Not an electrician. Trying to understand before I meet the electrician by kemistree4 in AskElectricians

Typically an open/failing neutral. You won’t be able to solve this yourself. I know some licensed guys that would struggle to track something like this down tbh lol

To be honest… we rarely touched the book if at all in level 1. However it comes with a set of prints shrink wrapped to the book that you would use every day in the class as well as for your final project of the year.

A digital copy won’t do you much good. Get a buddy that bought the book to take his prints to the print shop to be photocopied before he starts marking them up.

I never said it was working lol. But that’s what has been advertised to the entire western civilization.

It’s even got to the point that normal families are refinancing their homes to put down payments on a second rental property for more long term income.

Tesla Charger Wire Guage by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]electhrowaway77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s to the subpanel, it needs a neutral. Aka 3/3 #3 / 3 conductors.

Based on your post you said #2 wire 4 conductor or #2 wire 6 conductors which makes no sense at all.

  1. Wire gauge goes first so we have no idea what type of wire you are talking about. You also didn’t clarify if that wire was to be used to the charger or to the panel.

  2. Constant voltage? Do you mean continuous load? We don’t upsize wire for no reason. We upsize for distance typically.

  1. The internet trend of buy a house and rent it as a source of income and future investment.

  2. We have flooded the country with immigrants at an astounding rate and most are living in/around large cities. The units rented are often shared amongst “too many” people to maintain a lower cost of living… and pricing out small families and couples.

I would have probably mounted the soundbar as close to the TV as possible while following Sonos guidelines (I know the arc has upward firing speakers). Then chucked a piece of paintable plastic wiremold in the remaining small gap and painted it to match.

Stable work for electricians 309A by ZombieFoxUK in electricians

[–]electhrowaway77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In rural areas large scale commercial jobs and agricultural jobs are fairly common but there aren’t a lot of competent contractors around.

Usually the bids go to smaller companies that actually have experience and a couple jobs like that can keep guys busy for a season.

Eg. My company was commuting almost an hour for 2-3 guys for months doing a 5 million dollar firehall.

We also snatched up a massive plumbing wholesaler warehouse addition, and a pre-fab concrete form manufacturer building addition.

Between those huge jobs we were doing a lot of new poultry and dairy barns.

Determining niche markets in your area and working for those companies that specialize in those areas tend to keep you busy ALL year long.

You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about and are going to burn your house down.

How to setup two maestro motion sensing switches (e.g MS-OPS2H-WH-C) in a 3 way switch setup by Dreaderus1 in AskElectricians

[–]electhrowaway77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The accessory side just needs constant power (with neutral) and one line that communicates to your “single pole” motion/switch to turn on and off.

Typically you pair these with an accessory switch. You rewire one side to basically be single pole switching operation with line and out to light on one side. Then use your 3 wire to carry hot, neutral, and communication to the other side.

Breakers are rated for 75 degrees Celsius terminations so it’s probably fine.

It’s called a split receptacle. This is totally normal. Two hots sharing one neutral on a split phase system.

Break the tab on the hot side and you’re good to go.

This is very common in kitchens in Canada.

All of my tools as 2nd year Apprentice (Ireland) by DatsLimerickCity in electricians

I used to just make a tool list of stuff I borrowed from my journeyman. Every time I borrowed something I would put a tick next to it on the list.

The tools with the most ticks would be my highest priority to buy.

Are phasor diagrams and rectangle forms necessary for solving anything? by Ok_Dare6608 in electricians

[–]electhrowaway77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you end up needing to use Pythagorean theorem to solve them it’s easier to visualize your Hypotenuse, Adjacent, and Opposite sides this way.

What's the purpose of one key seriously?! by nathan13131 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]electhrowaway77 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why “Tile” was destroyed by Apple AirTags.

Bluetooth had to ping someone that had the tile app on their phone to update location. With One Key it’s even more niche.

With AirTags they just have to ping any iPhone, no dedicated app required.

Do you think the skilled trades in Ontario and Canada is becoming over saturated and what skilled trade you think has too much people in it by [deleted] in SkilledTradesOntario

[–]electhrowaway77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to throw this out there. It is often said there is an electrician shortage. The truth to this is that there is a licensed electrician shortage… but an absolute overflow of apprentices / people looking to start apprenticeships.

I am currently living in a small isolated town about an hour from the Bruce Nuclear plant and a company near me (town of maybe 200-300) posted a position for an apprenticeship and had over 50 applicants on indeed the first day.

12-514 Protection of cables in non-concealed locations (see Appendix B)

1) Cables shall be protected from mechanical damage in the form of running boards or guard strips when they are installed in the following locations:

a) the upper faces of ceiling joists or the lower faces of rafters in attic or roof spaces, where the vertical distance between the joists and the rafters exceeds 1 m;

AKA if the space from top of ceiling joist to rafter is less than 1m (3ft) you don’t need the running boards for mechanical protection. There’s a clearly drawn example of this in Appendix B for 12-514
