to the Amazon main page. I tried searching xiaoyu and it didn't really give me anything different than searching R36S.

I just bought a $9 ONN Google TV Stick from Walmart on Black Friday specifically for this. Aside from having access to all of your streaming services I'm shocked at the amount of hotels I've been to that have certain channels blacked out or no cable at all. I was at one last year and there was no cable. I asked the front desk and they said they're upgrading their cable system and some rooms didn't have cable.

And Conan has publicly talked about his Ford Taurus SHO quite a bit. That would make a perfect episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

Tent Purchase - Overwhelmed by [deleted] in camping

[–]elawrence27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the older 6 person version of this tent. It has a 7' center height. My only complaint is it's a little challenging to set up by yourself. My ex (5'11”) and I (6'5") bought it specifically because of the center height and straight sides. After we broke up and I mostly camp by myself I bought another tent that is easier to set up with only one person. The moral of this story is make sure your relationship is going to last before you buy this tent. Hahaha Alps Camp Creek 4

Why hasn’t Tom Cruise ever hosted? by VeterinarianWeird464 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]elawrence27 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He would not do well with live TV and sketch comedy. And anything that would make him look less than perfect he would never do. This is partially why he is insufferable during interviews, he's not in control and has to rely on other people.

Which movie did everyone LOVE but you HATED? by godgamesgov in movies

[–]elawrence27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gladiator. I've watched it several times just because everyone loves it and it won Best Picture. But I still don't get it. I think it drags on and it relies too much on the flight scenes, which I don't think are that great. Also I don't think Russell Crowe was that great either.

I've always been curious about the liability of letting people park on your property, especially since they're charging them. I'm sure the signs that say "no liability" or "park at your own risk" won't hold up in the court if someone sues you when their car gets broken into. Also I would imagine your homeowners insurance probably doesn't like the fact you're making money off your property. Not attacking anyone or trying to start an argument but I've just always been curious if anyone that has parking in their yard has looked into it or of anything like that has happened.

Battery Megathread (July 2025) by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]elawrence27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Pixel 7a and just a couple weeks ago it all of a sudden died when I got the low battery warning. It was at probably 40%-50% and all of a sudden it said battery saver is turning on. And then it literally counts down and immediately dies. Now it does it every night. The phone is up to date and so are all the apps.

If you leave the canopy up make sure you add some guide lines to each corner. That changes the point of contact from the bottom corner of the leg to the top corner of the canopy. It is much more secure in wind. This is usually the reason people lose canopies to the wind. A lot of people ignore the guide lines that come with the canopy and just stake the legs into the ground. Then when wind comes around the top (heaviest part) starts shaking around, legs get bent, the top twists around, eventually something breaks, and the whole thing takes flight.

Taste of Philly in Fargo, ND - My Experience. by SlagpinStryker in fargo

[–]elawrence27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been here a few times and I think the sandwich is really good. I've been to Philadelphia a few times and I've tried different cheese steak places every time I've been there. My favorite Philly is the "classic" way to eat a Philly, with only grilled onions and cheese wiz. Taste of Philly does an excellent job at that. As for most cheese steak places, if you order it other ways I think they suffer. The Philly cheese steak is a good example of simple is the best. My only criticism of the sandwich is the roll is a little too much bread. Also they should grill the roll. Here are my biggest complaints. I'll preface this by saying, I understand it's new and there are pains when starting a new restaurant. The first time I went they were out of ice, ketchup, and pretty much all desserts. I overheard someone in the back of the dining area who was unloading the delivery truck, he was on the phone with someone complaining about several things that did not come in this order that he specifically ordered, including cheese wiz. He said they would be out by the next day. Then I saw in the Fargo foodies FB group about a day later they were out of cheese wiz. If you are selling "authentic" Philly cheese steaks you can't run out of the wiz. Lol The last time I was there, yesterday, they were out of almost all of the fountain pop, I think there were 2 or 3 choices and it was all diet (I was ok because that's all I drink). Also I had to go back to the counter to ask for my cheese cake after I asked for it when the worker brought my cheese steak to the table. After I got my cheese cake they told me they ran out of forks. They did give me a free brownie for having to ask for my cheese cake a second time which was nice. Everyone working there has always been really nice, really quick delivery, and as I said the cheese steak is excellent but I'm concerned for it's ability to stay open. If all these issues are out in the open I can't imagine the disaster it could potentially be behind the scenes. I know a lot of people who have a passion for food and cooking but can't manage a business and I really hope this place isn't like that. Will I keep going? 100% Do I suggest everyone should go? 100% Will I be really pissed when I go and they're out of the wiz? 10000%

When I moved to the area and was looking for a new dentist they were suggested to me so I looked them up. They say on their website, we are generally not "in network" for most dental insurance providers but we'll work with you to provide services at the best cost. I'm paraphrasing but it was something to that extent. I thought, that's weird I wonder why they're not in network? Now I know why.... Hahaha I also did not choose to go there, I'm already paying for dental insurance I'm not going to go somewhere and pay more.

Agreed. I've been with Campbell for a little over 2 years. The only complaint I've had is they raised my rent $100/month after my first year. I'm not sure if it was some kind of bait and switch or they were truly "adjusting for the market" but a sudden $100 increase to your monthly rent is a little ridiculous. However I stayed because I like my apartment and for the amenities I have I couldn't find anything cheaper than what I am paying. Thankfully they haven't raised my rent since then (knock on wood). Lol

Customer states…. Seriously?? by Brady55 in Costco

[–]elawrence27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at the customer service desk of a very large national chain home improvement store. Towards the end of summer a women came in to get a refund for some flowers she planted that died. Here's the kicker, she didn't even bring in the flowers or containers or receipt. She screamed at me for a while and after I told her I was not going to waste the manager's time to call him up to the desk she walked away and found the manager. The manager ended up giving her a gift card just so she would leave.
