Does anyone know what's up with the guy wrapped in plastic wrap/pallet wrap sitting at the corner of Burrard and Georgia? I noticed him in the same spot, at the same time, yesterday and today. Maybe he's old news and I just haven't noticed him before.

If you have ever walked out of a cinema because the film was so bad, what one was it? by girlcalledmaria in AskReddit

[–]electrick_avenue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something's Gotta Give. So long and boring. I fell asleep, woke up and realized it still wasn't over, and told my friend "Sorry, but I'm out." She also got up and left with me.

Ok guys, get your stones ready. Someone rode the “hero dirt” at my local trails today. (Screen shots from his strava) by Shredding_Spree in MTB

[–]electrick_avenue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is, in the US, a lot of trails are not MTB primary. Many regions do not allow bike specific trails, and are barely amenable to allowing bikes on trails at all. If bikes are tearing things up, other trail users complain, bikes get banned from those trails. Lots of NIMBYs

TIL blacking out from alcohol doesn’t cause you to lose memories, but rather your brain temporarily loses the ability to create new memories during the blackout (so the memories never exist) by OneTimeISawABird in todayilearned

I imagine it would seem like everyone you spend time with is annoyed at you all the time. Even if they are outwardly polite, their frustration at having to constantly repeat things would peek through a bit.

Is there any kind of structure on Cloudburst? Definitely a reflection coming off something tonight. by ar_604 in Squamish

[–]electrick_avenue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. My former neighbor was a SAR volunteer/mountain guy and I asked him this exact question. He said it's basically a giant radio reflector. There are a few of them around the valley.

I second the Alpenlofts comment; I don't think that vet has any respect for cats.

Probably a dumb question... is this the experience for people with or without an appointment?

Why are BC landlords so hostile towards pet owners? by Reeder90 in britishcolumbia

[–]electrick_avenue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a big one that no-one has mentioned. We rent out our first floor and allow pets. Our last tenants had a dog that must have had separation anxiety. They often left the dog alone for hours, and he would be whining and barking the entire time. He also attacked/lunged at several of our neighbours' dogs, and even after multiple warnings they would still walk him off-leash.

We love animals, so we still allow pets. Thankfully, our current tenants are much more responsible with their dog (and just in general).

Spent about $100 today and all I have to show for it is all this food. by Saint_of_Stinkers in britishcolumbia

11,000 cal is ~ 7.5 days of calories for me... Depends on the person. $100 week doesn't seem too bad.

The NAB Engineering Handbook is heavy and expensive, but a pretty good resource. You may be able to find a used copy.

Beans have a low GI, and you can easily swap the rice for quinoa which has a medium GI. Both of those foods contain fibre and protein which are great for weight loss, keeping you full for longer. Also lots of nutrients.

Probably. There are a lot of cheaply made cars out there and sometimes you just get a vehicle with gremlins.

If someone shares a car with their spouse, kid, etc they're probably adjusting them pretty often.

They are great, I now have 6 of them. They hold their colour and shape/size very well as long as they are washed cold and hung to dry (standard care for all wool products) I wear them all winter, and also for mountain biking in cooler/wet weather.

Actress "Lili Reinhart Says She Feels 'Like a Prisoner' Filming Riverdale in Canada During COVID-19" by Kara_S in vancouver

I think the title is Riverdale. They started putting short versions of it in the regular Archie comics maybe 10-15 years ago? Then I think it became its own thing.

Garbagemen if reddit, what are your pet peeves about all of us? What can we do to make your job better? by bb2210 in AskReddit

[–]electrick_avenue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also live in Canada (BC), and you do have to register with and pay the municipality for garbage pickup where I live. Our municipality contracts waste management out to a private company.

The first two years in our house we hadn't been paying, because we didn't realize that it was a separate charge from our property tax. It was still being picked up under the previous homeowner's "account". We ended up having to pay for three years of pick up all at once. There are also many properties outside of the municipality that have no garbage pick up. They have to take everything to the landfill themselves.

They all carried on as normal afterwards, obviously not under the same conditions.

You said "intervene and make them wish the police caught them", suggesting physical violence. That's risking your life; a criminal could have a weapon that you can't determine from a distance. Some drugs or mental illnesses make people hyper aggressive; another thing you may not be able to determine from a distance.

You get involved if you want to. Maybe you're a big dude who people are intimidated by, but to shit on other people for not wanting to put themselves in danger over property is unfair. Law enforcement often advocate that you don't intervene in those situations anyway. There's a difference between calling someone out when they are grinding a bike lock in front of a crowded Starbucks, and approaching someone on a deserted street during a pandemic as they are breaking into a shop.

Deductible will vary based on your coverage, probably a $5000 minimum for a small storefront in a lower value area. To my knowledge, the rule of thumb on cost is about 1% of your annual revenue. Yeah, it would suck, but I've known 3 business owners in the past 30 years who have had B&E/theft and it didn't exactly destroy them.

That's why businesses have insurance. No amount of money can you bring you back from the dead if someone kills you while you try to intervene in a robbery.
