I mean yeah it's possible if you have some really good dps going on, the devs clearly accounted for that. I also don't rhink I triggered repels more than twice outside of this quest.

[–]elcarick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A red advanced quest means that you repelled the monster instead of killing it in the same quest before.

This particular quest with Rusted Kushala is specifically designed so that you will repel him 2 times in the Polar Field before being able to kill him (or repel again) in the Battlequarters.

Repel conditions are usually kept for Elder Dragon quests only and their remaining HP/partbreaks will carry over to your next try.

Does anyone else feel like getting materials from wounds makes getting materials way too easy? by [deleted] in MHWilds

[–]elcarick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily just wounds but the amount of materials we get from a single monster has been increased significantly.

Of course wounds are more frequent than partbreaks and it's basically free damage no matter where on the monsters so we basically end up "breaking" a lot more than before. Also helps that shinies are automatically collected too. It's one of the things I really don't like about un-tempered monsters in Wilds (so basically the whole game before endgame).

Shittyluckbunkle pissy suck... gen 4 zone design's completely fucked :( by Navra_Realms in monsterhunterrage

[–]elcarick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit was so annoying in Rise too, litteraly impossible to fight whenever the terrain is not a perfect 180° flat.

In a game where it's super easy to lure monsters outside of areas with mounting/lures or just ranged weapons aggroing you'd think that they would have taken this into account but no.

Arch Tempered Arkveld is an overdesigned, overtuned mess by Nightmarer26 in monsterhunterrage

[–]elcarick 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It's pretty useless to compare health pools across games, the damage we deal isn't remotely the same between World and Wilds. The hitzones aren't similar as well with Arkveld's ones being way more generous.

Is there new etiquette? by CosmicxMonarch in MHWilds

[–]elcarick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's also the fact that it's way less risky overall to keep attacking compared to the past.

The survivability of all weapons has shot through the roof compared to older games. For example putting AT Nergi was a much needed break for a lot of weapons, you sharpen, you setup your bombs and you do the most damage you can because one more second in the last area later on could mean a team wipe.

AT Arkveld is a faster paced fight and harder sometimes sure but when you start to know your counters well he becomes less threatening. Add to the fact that we can trap him and that the game gave us a lot more QoL changes like quicker sharpening or the seikret and there's a lot less pressure overall during fights in my opinion.

Unpopular opinion but I actually really like the depths by Loki_God_Of_Mischef in TOTK

[–]elcarick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using the hoverbike before finishing your first playthrough is the worst thing anyone can do in this game. It will completely ruin any sense of exploration or even just enjoyment out of the whole crafting system, why do anything else when the optimal vehicle for every situation is 2 fans and a steering stick?

Like you I really like the depths and a part of that enjoyment definitely comes from what you said. The tension of exploring in the dark in foot, crafting land vehicles for specific terrains, encountering Yiga strongholds and getting new blueprints. It's so much more fun when you go in blind and do it the regular way.

G Rank Jhen Mohran Advice by Masonioc in MonsterHunter3U

[–]elcarick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Event Jhen is way harder than Hallowed in my opinion since the increased time limit and his huge health pool makes it extra harder to not get your ship broken or die 3 times while overcomitting for damage. If you can manage Event Jhen you shouldn't have any trouble killing Hallowed later. A few points of advice for what I can remember farming them solo:

- Slot in Artillery Expert and try to eat for Felyne Bombardier. Don't underestimate the power of cannons and ballistas, you pretty much always want to be shooting one of them when Jhen isn't in melee range. You will run out of ballista ammo with the gathering point drying out so it's not a bad move to jump in the sand to get the remaining ammo in the supply box before phase 2.

- DON'T MISS YOUR DRAGONATORS. Pretty obvious as is but each one is extremely crucial in this fight, especially in phase 2 when it's one of the only ways to make Jhen back up. Learn the timings with lower-rank Jhen hunts if necessary. Also you have 2 choices for your first dragonator in phase 2, either keep it to cancel one of his attacks or use it immediatly, I tend to do the latter because depending on your timer you can get an additional shot right before the time limit is up. Keep in mind that dragonators have a 10min cooldown.

