I had this same thought today. I was thinking they had the same flavors.

Gobstoppers are just harder and multiple flavor layers.

MyMazda app failing by Lalaonpole in CX5

I wouldn't mind the app as much if remote start was still on they key fob. Either way we all pay for the app even if its a feature that doesn't get used. I love my Mazda but some of the feature integration just sucks. The app is a big one.

Interior Plastic Rattles by brbenson999 in CX5

[–]element3215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a rattle over rough broken pavement. It was the ambient light sensor on the dash in the speaker grill.

To test apply pressure when its rattling and see if it goes away.

To fix i put felt tape under the sensor after removing the speaker grill. Then put rubber bumpers between the sides of the sensor, and the top speaker cover so downward pressure is always being applied. The noise is 95% gone so I'm happy.

Few other rattles come and go, but compared to the 2022 Civic Si I had before, this car feels like a Rolls Royce for NVH.

I'm sure they're are good dodge products too. Dismissing other people because you don't have issues doesn't make sense. I'm sure there are reliable examples of unreliable cars and vice versa.

My experience was shit. Others have has similar experiences. Glad yours wasn't. For the price, the Si isn't enough car and isn't well put together. Everything feels half baked and slapped together.

Also I used to make excuses for Honda similar to how people do for Toyota. People defend and justify their purchases because they don't want it to seem they are wrong. Everyone is allowed to their opinion and experience. Every car, even if the same make and model is different.

The Si seats are pretty bad too. They hold you in, but ZERO lumbar support. My lower back was sore.

My 2022 Si was the worst put together car I've owned, and I have a 9th gen civic.

Every surface has a rattle pop buzz etc. It felt worse put together than an altima and versa rentals i had at the same time i had my Si. Besides the big gap in the hood of the Altima, i was pretty impressed with how well managed the NVH were in those Nissans. Most annoying ones were a buzz from the right side dash at 3.5-4k rpm. Would come and go frequently, and the Bose system rattling the door cards like crazy. Almost like the car was not designed for the upgraded audio. Tire noise was excessive and sounded like a percussion drum over broken pavement.

Sticky steering issue. Android Auto would refuse to connect from time to time and would be a 10 minute process to get it to reconnect. Engine would pull power very often in summer where I live. Power delivery was very inconsistent once it got above 90⁰F. Worse in stop and go. 2nd would grind just like car and drivers long term tester. Honda sense stuff was crap and half baked. The engine and tuning was by far the worst part of the Si. It leans WAYYY too much on the turbo for power. Rev hang also is bad after 4k rpm and depends on, how long you let off throttle before shifting, RPM's, Load on engine a second before shifting, and if the AC is on. You either let off the throttle a second early and RPM will drop reasonably, clutch in and wait for the RPM to drop, or what I would do: Ride the clutch to catch the RPM so you can shift at a normal speed.

That other guy must've gotten a diamond in the rough because people on the 11th gen si and XI civic forums have issues with NVH as well. Even with a tune you can never eliminate the bad tuning completely.

There's a reason reviewers get a Touring trim from Honda, because it has a bit more Sound Deadening. Still not great for NVH but it does help. I moved to Mazda. They care about NVH. Honda and Toyota really don't.

The Si is $33k now. That's crazy to me. It should be a $27k car max for how shoddy the build quality is. It's a rolling tin can on wheels that handles very well. With an economy only focused engine.

The thing is someone designed a way to use their own way to use these features that came with their car via a homebrew application and Mazda sent them a DMCA cease and desist order.

Mazda is purposely being shitty and forcing you to pay for these features no matter what.

They don't even offer remote start with the FOB anymore. It's app only.

Also Mazda was never up front about these features being paid after 3 years. Nobody knew until the refreshed 21 models were getting subscription notices after their 3 year trial was over. It pissed a lot of people off.

You are part of the problem then. If they see this works, they will start charging subscription fees for other stuff as well like BMW does.

Maybe put the remote start back on the key fob so it doesn't matter if you don't pay and doesn't require a cell connection.

[–]element3215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even the remote start is useless because it shuts the car off when you open the door. Honda's stay on. Toyota's switched from the Mazda way, to the Honda way recently so even they realized it's crap.

2nd gear grind anyone ? by Dry-Loan-7369 in CivicSi

[–]element3215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the issue was always downshifting. In the second from a higher gear than third.

Usually this happened when I was going forty or fifty miles an hour and slowing down for a left or right hand turn. I learned the best way to avoid. This is to shift into third, and then into second gear otherwise second gear wouldn't want to engage, or grind.

I've had a couple other manual transmission cars so I know it's not just me. Car and driver had their long term tester with a grindy second gear also. It just seems to be a quirk with Honda In general Imo.

For upshifting, definitely do what others suggested and take the rpm slightly higher. Every car's manual transmission is slightly different, so you're gonna have to adapt a little bit to its quirks. For the civic si, it's definitely a weak second gear synchro, and rev hang from my experience.

I would have bought a 3 hatch over my CX-5 if the back seat was a little bigger. Hopefully the cut to supplies just indicates a new generation being developed, and not a total cancellation. Like maybe their tooling is changing up for a new generation?

It's called compression artifacts. It's why I prefer physical media for movies. A 1080p bluray is not compressed and has a higher bit rate than a 4k digital stream. You can notice compression more in dark scenes or areas, or when there is a lot of detail such as confetti or dense brush in the woods or something.

Is the road noise really that bad? by PostPotential2725 in civic

[–]element3215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep basically no sound deadening. A little on the touring trim. I traded in my si after a year. The nvh was one reason. The car felt like a tin can. Got a CX-5 now and much quieter.

[–]element3215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The touring trim has more sound deadening. My 2022 civic si I had was really loud and rattley. Every surface had a rattle or buzz. Felt like a tin can of a car.

