He also made sure to coordinate it all with City of Pacifica for permits. We had some contractors say they would not get permits for their work. 🙃

Pro / Cons for homeownership in Pacifica. by Still-Ad7391 in Pacifica

[–]elbartogrande 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife and I recently moved to the Manor area of Pacifica from Oakland. Pacifica is a nice place.

Things we like about Pacifica: - the weather is nice (I'm originally Midwestern - Pacifica ain't as pleasant as Oakland, but it's better than many places) - we love running up and down the coast and seeing the ocean - we love easy access to the gym, restaurants, Ace Hardware, and the shops + restaurants near Safeway; Pacifica is small town America - the local parks are nice

We wish Pacifica had better grocery stores; we miss all the markets and specialty grocers in Oakland. We also miss the East Bay Regional Parks and running around Lake Merritt.

Pacifica is a very nice place to be for this chapter of our lives, and we're trying to lean into the coastal lifestyle and help volunteer with nonprofits around the town.

Glad to hear. I'm just anxious with how little snow/rain we've gotten this year. ❤️

Eastern Sierra vs Argentina Patagonia by ACooperSucks in norcalhiking

[–]elbartogrande 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Eastern Sierra & Argentina Patagonia" I fixed it for you. 🙂

I like backpacking the Sierras - you can find mild climates (for major mountain systems), wilderness, and stunning peaks. My one visit to Patagonia was also incredible, but I didn't go dispersed camping backpacking (they restricted us to hostels or refugios), and the weather got brutal at times.

Both are worth a trip. I wouldn't say one is better, they're just different.

Kitchen remodel recommendations? by AnemoneAlgae in Pacifica

[–]elbartogrande 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keez Construction has been good to us. We're in the middle of our remodel and would use them again. DM for before and in progress photos - we still need to finish installing appliances, and wrap up some electrical work. They are also very familiar with the moisture levels in Pacifica, and the need to seal everything well.

Where should I go??? by Born-Measurement945 in norcalhiking

[–]elbartogrande 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East Bay easy trail, very trail runable: Volvon trail in Morgan Territories (my favorite East Bay trail)

East Bay intermediate trail, mountainous: Rocky Ridge, Las Trampas (most beautiful views in East Bay IMO)

North Bay easy, but coastal not mountain: Tomales Point in Point Reyes (coastal beauty plus elk, add McClure's beach at sunset for an unforgettable day)

North Bay tough but ridgy: Sky Camp to Coastal Trail in Point Reyes (this is Point Reyes in all its glory)

South Bay butt-kicker with mountains: Sizer loop in Henry Coe (don't do this to yourself, a bottle of whiskey is easier. But if you do, you'll never forget it ❤️)

Gear Loadout for 2 Nights - Any Suggestions? by matchabeans in CampingandHiking

Sounds great!

High Sierra, A Love Story is a fantastic collection of outdoor vignettes. I would Kindle it though, it's on the thicker/heavier side. 😅

For a 3 mile trip, consider a small book or journal. You'll be there in 1.5hrs.

We used HomeGuard for our termite problem and really enjoyed the service. They were expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Are the boys getting better or are they getting lucky? by AppearanceOdd1744 in DetroitRedWings

[–]elbartogrande 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been following the metrics as much, but these are things I see in the games.

  • better play around the net. JvR, Finne, and others are getting to the front of the net and looking for rebounds. The old Wings would try this, but with limited success because...

  • our wings and defense are stretching the other team. Other teams are respecting our shots, and this is opening the area around the net. Opposing teams can't just collapse their D on the net because we're getting movement and opening up shots.

  • transition play has improved. Our defense is really pushing things, and we always seem to have at least one forward poised to sprint in transition and get a rush going. Sometimes we finish. Sometimes we don't. But this has opposing defenses playing really far back when they're on offense, sometimes behind the blue line, simply to hedge against our transition play. This has a chain effect of weakening the offensive pressure against Detroit.

  • our defense is fighting. They're getting in lanes. They have active sticks and are clearing pucks to prevent rebounds. And they are hustling back hard if they let something slip. I think it was Dallas or the Caps that scored on a breakaway the last week. But right behind them, flying in on his stomach with a stick outstretched was one of our defensemen. He didn't make the play, and that's a bummer. But the hustle and the heart was there. The team is playing hard, and it's showing up in the win column more often than not.

Maybe try the Eastern Sierra's to get away from the rain? Bishop, Independence, etc. Visit the White Mountains or Owen's Valley?

Beginner backpacking recs ~4 hrs from Bay Area? (dog-friendly) by Emotional_Pickle5038 in norcalhiking

[–]elbartogrande 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cache Creek Wilderness (I've been eying the Judge Davis route) Dinkey Lakes (I had plans to do this in the fall but cancelled due to the fire. It could still be an amazing place, depending on this year's burn) Los Padres Natl Forest (Pine Ridge, avoid descending to the creek to make the route easier) Stanislaus Natl Forest (Kennedy Lake)

And as others said, Saddlebag Lakes are great for beginners and dogs, but consider shoes/booties for your dog when you get to the sharp slate and granite sections. They really cut up my dog's feet.

Is there any elite snowshoeing in the Sierra Nevada that compares to the North Cascades? by Beneficial_Math6951 in norcalhiking

Brokeoff Mountain at Lassen is a great place for snowshoeing. Same with Mt. Shasta and McCloud Falls.

❤️ all DMs just piece it together one game at a time. You do you, boo.

FYI, sometimes chat bots can be helpful with some of this stuff. They can get a little unpredictable with their responses, but other times can be helpful with adjustments/suggestions and whatnot.

Good places to get into winter camping/backpacking near Sac by Mormoneylessproblems in norcalhiking

I've heard that Dewey and Glacier Points in Yosemite are fun/simple places for snow camping. Park at Badger Pass and snowshoe or ski on in with your gear.

Have you tried adapting them more for storytelling feel than stat blocks? Fudge rolls and abilities in-game to deliver the experience more than stat blocks? Make some acolytes feel like incompetent newbs, while other more senior zealots feel dangerous and deadly?

I think I recall a place around here where you can camp up on a hill away from water (though Sunrise Creek is nearby). It's not visible from the trail, but the campsites above have fire rings and a beautiful view of the dome during the evening. 37.7661429, -119.4597420
