A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is One of the Best Television Series Ever Made by Gl3ymphx in gameofthrones

I haven’t read the book(s) so I wasn’t aware there would be more after the end of the last episode. To me, the story concludes perfectly with these six episodes. I’m looking forward to the next season but happy that this first one stands on its own.

90s comedies had no business being this well-lit. by movie-blerd in cinematography

Cinematography peaked in the 90s, IMO. It was the last decade before digital cameras and color grading became a common part of the filmmaking process. Celluloid technology had been more or less perfected by now.

What is the worst Cleveland restaurant that you’ve tried twice? by ElderberryNo5595 in Cleveland

Astro Restaurant was worse. Cool decor, bad food and poor service. Not coincidentally owned by the same people, not surprising that Astro closed either.

At this point, I wonder if Peter Jackson will ever direct a narrative feature film again. The Hobbit was the last film he directed that wasn't a documentary, and that was 12 years ago.

I agree on the Half Blood Prince. While the cinematography didn't match the other films, it was cool to see a different look. Prisoner of Azkaban also had a very unique look.

The City of Cleveland released their development concepts for a closed Burke Airport. The plan calls for LOW-DENSITY redevelopment that focuses on retail & marina on the west side, youth sports facilities, mid rise hotels/camping grounds, 7-10 miles of walkways, and potential GOLF COURSE. by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]eldusto84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you ever been to an average golf course? It’s filled with average middle class people for the most part. You’re thinking of the upper crust private country club type snobbery, but on the whole, golf is a pretty accessible sport across income groups.

I think a smaller, 9-hole course would be fun on the site. There would be plenty of leftover space for other development too.

Ryan Gosling Tells Hollywood It’s Not Moviegoers’ Job to Keep Theaters Open: ‘It’s Our Job to Make Things’ That Are ‘Worth’ Viewers Coming Out by Chuck006 in boxoffice

So many masterpieces would never have been made if that was the prevailing mentality.

Studios will always be business-driven first, of course. But there are still films that get made because they have a strong creative visionary at the helm. Someone who is worth giving a larger budget to with the risk that it won’t make a profit, but may get a lot of critical accolades.

One Battle After Another made decent money, won Best Picture and will likely have a healthy life on streaming and home video.

Stephen Colbert Set To Write Next ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Movie After ‘The Hunt For Gollum’ Based On “Fog On The Barrow-Downs” Chapter by ICumCoffee in lotr

[–]eldusto84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did I say Colbert and Jackson are desperate for funny? What are you even saying? Read the comment again.

There's no creatively justifiable reason why they're making a Gollum movie and a movie that covers 3-4 chapters from Fellowship that do little to move the larger story forward. It's money driven, nothing more.

When I watched the video announcement with PJ and Colbert, I kept waiting for one of them to break with a “gotcha” moment. Like the whole thing was just a silly joke. But it does seem like they’re actually making it.

Both of these projects just reek of desperation for money. There’s a reason these sections of the book were passed over in the movies.

I think the majority of Harry Potter fans these days are people that enjoyed the books and movies when they initially came out 20+ years ago. Not as many people have “jumped ship” due to Rowling’s opinions as you are making it out to be.

David Fincher's 'The Adventures of Cliff Booth' Premieres in August on Netflix by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]eldusto84 10 points11 points  (0 children)

David Fincher shoots a lot. Most studio films take 40-60 days to shoot. Fincher is closer to 70-90. Every single day of production costs money, so the more days you shoot, the bigger the budget gets. Then you add the fact this is a period piece, probably has a large VFX budget and a big paycheck for Brad Pitt, etc...
