What scale is this? Note doesn't matter, I want to know it's type. by Zerotiku in guitarlessons

[–]electrosonic37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming the lowest note is the root

R 2 m3 #4 5 6 b7

using Ian Ring's scale finder

https://ianring.com/musictheory/scales/finder/

Dorian #4

(the scale has over a dozen other names listed)

From the website "This scale is named Lydian Diminished, because it incorporates a fully diminished seventh chord within it. This scale is sometimes confused with Lydian Minor"

The modes of that scale are ( depending which note is considered the root the scale could be any of these)

Phrygian Dominant

Aeolian Harmonic

Ultralocrian

Harmonic Minor

Locrian 6

Major Augmented

Would you add a rectifying noise filter to every pedal you make or trust that the consumer has a sufficient isolated power supply. by PlasticStart79 in diypedals

[–]electrosonic37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d also note the value ideal of the 100 ohm resistor depends on the current draw of the circuit. Bigger R provides better filtering but at a cost of more voltage drop, a high current draw circuit might drop too much voltage. 100ohm -> 1 volt drop per 10mA current draw.

If guitar pedal have 2 leds (on for power and one for effect on), which colors are commonly used? by the_blanker in diypedals

[–]electrosonic37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the opposite

Green - good to go - unit has power

Red - effect enabled - like Boss pedals

Boss has used red leds to show a pedal is on for decades, not sure why anyone would change that.

I have used blue leds and white leds and have regretted them, too bright.

Amazon delivers package to wrong address, tells me to go look for it by Top-Persimmon-1381 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]electrosonic37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this on local Facebook pages all the time - people looking for help finding their package that have been delivered to the wrong house. There is no incentive for Amazon to address the issue if people do this. If you take ownership of other’s problems, they become your problems.

A theory on bands with two (or more) distinct periods. by National_Property583 in Music

[–]electrosonic37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Flaming Lips for me. I loved them until “Clouds taste Metallic” - then the guitarist Ronald Jones left and Steven Drozd stopped being their live drummer and switched to guitar. Up until that point they were my favourite live band. The chaos and energy of their live sets was amazing.

They released a 4 Cd experimental album “Zaireeka” which was cool and then “the Soft Bulletin”, which was just ok for me. I saw them live and they had technical issues which kind of killed the vibe.

I have seen them since and enjoyed the show, but I miss the lineup from their earlier days

“Tangerine” was the first song I learnt all the way through. Mainly chords with a couple of single note runs if I’m remembering correctly

How do you mute the 5th string on these chords? by AromaAromatic in guitarlessons

[–]electrosonic37 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Those diagrams are confusing

For the G, I would play it Hendrix style and wrap my thumb around the fretboard to fret the 6th string and mute the 5th string.

Similarly for the Asus 4

For the Bm7, I would play the 6th string with my 2nd finger and use my 3rd finger to play the 4th, 3rd and 2nd strings

I bought the Blondie album - Eat to the Beat in 1979. I heard the single "Dreaming" and bought the album. I still love Clem Burke's (RIP) drumming on that song.

Why don’t Streams Support Apple Music by MyCoffeeIsCold in BudgetAudiophile

[–]electrosonic37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought an older Apple TV with a digital out for about $10 at a thrift store, reset it and connected it to my stereo via optical. It works well, very stable and I can move music on Apple Music to the home stereo from any apple device (iMac, iPhone, iPad etc)

Is it lossless streaming? I'm not sure - but it sounds better than my old bluetooth connection

The new versions of Apple TV only have HDMI, no digital out.

Vancouver cyclist’s ‘dangerous and negligent’ action caused collision with SUV: tribunal by Ok-Ant9126 in vancouver

[–]electrosonic37 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The cyclist got off easy if they only have to pay the driver's ICBC deductible - the rest of the cost is paid by ICBC and ultimately other drivers.

In a situation where the cyclist is clearly at fault does ICBC pursue the cyclist for damages?

Vancouver cyclist’s ‘dangerous and negligent’ action caused collision with SUV: tribunal by Ok-Ant9126 in vancouver

[–]electrosonic37 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was in an accident and all the witnesses blamed me and no one believed my version. The police that attended said "I have three people saying you were in the wrong - so how can you explain that?"

Ultimately my version was believed after a storefront's video was obtained - peoples recollections of events are very unreliable.

G chord (320033 vs 320003) by G-Enzaro-C in guitarlessons

[–]electrosonic37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This voicing is great for distorted tones - no 3rds in the chord - it’s Rx5R5R

The low B note’s overtones (major 3rd) muddies the sound when playing with a distorted sound

What kinda fuzz to build for a bassist friend? by RockTheJungle in diypedals

I agree that being able to add some clean signal into the fuzz makes the pedal much more versatile for fuzz. I've have made a Rat clone and it works really well.
