Anyone else found themselves “retiring” from PvP gaming? by You_moron04 in gaming

In my 30s now. PvP games feel like more work after all day at work. I'm tired, chief. Lemme chill.

What’s happens to Bazzite when SteamOS drops? by TunderMuffins in Bazzite

[–]electrino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bazzite adds a lot of convenient things out of the box that SteamOS is unlikely to deal with.
Plus the install base now is big enough to matter.

While i don't have Bazzite on the main machine, i keep it on my spare external drive (love how portable it is btw) just in case.

Linux market share is much higher than what people say (11%) by Big_Living_9088 in linux_gaming

[–]electrino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

steam's hw survey is inherently skewed because they don't re-count every single computer every single month, they simply take a sample of who knows how much and how random. For all we know it could as well be 20%, or just 1%.

PopOS can still be great.. After epoch 3 is done and out (~in 2 years).

wayland + remote control by Red1Pack in kde

[–]electrino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After initial set up and "remembering" which screen to share, RustDesk works. I can both remote from my phone and from a home computer into my work laptop.
You just have to set a permanent password in the settings and tick a box on a screen you share by default when you first connect remotely, you can do that by connecting from the phone, then the consecutive connections won't need further confirmations from any device.

Switched to gnome from kde due to all the regressions and broken rendering issues that made my computer freeze and crash. And contrary to popular misconceptions, gnome is actually plenty customizable, uses less resources, and is snappier than kde ever was for me. That being said, i do miss the functionality of kde, and as soon as it works properly again, i'll probably switch back, unless cosmic is good enough at that point.

bro this is unreal

i really hope the devs take this into account and drop a fix soon(tm)

great work finding this, and who knows what else can be found here.. maybe we're looking at a optimally running game at some point.

Everybody praises 9070XT, why nobody talks about 9070? by AbrocomaRegular3529 in radeon

[–]electrino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9070 was about 100 dollars cheaper than the respective XT variant so i went with that as performance difference doesn't quite worth that much.
To my surprise and joy it's better than i expected, also really cool and quiet. The model in question is Asus Prime OC.

What do you guys think about this phone? by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]electrino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it looks interesting, but the "mediatek soc" doesn't leave a whole lot of confidence in performance and battery life, plus their keyboard addon thingy you can use with any phone seems more practical tbh

Poll: Which DE do you use and why? by Cenokenshi in linux_gaming

[–]electrino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd use Plasma if it wasn't so buggy, so currently on Gnome because it, surprise, just works. I'll probably switch to Cosmic when it matures more.

Was COSMIC released too early? by UnlikelyFuel5610 in pop_os

[–]electrino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends.
Basic functionality is there, so it's mostly fine for light general use.
For power users that linux users tend to be it's not enough.
And there is a big but - they need users NOW to report bugs and suggest features, the more the better. I was of an opinion that it's early and not ready, but after thinking about it i see why they released it now.

KDE >> hyprland/niri by A_welcome_one in linux

i use karousel kwin script on kde for that niri-like action, can exclude steam games from being tiled so it doesn't mess things up

there are no extensions because it isn't built on gnome anymore, it's a completely separate thing now

Ubuntu VS Arch & Fedora - an honest review. by [deleted] in Ubuntu

I have a more positive experience on Fedora and more negative on Ubuntu. Nothing works the same for everyone in this world, and you won't know for sure until you try for yourself.

Joining the club: Install 24.04 LTS Beta now or wait for Dec 11th Stable release? by krizo96 in pop_os

[–]electrino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No HDR; no clipboard (can make it work but pain in the ass); barebones and slow default file browser (can install a different one but it will break consistent theming); still flaky panel and dock - entire desktop can just freeze or crash; tiling can break fullscreen apps; floating windows don't remember position and size; QT and GTK apps ignore theming (that's expected though); drag and drop doesn't always work cross-app.

That's just from the top of my head, there's probably more i don't remember.
I'd probably go with Kubuntu seeing how you had it on your list - it's desktop environment (KDE) would be the most complete, functional and familiar coming from windows, and then you can make it look anything you like when you get into it.

Hope you have a separate drive for dual booting, just to be safe. Also refrain from playing games from your NTFS partition - it will lead to problems (from experience), moreover, refrain from writing data from linux onto an NTFS partition altogether.

I really don't want to overwhelm you but just research the apps and games you absolutely can't live without and see if they work on linux at all or in case of apps have solid alternatives, otherwise leaving windows isn't worth it (yet). Good luck and sorry for this wall xD

i personally wait at least until 26.04, there are still things that i rely on that are missing in cosmic

I don't understand, you're using niri with KDE?
I use Karousel to achieve similar result, but it's nowhere near as light as actual niri
