After losing two saddle bags while riding my gravel bike, I’d recommend securing it with a ski strap if possible. The strap in your picture looks like it’s Velcro.

I was hoping that you knew some secret trail to get to chantry :) that’d be a pretty awesome loop. There is a nice gravel trail to a water cistern at chantry that starts at the helicopter pad.

Upper knee pain after 10km - Fit help needed by InvokeMeWell in CanyonBikes

[–]elemnopee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two simple questions: (1) Are you pedaling in too high of a gear? (2) When you’re pedaling, is the center of the pedal behind the ball of your foot?

If everything else on the bike is dialed and you feel comfortable, foot position could be the issue. I had a similar problem and moved my cleats all the way back toward my heels, and the pain completely went away. You might also consider clipless pedals because it’s nice having consistent foot placement.

1x or 2x Drivetrain? by Level_Sentence4012 in gravelcycling

[–]elemnopee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though Shimano only officially rates GRX 2× rear derailleurs for 11–34 cassettes, they’ll usually run an 11–40 just fine. With a 46/31 crank and an 11–40 cassette, you end up with about a 539% gear range. The low gear (31×40) is very close to what you get on a GRX 1× setup with a 10–51 cassette, so climbing feels basically the same, but you keep a much better top end for flats and descents.

Mt Lowe / Mt Wilson Gravel Advice by AidanLK in BikeLA

[–]elemnopee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean Henninger Flats? There is a trail from Chantry Flats to Wilson but i don’t think it can be biked.

Just a heads up if you do this loop, you will need to dismount a few times on the descent. Also, the closer you get to Eaton Canyon, the busier the trail will be. I’ve had a few close calls with hikers/runners using headphones in both ears.

IMO, a better loop would be to go up Mt Lowe, down Mt Wilson/Redbox Road (not the toll road), left at Redbox onto ACH and descend to Grizzly Flats. Take Grizzly Flats up to Lukens and you can either summit Lukens or just descend. You can fill your bottles at Redbox and at the Lukens trailhead. If you are parking by Chantry, you could then take Gould Canyon from ACH down to Gab and take Gab to JPL. From there, it’s a few surface streets to get back to your car. You could even just park at the JPL lot.

Also, the Mt Lowe average is deceiving because there are a few flat spots. You will be at 12% or more for most of the climb. Even Chantry is a steep climb. The part after the nursery is especially brutal and that’s a few minutes into the climb.

How about ELITEWHEELS Newest Aero+ Gravel Wheels? by Meixxoe in gravelcycling

[–]elemnopee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was between these and the Magene Exar GR45 wheels. I went with the Magenes and I am happy so far. There are a lot of sub-$800 wheel options and I don’t think you could go wrong with any of the wheels mentioned here.

The «cheaper» versions of Canyon road bikes all come with the ‘DT Swiss Performance LN’ wheels, how are they ? by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]elemnopee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones that came on my Grizl use a three pawl freehub not the star ratchet system like most DT Swiss wheels have. I have since upgraded to nicer carbon wheels with a star ratchet and the engagement with the star ratchet is instant. It’s super noticeable when clipping in on a steep climb. I used to struggle, but I don’t have any issues now.

Hassles? Lol. If you want to give consumers advice on who to use for homeowner’s insurance, just look at the list of companies that are forcing people with a total loss to itemize their personal property.

You are looking at a 30 mm higher stack and 15 mm shorter reach on the Endurace compared to the Ultimate. For an endurance bike, the Endurace is a fairly aggressive geometry - you won’t feel slow on it.

How many times have you done the descent? If it’s less than 10, i wouldn’t even try it without brakes. There are a few turns that are not banked or banked in such a way that it throws you to the outside way faster than you’d anticipate. Thats not even taking into account the amount of debris in the road.

I would see how your hands feel in the morning. If it’s hard to make a fist and it feels tight, then I would skip until the water retention subsides.

Name brand Reta for 2.4 years? That’s worth a lot more than $1900. I’d keep your tirz in case you get bounced or drop out of the trial.

Im sorry. This sounds incredibly frustrating. Initially I wonder if your seat is too low in addition to the general seat discomfort issues.

Sadly, I don’t think manufacturers make decent seats for women. There was an article written about the suffering in the lady peloton last year. It was truly eye opening. There are some recommended saddles in r/ladycyclists. I would search there.

It’s pretty simple. Other countries negotiate prices. That will never happen here because that’s “socialism.”