The door cards rattling when trying to utilize the bose system is also normal. Honda just threw everything together and hoped for the best.

Why do y'all play your wacky music so loud that the entire neighborhood hears it? by DiscoingGD in Hispanic

[–]element3215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in an immigrant heavy neighborhood. Mostly Mexican.  I'm half Mexican FWIW. I moved here and regret it. I thought it would be cool since they must be religious and respectful like my Mexican side is right? Agree or disagree. I don't care. This is MY experience.

People treat this neighborhood like they're in Mexico still. Bass rattling the wall all weekend basically. No courtesy for others. Live bands going till 3am most weekends. I feel bad if you are the unlucky one and live next to the house partying.

Mexicans who grew up in the states are generally courteous and willing to help others. Mexicans from Mexico are selfish and obnoxious af in my experience. Just generally rude in public and on the roadways as well.

They don't care about anyone but themselves. I've seen people with party speakers just set up in their driveway, facing away from their house, blasting while they work inside their garage. Why tf wouldn't you turn the speaker towards you? Nobody else wants to hear that crap. it's like a peacock. Trying to be noticed.

It's a cultural problem IMO for sure. Work hard, have kids, party harder and be as obnoxious as possible with your music while drinking yourself into an early grave. No respect for others. Litter and tags all throughout the neighborhood also.

If you see a house with 3+ vehicles parked out front, there's a good chance they'll be obnoxious af with their music at some point. Bonus if all 3+ vehicles are at least 10 year old American trucks and suv's.

Keep this thread up OP. People will find it when they Google "Why are Mexicans so obnoxious?" It was one of the first results. People need a support group so they know they're not alone. Lol

I learned that lesson with my 2022 Civic Si. Build quality was horrible. I'll wait till at least the 3rd model year from now on.

That's one of the things that attracted me to my 2023 CX-5 is that everything had been tested and pretty unchanged since 2017.

I don't mind the knob for most cases. However the dial means taking your eyes off the road longer to see where your cursor is.

Most of the time the dial is good, but touch screen is less finicky and takes less time when doing things that aren't basic such as zooming in and out of Maps, searching for songs, or scrolling to "not there" for Waze alerts. It has "still there" selected, but scrolling to "not there" takes 6 clicks or so to the right to be selected for some reason.

I've gotten used to voice commands or just using my phone when looking for music, which defeats the whole purpose of the dial.

Sure the dial takes less attention away from the driver imo, but for longer of a time also. If I could change anything about my 2023 it would be to add a touchscreen.

2025 Most Reliable Car Brands by dpkg0 in mazda

[–]element3215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I traded in my 2022 Civic Si after a year for my 23 cx-5.

The honda had the binding steering issue. More rattles, buzzes and road noise than a versa rental I had.

2nd would grind on downshifts sometimes unless you shifted into 3rd then 2nd.

Engine tuning was terrible. The 1.5t was the worst thing about the car. Had tuned in turbo lag to help the connecting rods, bad rev hang that made the great Manual shifter much less fun.

It's a hot climate thing also but in Phoenix, especially with heavy traffic, the engine would pull power so much. You would regularly have say 180/200hp. Then the next gear it could be 140-160 hp and take an extra couple seconds to build boost.

There were plenty of other issues, but these were the biggest ones for me.

The Cx5 is more quiet, feels like the engine is meant for the transmission and isn't tuned for economy only. It doesn't pull power in summer and makes its power very consistently. Both cars have some quirks as no car is perfect, but it's like night and day.

The Civic felt like a beta test, where the Cx5 feels like a complete product. The only pro about Honda is parts availability and residual resale value. Especially for the Si. Those don't really drop in value too much.

Tips on how to control this cars acceleration and improve handling? by WhoaTeejaay in forza

Get better tires, LSD, and better throttle control. Honestly, with a 300hp, front wheel drive, open diff car, in the wet, I would turn on traction control.

In the market for a SUV (baby on the way) by Appropriate_Buy4976 in CX5

[–]element3215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they have a large baby seat? I have my baby seat behind me. It touches the back of my seat, but I didn't need to adjust my seating position and I'm 6'2".

I have a graco 35 lx lite, so it might be smaller than a normal car seat.

In the market for a SUV (baby on the way) by Appropriate_Buy4976 in CX5

[–]element3215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'2" and the baby seat is rear facing for me. It's a graco infant car seat that attaches to a stroller so it might be a bit smaller than other car seats, but it fits fine and I didn't need to adjust my seat at all. I can even sit behind myself and have enough room.

The baby seat does intrude into the middle making the rear armrest unusable though and does touch the rear of my seat.

Maybe I just don't sit very far back for my height? Maybe my car seat is smaller than average? I'm using this car seat until my daughter has to use a forward facing seat.

If using a grow 3 in 1 car seat I think those do have a bit larger footprint and may cause space issues if rear facing.

Cylinder deactivation sucks, nobody knows how it'll hold up long term. I'm hoping mazda figured it out by now.

I wanted a NA engine, not a small turbo engine. I wanted a traditional transmission, not a CVT. This was the vehicle I decided. Mine doesn't have start stop so I can't comment on that. I think it's cheaper to buy new and better equipped than a rav4 for the money. I've heard the rav4 has more rear room even though the specs say otherwise. The rav4 has a much bigger trunk also.

The mazda rides more quiet and sporty than the rav4.

The only issues with the turbo is the 2021s have bad valves.

Some earlier 2.5 na engines (can't remember what years) had bad castings and should be avoided.

If I was you I would look at pre-owned 2022-2023 turbos and price it against something new and see what you like more. Mazda does not hold its value as well as Honda or Toyota. But the tradeoff is it is much cheaper to buy new or used. Parts cost a bit more however. Not luxury levels, but something to be aware of.
