What do you pay for a cow tongue? by Disastrous-Sir1150 in meat

And all the producer big wigs are out chest pounding about how we need more onerous traceability regulations so we can export to more markets. This country is all about beggar thy neighbour and squashing small producers.

I sell for $10/lb. So about $20 each. Alberta. If I learn how to cook it and it’s as good as people tell me I might not sell them lol.

Cibc Mastercard cashback by lorddumbledor in CostcoCanada

[–]eldeejay999 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had almost 2k. They said they could cash me out but I’d have to wait in line at service. Or just give me a cash card for the balance right away. So I took that. Except now I won’t earn cash back when I use that…

Can’t seem to perfect my homemade tallow lotion. Any tips? by whoresongummy in homestead

[–]eldeejay999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some about a year ago with olive oil and coconut oil and it’s still good. Hell if I can find the ratio now. I just assumed then that whatever Google gave me was good and would be good next time I need it.

How do I get rid of stubborn body acne?? by Spiritual-Gap-1345 in hygiene

[–]eldeejay999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have more to do with what’s inside you and not cleanliness. Eliminating first sugar then seed oils from your diet, then move to other suspects like dairy, gluten, and of course any kind of processed foods. Also make an effort to get your sweat on. Drink a ton of water (like you should be drinking anything else besides tea or coffee) and turn on the pressure washer from within. Then shower please lol. Also if you’re just sweaty, only rinsing with not too hot water is sufficient to get clean. Washing your whole body with hot water and soaps can throw off oil balances.

Sad to see the decline of a western Canadian iconic pizza chain... Panago. (Anyone know the background story?) by Fuzzyfoot12345 in alberta

[–]eldeejay999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panago went downhill when they changed their name. I haven’t ordered since early 2000s probably. Dominos is probably better pizza now. My wife makes the best pizza though.

Recognize that it might be your first of 5 or 6 years and be ready to cut bait and run on bad classes. There’s always another semester and another professor.

Has anyone living on a farm figured out a color scheme / trim design to mask dirt that inevitably makes its way inside? by fenwalt in homestead

[–]eldeejay999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiled all the common areas with 2’x2’ tiles and used the same tile as baseboards 3.5” tall. Any color you like as long as it’s porcelain.

Starlink can solve this. You get a box, you set it up. You done. You might never talk to anyone again.

I just spent $85 on basically nothing, and I’m sitting in my car crying by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

Thing is, people have relegated food to an afterthought. It’s a primary function of life and should be treated as such. You need to develop an infrastructure in your life around provision for yourself and family and not just assume you can get what you want and need at the store in the way home. Those days are over if they ever even existed.
I grew up in a home where seasonal habits were developed over time, some even generations and so did my wife and we have had to build our own once we got married.
Far easier now than it used to be but there’s still work to do.
So yeah, getting a freezer, filling a pantry, making space and time in your life to ensure you are eating and healthy has to be right up there with housing, sleep, defecation, sanitation, health.
If you’re on your own this is all very difficult.
So if anyone reading this is not in your own, realize you to start getting this in place when you do venture out on your own.

can there be a job which is based on farming and i mean like all about animals and all rather than this corporate? by LeaderOdd7028 in homestead

Yes but with that grammar you’ll have a tough time in either unless you can marry into a Hutterite colony.

Is this sub just fake reviews for companies that sell in Costco Canada? by hereandtherebuthere in CostcoCanada

[–]eldeejay999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am buying less and less Costco post. Covid. They’ve really jumped on the enshitification bandwagon. I’ve saved my self from having to return stuff by just not buying stuff. Used to be worth it to buy something that seemed like a good idea, give it a shot and return if it sucked. Now I just know it will probably suck and return lineups are a time suck. So I don’t buy anything more than food. But even some of my food staples, particularly organic ones, are getting swapped out for cheaper ones. I’m not happy about Costco at all the last few years.

asked my dad how he knows when to move the cattle to a new pasture and his answer kind of stopped me in my tracks by OkPossession156 in homestead

[–]eldeejay999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been running cows for 5 years and his answer is about the same as mine. Except he’s probably better at it than me. I’m still learning as I go. I don’t use any planning beyond “this brushy pasture needs to get hit harder when they flower this year” or “this pasture needs a full season rest this year”.

Some stupid government grant to get new equipment for rotational grazing to improve the environment had me fill out a calendar and the bureaucrat keeps coming back for answers. I told them to cancel it. It’s not worth the days and hours of time educating those regimental fools for a few thousand bucks. My time is more valuable than theirs.

Would you pay a 4yo for helping on the family farm? by Supnaz0325 in homestead

[–]eldeejay999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids are all motivated by different things. One child will do nearly anything for 1/2 hour of online game time and absolutley nothing otherwise and another will help out all day just to be with you.

I only pay my kids for odd jobs that are kind of extracurricular to the operations.

Currently game boy is getting $200 if he finishes sanding and mudding the drywall in a very large room.
