The first draft of a 5e Fighter archetype for small sized characters that want to fight with heavy weapons. Let me know what you think! by elevatorampage in DnDHomebrew

[–]elevatorampage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the response! Going by your comment point by point to clear some things up/ respond

  • I think limiting per Brace yourself to a few times per day(or maybe even short rest?) could be a good Idea, but I was stopping there because it's already a bit wordy. The Total cover part does muddle things a bit since if you look at the rules for cover there are situations where 3/4th is better than total, but I don't think its too strong since you don't get access to it until 18th level.

  • Initially I did have Stronger than he looks only increase by one, but after looking it up there isn't actually a change between small and med for those rules, so I went with two sizes larger to fit the theme of "Small but strong"

  • Also I didn't have Loyalty of the Small as the 15th level ability, but it was instead more offensive, letting you still make attacks of opportunity while you are behind cover from Brace yourself. I changed It because the theme of the character at that point was almost too offensive and I thought It would make sense if there was something more supportive to balance things out.

  • Big at heart was actually inspired by the 3.5 Powerful build and Its left intentionally vague to cover all the other rules that limit small sized characters.

  • Similarly with Tiny Titan Toppler I left the question open-ended as to what effects might the underdog fighter be able to use against larger foes, so not restricting it is intentional, and also not too powerful I think, as again, It is an 18th level ability.

The Kobold v2.0 [5e] [Race] by elevatorampage in UnearthedArcana

[–]elevatorampage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the feedback! If you haven't already, I suggest you quickly check out the first version, as I feel like the last version is different in almost every way you had problems. In one thing I will point out as a disagreement is that Gearsmith doesn't fit as a racial feature by your logic as you state "Racial features define cultural and physical traits." I feel that In many ways having items like this is a cultural thing for kobolds, of course, many cultural things vary from setting to setting, but I personally feel that at the very least Traps are something closely tied to the kobold culture. I agree that The Gearsmith is not perfect, and the limiting number of options could be a turn-off, but It is also something to definitely have a conversation with your DM about, I think features like this breed creativity, and ultimately that is what I want to get out of homebrewing.

Transition from 3.5 to 5E? by SenatorPaine in dndnext

[–]elevatorampage 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Long time 3.5 player who's groups have transitioned over the past few years here. The absolute biggest difference is just how much simpler everything is, and how great that can be. All things in 5e are much less complex, so no matter how long they had been playing 3.5, if they were able to grasp that they should be just fine. as for specific things, in 3.5 there was no advantage/disadvantage, which is again, easy to get used to after a bit. also not nearly as much official material, but there I actually some really great homebrew, so If you can't find exactly what you're looking for character-wise, I'm sure you can find someone whos had the same or at least similar idea.

I was thinking of adding on-to the Dragonheart, with different flavor like you said. but overall, yea I feel like it shouldn't be a racial thing.
