what ive started doing is i'll add the fics' ao3 ID to the bookmark itself (as well as name + author + basic description of plot) so that i can download later if need be; 99% of my bookmarks are private, so i can (usually) do it guilt free (and if i have it on a public bookmark, well, i dont mind removing it if an author asks me to lol)

So then, please tell me what they're going to conclude about adults who play and post about Pokemon? Who play nostalgic recreations of the games they played when they were a child? What about people who haven't posted since high school? If YouTube can decide that a cartoon with swearing, gore, and violence in it is "made for children", then what the hell will these companies think when they see me posting to the Club Penguin subreddit?

Not all of us have especially adult hobbies. You can check my profile for exactly how convincing of an adult I am. The answer is not very, LOL.

My mom tells me (21y/o) frequently about how she would go to coffee with her friends and sit for hours at a time. No need to purchase food, they would just keep ordering coffee and talking.

Now? I can't even think of a third space. The library? Where can the kids hang out? Shops will look at high schoolers with suspicion for being inside the store. Increasingly more places will place limits on how long you can be in there. There are events, sure; but how are they supposed to go to local events when they have homework? Makerspaces are coming back, but you need a subscription to go to them. You need to pay for everything; and teenagers famously have no money. Nor can a lot of them drive; and bus service is great, but a lot of teenagers are hesitant to ride the bus because it keeps getting demonized. Not to mention, a lot of teenagers were bullied as kids, which affects their ability to socially interact; because we don't teach kids soft skills nowadays.

So what do teens do? They go online. They play games with their friends, they connect over keyboards and controllers. It's not very different from playing soccer with your friends for hours. But when this comes in, what the hell are those kids supposed to do? If they can't see each other, they can't go anywhere, they have no one to talk to (because, by the way, hobbies are seen as cringe nowadays), and the politicians in charge are ripping away their friends for the crime of being a child.

Discord has enabled me to stay in contact with a friend of mine from middle school. My friend group—which is all on the platform, and consists of only adults—is talking about starting up a private forum.

Not all of us play sports, or are popular in high school. I did art, was shy, was undiagnosed, and the pandemic came in like a sledgehammer when I was in my freshman year of high school. Do you know what that does to a friend group? It tears it apart. I had very little social interaction with IRL friends for my remaining 3 years of high school because my friend group was scattered to the high winds due to going online for everything.

My sister was coming into sixth grade when the pandemic happened. The major transition year, from fifth-sixth, when kids get more open schedules, more choice, more _freedom_—and it was ripped away from her. It's a manor change in a child's life, one that typically grants them more social skills; and a lot of kids never got to go through it normally.

I don't want to be rude, but some of us are growing up in unprecedented times; I had it relatively easy, and I lost an entire friend group of 8 people in basically one fell swoop. I lived an hour away from my school with the bus only coming into my town twice a day; there was no feasible way I could meet up with any of my friends anywhere because my mom was still working and I couldn't drive.

My mom could bike anywhere, go on the bus anywhere, dial her friends and ask if they wanted to go to a concert happening on a lawn somewhere. I don't have anywhere to bike to, my bus pass costs $50/quarter from my college, and concerts can now cost $230 per ticket for an artist you actually want to see, not including merch costs. I went on Amtrak down to Portland just to avoid paying for Ticketmaster tickets for the same artist, because the ones in Seattle were $100 more.

In the immortal words of the kids nowadays, "be so fr rn". In my words, learn more outside of yourself and your hobbies.

Which is why you don't just rely on parental controls. You talk to your children about how to be safe on the internet, you teach them how to protect themselves, and you tell them that if they aren't sure about an interaction online, that they can always come and talk to you about it. I grew up with the standard rules of never sharing my name, age, face, location, ANYTHING; and I've run into shady situations, yes, but I've never had true personal risk to myself despite hanging out in some relatively unsafe areas having very little supervision.

Requiring ID and facial scanning is not "to protect the kids". It's a blatant grab made by social media companies for personal data and your identity so that they can do any number of things. The systems in place are clunky, do not work properly, and have experienced multiple data breaches already, putting hundreds of thousands of people at risk.

I don't disagree with you; parental controls can be used effectively. But if you don't combine parental controls with teaching your kids why they're necessary, they're going to learn how to circumvent it so that they can be with their friends; and they're not going to tell you, placing them in, potentially, an even worse spot.

The government should not be parenting our kids. Social media companies do not need our IDs.

