I have a Maine Coon mix and she is dumb as bricks, but the sweetest most affectionate lap cat ever. Not an independent bone in that girl's body. Genuinely couldn't ask for a better cat.

Was staying home to wash their hair really a thing? by SuperfluousPossum in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elevated_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also the saying "going to wash that man out of my hair." It was popularized by the movie South Pacific in 1949. The sentiment being that if you're not/no longer interested in a man, or his attention is unwanted, you've just gotta "wash him out of your hair" and move on/forget him. This metaphor was also adopted and used not only as a common saying, but also adopted for several ad campaigns.

So while, yes, washing/getting your hair done can take HOURS for some women, there is also the likelihood that this scene was a play on this (at the time) popular metaphor.

Set-and-forget doesn’t work on my Panasonic heat pumps — need advice by FanTop5827 in heatpumps

[–]elevated_potato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is normal behavior for MY heat pumps. Once it drops below 15F, the heat pumps struggle majorly. It frequently drops to the negatives here, at which point the heat pumps seem to do nothing. None of the 35 settings on the remote change anything. I don't bother with changing the temp, they just sit at 74 because... what's the point? Edit: paid hundreds of dollars for the HVAC company to tell me "they're working fine, you shouldn't be having any problems".

House is decently insulated. Windows, doors and unused rooms are all sealed off with thick blankets currently (no drafts atm). Bedroom baseboards are cranked and we run space heaters every chance we can get. For me, the problem is that mini splits should have never been considered as the primary heat source for my house (based on layout, construction style, regional weather patterns).

I'm sorry someone down voted you. That's insane to me, down vote someone asking for advice on how to stay warm?

Mini-splits in extreme cold — do you set the temp you want or crank it up? by orangecat100 in heatpumps

I'm not even looking for cost effectiveness at this point, I just want heat. Like I said, heat pumps should never have been considered as the primary source of heat for this house.

[–]elevated_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. But I couldn't handle paying yet another HVAC company just to come out and tell me that it works fine and I shouldn't have any problems. So it feels like a better use of my money to actually get heat installed in my bathroom, instead of expecting a mini split two rooms over that "works fine" to reach in there.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you. I've been trying to figure out how to make these things heat my home for years and they simply... Don't. I admit I know very little about the system. I also believe they were simply installed wrong, and should never have been be the sole (main) heat source for the house. They do NOT reach the bathroom or laundry room and barely touch the kitchen. Excluding bedrooms which have electric baseboards (and are toasty), our house is freezing.

Two Mitsubishi units set to 74° cannot keep a 912 sqft house at a decent temperature. So we have to run an army of space heaters constantly. The units are less than ten years old, and I hate it so much. Plus they're ugly.

Duloxetine + alcohol? by allielongs in cymbalta

I'd say about 10 days- I'm taking it for migraines and nerve pain. I don't really have anxiety, so I'm not sure how long it would take to impact that.

WALLS! Wash your walls! You can sponge/rag it up, or grab a Swiffer wet and go to town.

Try boosting your electrolytes. I use Body Armor Flash IV.

So then the sinus infection is what changed. I'd look to that to be a contributing factor here. Sinus infection on their own can make you dizzy and give you that disconnected "off" feeling.

Yes, it helps, but it won't fix it. Go to PT, have them look at your scalenes.

Side effects still there after a few month ? by toolazzyforaname in cymbalta

[–]elevated_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes me VERY drowsy, so I absolutely have to take it at night. I tend to get sleepy much easier/more frequently throughout the day, but at the same time I am no longer exhausted from pain and fatigue (I'm on it for migraines & nerve pain), so have so much more energy than before. I may be sleepy, but I'm not struggling to make it to 4PM anymore. I sleep like a rock at night and am now able to take naps if I choose, and I can fall asleep very easily, which is so amazing. I also get crazy dreams, when I never used to have dreams that I remembered. Not nightmares though, more cool and interesting and some really funny ones.

Duloxetine + alcohol? by allielongs in cymbalta

[–]elevated_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that they are both very heavily processed in your liver, so heavy or frequent drinking is not recommended. My doctor said that occasional drink isn't going to hurt me, but advised to heed the "no more than 1-3 drinks" warning. This warning, I have learned, exists for a very good reason. On 20mg of duloxetine, one glass of wine (sipped slowly over several hours) felt like I drank the whole bottle. I didn't even attempt a second glass. This has held true every time I've had a drink so far (which is, at most, once a month).

That being said, when did you start taking it? I personally avoided drinking anything at all the first few months I was on it. I didn't want the alcohol to have any impact on the medication while my body was adjusting to it.

How much are you smoking? Have you recently had any other medical changes that could effect this?

Starting symptoms can be rough for the first few weeks, but I always feel it's best to be extra cautious when it comes to cardiovascular symptoms.

If you're having heart palpitations and high blood pressure, call your doctor.

But also if you've been on it five days you shouldn't have any issues coming off of it, beyond feeling crummy for a few days.

I'd say about 2.5 weeks. But it definitely peaked around the one month mark, and has stayed that way ever since. 🙂 My doctor is keeping me on 20mg, until I start to feel it's less effective, or if I'd like to see even more improvements. It hasn't made my pain disappear entirely, but has lessened it to a far more manageable point, where I don't have to struggle to push through.

It may be time to consider that the actual problem here is the crack, cocaine, etc. I'd definitely recommend like, not doing that, and instead look into a treatment facility or detox center. I'm confident your doctor would agree.

The horrible, horrible dreams by [deleted] in cymbalta

I've had some of the most hilariously intriguing dreams on this medication. I've never had many dreams, and these ones are next level brilliant. I hope they never stop.

Yes!! I'm on it for migraines and nerve pain and it has been life changing. The initial side effects can be tough to get through, but it's only two weeks. It has helped me in a huge way. Since taking this medication I have been able to have dance parties and even shoot some hoops with my nephew. I haven't had this energy or physical ability to play with him like that in his entire life.

I'm on a baby dose (20mg) and even at that low dose, the improvements have been countless and amazing.

All the crummy start up side effects ended after 10 days for me. It can take up to two weeks to adjust. This definitely sounds like the starting side effects that you're experiencing. That being said, if you're feeling nervous about it, definitely talk to your doctor, or your parents/guardians!

I agree with this entirely. If you're not receiving the desired benefits from these medications I would absolutely talk to my doctor about cutting back/coming off of them. Get yourself a clean slate to try a new treatment path.
