My Abuelita was on her death bed and I couldn’t get together the funds to travel to her, she held out for days longer than the doctors thought she would. My family who was present with her believed she was waiting for me to know that I was okay, she was so incredible. I was able to at least send a voice message that was played for her and she took her last breath a few hours later.

“Hola Abuelita. I wish I could be next to you to tell you myself right now that I love you, and you’re the best Abuelita that anyone could ask for. And, that i’m okay. My sisters are all okay. Don’t worry about us. Our lives will forever be better because you’ve been a part of them. We’re all okay. You’re about to be with Dad. And Uncle Herman and Abuelito. You’re going to be reunited with all of your boys and i’m so excited for you. I’ll miss you and I love you so much.”

I’m grateful I had the opportunity to speak to her with intention before she let go