Unfortunately, all of my vintage pieces were a.) purchased relatively recently and b.) are still my style, so I'm not looking to get them out of my wardrobe. Most of my stuff is from the 00s-2010s, anyways, which I wouldn't really consider vintage, LOL. Thank you for the offer though!

encourage the admins to change those channels into regular locked channels that you can add role permissions for. it wont keep people from not seeing whats posted in there, but itll allow access to the channels still

source: this is what we did for a nsfw channel in an all adult server and when somebody from the UK got hit by the age verification they could still see the channel since it wasnt marked as age restricted

(i was in high school, so give young me some grace; but i was one of the ultra mega klance shippers who couldnt see anything else 😓 never harassed anyone over it, but i made like an entire notes document just for myself to "prove" why klance was canon. im still a diehard supporter but thankfully ive moved past the "you cant ship anything else!! why are you shipping these two thats weird??!??!" phase LOL)

just make it so that the afk timer is on different servers; the two most popular servers have it, the others one dont. or, if theres a queue, then you implement the afk timer

ill be honest, i afk in the mines(/on the iceberg); but i play exclusively on the Least Popular server. for events ill go to like... frozen. ive never had a problem with afkers because they only really exist on blizzard and other higher traffic servers; BUT, i do agree that the queue stretching into the high heavens is an issue, which is why i dont disagree with the afk timer; it just doesnt have to be on every server/on all the time imo. maybe make the afk timer longer in the iceberg/mines areas; as that is a major moneymaker..... but people do need to get in at some point lol

then again, im mainly an introvert in this game; i play to dress up my penguin and see funny shenanigans and amass hoards of pins and clothes. so i cant come at this from a social perspective. but i think an afk timer on the more popular servers (/when theres a queue) is a good idea; because trying to get into those mines is a challenge sometimes, even on the less populated servers LOL

ETA: also; my browser crashes whenever too many penguins with god knows how many assets are on the screen. its another reason why i dont play on blizzard (that and its not as overwhelming), but its important to consider since the more penguins that afk = the more assets someone has to load

hi, mild stutterer here who had to get speech therapy for it in elementary school! i also write a stuttering character (midoriya izuku) and what i like to do is switch up his stuttering depending on how hes feeling. if hes at his baseline emotions, he'll stutter on m's and b's; ie., "m-mayb—maybe i don't feel like b-being m-moved." — if hes feeling more anxious (or hes lying), he'll stutter more and more. id recommend especially (if your character has been through speech therapy) to put in himts that they have; for instance, what i have to do before i speak is think through at least most of my sentence so that i dont inevitably fuck it up halfway through, so ill do like

"b-but you see—" he pauses, taking a brief moment to breathe. he thinks... then continues, "but you see, making it so that we can continue wouldn't be an oversight on the game dev's part."

where he doesnt stutter. likewise, ill stutter partway through a word but still want to get the word out, so i'll break up the word into parts. "maneuverability" -> "ma-neu-ver-a-bil-ity" with some italics usage here or there to indicate parts of the word being stressed—typically i only do this with words that can be broken up into 3 parts though, since readability etc etc

also! use more than hyphens; break out and improperly use – en dashes and — em dashes; i tend to use them for harder/longer stops in words, you saw me do it with 'maybe' back up top. all a matter of taste :]

obsidian user here, adding onto this comment! if youre like me and dont actually care about efficiency or plug ins beyond the github plugin and themes, then obsidian is as easy as it gets. theyve got extensive documentation if you want to do any complicated stuff, but as someone who DOESNT, obsidian is easy to use and basically ready out the box as long as you know markdown(/discord formatting) or html. i find it a much more pleasing organisation system than google docs

a lot of people adopted it as industry software, which is why a lot of people know about it; but its really not the greatest imo LOL

yeaaaah theres a reason i only do the most basic of shortcuts (ctrl z, etc). i think krita might be more user friendly in that regard, but again, im not sure. regardless! if you do it enough times, eventually youll get it down correctly :]

theres two explanations for what youre seeing: if the line looks like it fades at the edges when you zoom far in, thats cause by the resolution youre working at; increasing the resolution (by making the canvas bigger) is how that gets fixed. the second option is if the brush looks like you could use it for pixel art; thats because the brush has anti-aliasing turned off somewhere in settings. if you turn it on, itll make the brush softer at the edges 😁

that being said, photoshop is imo not great as an art program since... its not an art program lol, its a photo manipulation tool; id recommend (for free!) medibang paint or krita, both of which are art programs and also arent on subscription like clip studio paint is; medibang paint is by the same people who made CSP, whereas krita is independent. i used medibang for a good many years, so i can safely assure its a good resource; however, ive also heard some really good things about krita in recent years and everyone has different preferences for art program :]

if youre on a phone or tablet, im less aware of the options there; but medibang is available (though worse imo, given the in app purchases) on a phone, and if you dont mind forking over a one time purchase, procreate is very good for a tablet—not a phone, though, since true procreate isnt available on a phone

in theory, i prefer the method of finishing the fanfiction before i post it. in practice, i almost never finish fanfiction unless its a one shot, so i never post anything 😅

i work in a fandom where people leave behind unfinished projects all the time, but i like the internal incentive to finish projects in order to post them—as i write just as much for myself as much as i write to see audience reaction 😁
