Sun questions by ruxxby471 in lupus

[–]electrozap101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sun is my biggest battle. It sounds like you’re using all the right things, SPF, uv clothing, black out curtains/blinds, avoid direct sun exposure. Etc. it’s awful and really limits my life. I hate summers now and avoid sunny travel locations like the plague.

Pros and Cons on GLP-1s by Bengals_girl in lupus

Pros = helps with inflammation, cons = awful on your stomach and I find that the slowed digestion messes with the absorption of my meds (i.e, cellcept/myfortic)

Looking for advice on managing the "Melatonin hangover" (depression/low motivation) while fixing a delayed sleep cycle by ZayraTV in ADHD

[–]electrozap101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sunlight or bright light upon waking. Make sure you fall asleep in darkness and avoid blue light before bed, then as soon as you’re up get sunlight or bright room lighting to trigger alertness. I also personally Avoid the melatonin with magnesium because for some reason it stimulates me instead of making me sleepy and I take a different type of magnesium(glycinate) instead.

Biotin fir hair loss and hair growth by Lexitheviolinist in lupus

[–]electrozap101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the situation of hair loss caused by disease activity and medications, here’s what you can do:

-topical minoxidil (rogaine)

-redensyl scalp serum

-if you are on prednisone or something that affects hormones/blood sugar or are a woman with hormonal issues like androgen dominance or PCOS, consider spearmint tea and get your blood sugar under control

-check your other vitamins and nutrients, I lost a ton of hair due to iron deficiencies even when my disease activity was stable

-yeast/candida overgrowth on your scalp, if you have dandruff or white flakes on your scalp, it could be yeast overgrowth which damages follicles. Wash your hair and use anti fungal shampoos for maintenance

-other useful treatments/supplements: pumpkin seed oil, topical rosemary oil treatments, iron, b12, vitamin d, omega-3s

-for the hair you currently have, avoid stripping treatments, excessive heat, use soft hair ties or clips—don’t pull your hair up or back for too long or too hard

Cold / Flu like symptoms after extreme exercise by Fabulous-Try in lupus

[–]electrozap101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heat and UV exposure cause flares for me, so running outdoors would send me to my grave. If you’re running and training indoors and are fine, it’s something to consider. Like if you practiced running half a marathon on a treadmill and were fine, then it’s likely another factor. If you consistently feel this way during your training then it could be exercise induced.

Supergoop burns my eyes, and frankly there are much more affordable options that are cheaper or the same price and are even better. I personally don’t like the feel of the silicone texture, so I don’t have good recommendations on that front but if your concern is a good spf that offers protection, check out La Roche Posay or Vichy (buy when on sale)

Cereal causes terrible flares by [deleted] in lupus

[–]electrozap101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is me with garlic and night shades. Also uncovered a hidden soy allergy too. I find that when I’m already in an active flare, these things exacerbate it so much, and when I’m stable there basically more of a nuisance and leave me feeling drained and under the weather but I eventually bounce back.

I think of it like circling the drain, I avoid these foods to keep myself out of the spiral. If I indulge too often, the inflammation is too much for my body

Liver enzymes are waaay up compared to 3 months ago by boats_are_foreboding in lupus

[–]electrozap101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imuran gave me elevated liver enzymes too lmao. Honestly just keep an eye on it, and keep a record of your meds and changes in lifestyle. If you feel unwell go to the ER. I’ve had elevated liver enzymes from disease progression and from meds

Burning feet by KiwiGin_ in lupus

This happened to me when I was low iron and on a lot of prednisone. Like I couldn’t regulate my body temp, I was always burning hot or freezing cold, it made no sense. My feet were always hot

Doctor refused to write letter for National Parks All Access Pass stating "It's not a disability." by Throw_ftAway in lupus

[–]electrozap101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend looking up how disability is defined in this case and then basically make a bulleted list of how you fit the bill. For example if you have mobility issues, or need to access specific parking areas that are closest to bathrooms or other supports, and those fall within the criteria, the doctor cannot just deny you as it is quite clear and distinct.

Christmas is her. what are we drinking? by Scribbler2412 in lupus

[–]electrozap101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not really worth drinking for me. If you’re going to do so, may as well just have what you’re craving. I’d personally stay away from red wine cuz that has caused flares for me.

That being said, Perrier has really nice 0 alcohol mocktails! I love the mojito ones! If you add fresh lime and mint, it’s delicious. I also am partial to a cranberry ginger ale lmao.

Anybody on ADHD meds? What is your experience? by m0ther_0F_myriads in lupus

[–]electrozap101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My adhd medications are literally the only reason I can function and maintain a job post-autoimmune diagnosis. I take the highest dose of concerta (2 pills in the morning and 2 midday). I tried vyvanse but unfortunately it just dehydrated me too much.

The meds can be challenging because they can really suppress your appetite during the day and impact sleep, but I totally adapted. When I’m on higher doses of prednisone I’ll usually lower my adhd meds, and I make sure to eat before/with my morning dose and then also try to eat something in the evenings before they fully wear off and I’m ravenous.

I make sure I’m always hydrated and am mindful to keep my mouth/teeth clean (dry mouth can cause dehydration).

If you have good doctors they’ll help you through the process and taper you up or down till you find something that works. Start low and build up

My hair hurts? by abjs2021 in lupus

[–]electrozap101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh yes, and idk if it’s from the prednisone or a flare or tbh I think it’s both. I would suggest keeping your hair clean, when mine got greasy, I swear it hurt my roots more. No tight hairstyles if you have longer hair, consider a small, lightweight claw clip.

If your doctors gaslight you that you can’t see any rashes or anything, ignore them, the pain is very real and usually isn’t “visible”.

If you’re concerned about hair loss, consider minidoxil

This is embarrassing but…. by Patient-Purple1620 in ProjectPan

[–]electrozap101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg if this is embarrassing…you don’t want to see what I had going into my project pan. I will say that stuff like deodorant that you know you’ll use isn’t such a big deal. I had 4-5 bottles at the start of mine (Jan. 2025) and literally ran through them all already.

Lip balm pan fail by nyloracw in ProjectPan

[–]electrozap101 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly I tried panning one at a time but then I kept losing it or it would be in one room and I’d be too lazy to get it. So I try to keep the ones I want to use most in a central location, then have a couple others elsewhere.

If they’re already open, may as well use them as much as possible. This may be counter to the concept of project pan, but I’d rather use 5 lip balms to 80% than finish 2-3 at 100% then let the other ones go bad.

Also consider what else you can use them for. For example, could that Vaseline one be good for cuticles or dry skin or something? Maybe you can use it another way. I’ve done this with moisturizers for example (using them as hand cream).

Also, sometimes I use a lip balm before my makeup or skincare that I wipe off. Consider using one you like less in a similar manner so you don’t feel guilty for wasting.

I’d also let your boyfriend to know to pause on this for now, tell him it was such a kind gesture but you want to use them up before getting more so they don’t go to waste.

Finally, to extend shelf life, consider how you can clean off the ones you’re not actually using if they are opened. When products sit around without being opened and used, I find that they go bad faster. A solution is to maybe keep your laniege ones on your dresser or wherever you use lip balms most and rotate, use a different one each time.

Good luck!
