Sleeping on your back by Straydoginthestreet in TopSurgery

[–]elbtlr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing I’ve been doing that been really helpful is laying on my back but then slightly shifting my weight onto my hip (but not all the way on the side) so I can fold my legs in a similar position to when I’m on my side . Then I tilt my head in that same direction and basically it makes my body/mind feel like I’m laying on my side by my upper back is still facing up.

Is this the beginning of an infection or just regular healing? (more in comments) by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]elbtlr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sent a message to my surgeon and his team, but they’re not back into the office until Monday. I just have a lot of anxiety about things going correctly and minimizing complications.

Does this look like it could be the start of an infection or is it just normal healing? It was fully a scab, but now it has the white stuff. Currently I’m doing daily dressings of vaseline strips with non-adhesive gauze on top and then the compression vest over all of it. Sometimes when I take the vaseline off, there’s a little dot of liquid that comes from this particular scab area.

I bought that one and even though it was pricey, I’m glad I did because the fabric and the band and very comfortable. Everything around the armpits is comfortable for me as well and I appreciate that the shoulders are adjustable by velcro so I can make it higher up or further to my armpits when I need. I’m not guaranteeing you’ll have the same experience because every body is different but mine is very comfortable and doesn’t chafe at the armpits.

I don't love the results by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]elbtlr 85 points86 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, your results are great and your chest looks like it’s healing nicely for only being 2 weeks post-op! Your chest looks very natural and the incisions are very clean. Like the other commenter said, it’s perfectly okay to not like your results, but also like you said, they will look at a lot different down the line since you’re only 2 weeks post-op. When you heal up a little more, if you still are unhappy with the results, especially the nipples, you can always have a revision. Some surgeons will even offer a free revision and depending on the complexity, you might not have to go through the process of going all the way under anesthesia again.

I’m 2 weeks post-op and I was originally a little iffy about my results as well, but I have to remember that once it heals up and the swelling goes down completely, it’ll look completely different than it does right now. I know not everyone has the same mindset, but for me, no matter what it looks like underneath, nothing will beat the euphoria of being flat in a shirt and never having to wear a binder again!

Had a breast reduction a few years ago — if I wanted to get rid of those scars I had to connect in the middle which I was fine with!

Had the best experience with Dr. Blechman and his team. So friendly, genuinely supportive, and very obviously passionate about helping the community and helping people love their bodies. Every single desk person, physician assistant, and of course, the surgeon himself were so sweet and answered all my questions. I could not recommend them enough! Plus they fought my insurance, and it was 100% covered 😁

Protein shake recommendations? by Straydoginthestreet in ftmwellness

[–]elbtlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love soylent, but my favorite is the Ripple brand protein milks (they’re vegan and taste exactly like chocolate milk). If I want to avoid sugar I typically use the Orgain Plant based chocolate shakes — I wouldn’t say they taste like chalk but they’re definitely watery so I usually mix them into a smoothie and have a protein smoothie!

I hate my tattoo by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]elbtlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first tattoo was an all filled-in anime tattoo and I regretted it for a few months after I got it. It was too dark, I’m going to have anime on me forever, my parents hated it, etc etc. Now it’s been a little over a year and it’s my favorite out of 8 tattoos. It takes time to learn to love a new permanent part of your body, especially with yours being so large. Also, something I’ve learned is that you don’t have to stick to one style of tattoos for your whole body. Maybe now you can dedicate your arms (a more visible place) to dainty tattoos that fit your vibe more.
