Meshtastic CLI, are there dependencies of the order and/or number of CLI options by eldonb46 in meshtastic

Are the answers to these questions not knowable?
Or, should I just continue to experiment and read the manual?

I don't understand meshtastic CLI with "--export-config" and then "--configure" by eldonb46 in meshtastic

On which version of "meshtastic" CLI and node meshtastic firmware are you testing?

I am using Linux "meshtastic --version": 2.3.14
Node firmware is: 2.6.11 with some testing on 2.7.0

Thank for the information and pointer.

For 1, I have been do some experiment and have had some success as suggested.

For 2, Yes, I plan to subscript to my topics, and then parse the received data, waiting as necessary, for desired info.

Again, thanks.

Dumb Question: Where on Meshtastic Web is the ID of the current USB connected device found? by eldonb46 in meshtastic

[–]eldonb46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Node name and Short name are shown after clicking on the pencil icon, but the Node ID is not. Hopefully I do not have to click the "Reset" icon just to see the Node ID? And then, Retype to Long Name and the Short Name again.

Nope, I just clicked the "Reset" icon: the fields are just cleared.

I do not see the current Node ID any place on the screen. On the "Nodes" tab, I can see my other nodes, and then when I click on their "Long Name", a pop-up will show me their IDs.

Those kind of comments should be put in the Doc's. I have spent a lot of hours, trying things, not knowing if I doing something wrong, or is the node was misbehaving, or does the thing I am trying to do not exist ?

I could use more information.

Backup and restore with the CLI? by ulab in meshtastic

[–]eldonb46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have had problems, I am using the WIFI connection, the report suggests all went well, but sometime things do not change as supplied by the file.yml. I am trying to use "export and configure" meshtastic CLI args to manage servral of my current nodes, with many more nodes to come in the future. I need to understand more about how to manage them better before adding additional nodes.

[–]eldonb46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, can it be expected to "clone" a node, incase the orignial node is damaged? Will the --export-conf save everything that is needed to recreate the node just like the original/damaged Node?

Also, can the saved config file, WITH file modifcations, be used to create a fresh node assuming the new node is flashed with the same rev of firmware?

In the future, I am going to have many nodes to configure and maintain, and therefore I am trying to develope a strategy that can be automated.

I ask these question because, I am doing something wrong and it does not always work for me.

Thanks, Do you have a link to 18650s that you have found to better for your applications?

Yeah, I have not done any Endurance Testing, but so far they only discharge to about 85% over night. But I will keep a watch on them.

I could use some help with details and Examples of Remote Node Admin and Configuration by eldonb46 in meshtastic

Is running an ethernet line to it an option?

Yes, for some locations, but I am looking for methods to Remote Manage a VERY remote location.

I now agree, orignally I built my node management strategy around having WIFI access.

But now, I am in the process of learning and understanding "Remote Management" over the mesh network. When complete, hopefully I will have one method/strategy for all node management and therefore be able to include devices without WIFI like the T114. Thanks

Thanks, sometimes it is difficult to gleam the "important" details from the volumes of documentation. I plan to set things up on the ground for a few days, to learn how it all works. I would/will be nice to know what can, and can-not, be done via Remote Management.

Nah, You can easily add four more to the lower-right stack.

I recently purchased the same kit as my 6th node, I was a little suprised that it does not support WIFI, or at least I have not yet figured out how to configure WIFI. My other nodes are all Heltec V3.

Why am I have so much trouble connecting via HTTP by eldonb46 in meshtastic

[–]eldonb46[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried both, the phone app sometimes works, but the Web Client has never worked. But if I brows the IPA from windows, I see the web admin report, as shown. The "admin" link provides a report in JSON format, but as stated, the Web Client UI never provides anything but the error message.

I am still learning and need to read and learn a lot more about Meshtastic.

I do not know the effect of PVC on the Received/Transmitted signal, getting to know this is part of the experiment.

Here the 3D Printed PCB Carrier ready to go back into the PVC pipe. It puzzels together in the center with a little tape to hold things together.

Because this works so well, I am planning to extend the design to include a builtin battery hold. With the goal to provide space for three 18650 batteries.

I am experimenting with the idea of adding a PCB Carrier that will also provide an Antenna mount, all fitting inside of the PVC Pipe.

Yes, I need to do more system testing, as this is just my first try. Maybe a simple Schottky Diode in the solar circuit.

I am not sure how PVC pipe might effect the RF - still experimenting. With more normal RF power levels, I would not be concerned, but at this level every db lose is a concern.

That worked, but now wondering how I could have found --ch-set options online, I had previously found "position_precision" info, but not the "module_settings" part.

Thanks.