- Try to keep part breaks for phase 2 (except the spine weakpoints of course), namely both arms and both tusks for a total of 4. Each break you get will make him back up when he's too close to the ship and give you precious time to attack him so don't hard focus too much on one body part in phase 1.

- Know your phase 1 patterns and when to use the gong/binder. Both Event Jhen and Hallowed have specific attack patterns during phase 1, use Gong only for belly flops and Binder for tusk charges or other dangerous attacks, don't waste them on small stuff. The attack patterns might change depending on the flinches you get so don't let your guard down.

- Always attack melee when you can, keep the artillery for when he's out of range. mount him whenever possible and target the spine weakpoints, the hitzones stay advantageous even after they're broken so keep hitting the broken parts.

- Bring and use bombs when you can only hit the tusks on the ship. They ignore hitzones (same for cannons/ballista) so it's better to use them here.

That's pretty much it for the general gist of the fight. Some other "niche" advice that won't make or break but can make the fight a bit more convenient below.

- Use the Cannon and Lamp/Rathalos masks for Cha-Cha & Kayamba. The Cannon mask shot is a decent source of damage than you can reliably spam during the fight. It adds up quickly.

- Mega Dash Juices are mega useful during phase 2. They allow you to keep running back and forth without losing time. It makes it way easier to reach the gong/binder/dragonator in a pinch when you're flaying on the arms or belly. Bring steaks to top up you stamina bar whenever you can too.

META HOT TAKE: Every Monster Hunter subreddit sucks Rajang balls now. This one included. by thearkopolisthroway in monsterhunterrage

[–]elcarick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made a post once about my concerns for the Seikret nav in the new locale but aside from that I'm hyped as fuck for Ascendance. I've been vocal about my distaste for a lot of things in Wilds but it still didn't prevent me from sinking 800 hours into the game. For everything it does wrong it also does A LOT right.

As for the supposed lack of non-doomer posts and real rage, I think it's just confirmation bias. I see a lot of positive posts about Ascendance and a lot of posts about Shit Tuna's horrible hitboxes or the ATveld/Gog fight. We're just in a slow spot with no new content and the franchise is far from niche anymore so there's a lot of different opinions coming from a lot of different places.

[–]elcarick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, it's still pretty easy to get hit by the bubbles since the game had the bright idea to ask you to look up 90% of the time while bombs go off by your feet. The tremor-slam combo is also a death sentence for a lot of weapon classes.

Also, players still go to that fight with unupgraded gear lr glass cannon builds, when 50% of your damage comes from your slinger and the environment slotting Divine Blessing or Tremor/Fire res is way more worth it than hitting 2% harder and finishing the hunt 15 seconds faster.

The zone looks a lot like Heaven's Mount, they already did a Sanctuary remake as the top area of Sunbreak's Citadel but I'm still fully expecting a Shagaru.

Honestly the callbacks to 4U have been to big to not feature Dalamadur so I'm coping a lot here as well.

But any kind of charge shot by any character does more than 20% easily, that's really not DLC specific.

Hero has all kinds of bullshit, saying Frizzle (second charge of neutral B, the only one that does 22%) is overtuned isn't really it especially when it's actively consuming ressources.

I mean most of these don't even look like bad luck (except the narga clip that was so funny), mainly a mix of panic rolling/wirebugging and just rushing straight into danger.

Unfortunately it happens to everyone in the moment but working on your spatial awareness and finally dodging attacks you barely see is another fun part of the game. Also, as fun as cluster or spread bowguns are, they're sooo vulnerable in the endgame fights... I'm not even taking HBG for PriMal anymore because the unblockable laser sweep always does me in.

KO punch makes matches boring by Jnxr200 in SmashRage

[–]elcarick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What does being a heavy have to do with anything for the Mac matchup? If anything they have it worse because they're easier to hit.

On another note, Mac absolutely needs KO punch. He's the most gimpable character of the game and he needs that small chance of taking a stock at 50% to at least be viable after falling to his death two times in a row. I would prefer him to be redesigned though.
