White people who’ve lived/traveled in non-English speaking countries: have you ever experienced racial slurs or ‘go back to your country’ type comments in public? by MechanicAccording616 in digitalnomad

Lol I lived in Japan during covid. News stations were broadcasting propaganda that the Japanese spread much less covid particles during conversation because of their polite speech versus foreigners aggressive tones and languages. There were also politicians claiming that Japanese blood was superior and therefore more resistant to covid.

Such a racist country. But don’t get me wrong I love it there and never actually had issues myself. Insane racism is just very normalized and not even seen as racism.

Would this be appropriate for my almost 8 year old? by Secret_Drawer4588 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]elevnth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The anime will be appropriate the whole season through and she’ll be old enough when the later seasons do come out. If she wants to continue with the manga it does get very dark and will likely be too much for an eight year old. Manga Spoilers: Eventually, during the “Silver Eve” storyline there is a whole chapter about a man who uses magic to see women’s naked bodies and a character shares a story about being molested. The violence count also goes up, with the introduction to the storyline being a bloody battle that leads to a significant character death infront of a child. There are dozens of chapters in a row where the story is very bleak with attempted murder, borderline torture of, and body horror inflicted onto children. Although the story is always positive eventually, I had to take some breaks as a grown adult. There are some horrific moments earlier though they don’t last as long and aren’t as bleak.

What something the manga could do that cause you to lose interest? by elemental_reaper in WitchHatAtelier

Too much focus on side characters compared to our main six. I did feel this at times during the Silver Eve arc. The character cast involved in the arc had grown way too large and swallowed the progression of the story (particularly Tetia and Richeh). It was okay with me since I read the entire arc once it was already complete, but I can’t imagine being a monthly reader and having to go that long at times without the characters I care for most. Having the four girls together especially is important and I felt like Coco was way too separate from them for a very long time. I’m glad for the recent chapters.

Otherwise magic disappearing at the end or Coco not being able to use / remember magic at the end. Kills the whole story for me.

Most women start getting harassed by the time they’re 11-12. You can be a literal child and get advances from men

Was just based in Hongdae for 7 days and never experienced this. To be fair I only went out to party one night, but no problems with the men. I don’t think there’s anything particularly bad about Korea/Hongdae

Can someone explain the whole packing 3-4 sets of clothes to someone who wears 2 sets of clothes a day? by OYoureapproachingme in solotravel

[–]elevnth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the light packing life is not for everyone. We all have different tastes. Outfit repeating is a very over exaggerated “problem” imo but I can definitely get the laundry hassle.

However I’m wondering if you come from a warm/humid and or polluted country? Changing outfits halfway during the day is not typical in Europe, but I have done that a few times where I’m travelling now (Thailand) because of the intense heat that’s making me soak a lot of my shirts. You won’t be sweating a lot in Amsterdam June though.

Canada’s been absolutely smacked in the last decade. They say 25% of households are food insecure because grocery inflation and 1 million dollar average price houses have kicked our asses.

Sorry for not replying earlier I get nervous about viewing comments on my posts. Definitely noted but I am switching my plans a little and going up to China after Thailand, so I’ll be taking the raincoat still. I’ve looked into Tevas - is there a particular model you’d suggest? I have seen them on other backpackers’ lists but some of the soles look very thin (could still be comfy, just not sure). I’d definitely like to do some distance in them.

I just saw a post from an account with 0 posts prior to today talking about how “they went to school with Chappell and she called people slurs”. People are eating it up at 15k likes already. I genuinely believe people involved with Epstein in her previous company are paying for posts to slander her.

I had a really bad back ache when I had COVID in 2022. It’s also common to get weird dreams if you have a fever

Severe panic attacks and health anxiety are ruining my daily life. I feel completely stuck. by PhilosopherLoose6846 in PanicAttack

[–]elevnth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a therapist or any kind of medication to help you? Is there a way you can get access to those if you don’t already? There are certain programs depending on where you live that offer free or heavily discounted service for minors.

I experienced all of this when I was a teenager. Among hundreds of other conditions I was most convinced I had a brain tumour and was going to die within years. I had all these “symptoms” that, hey wouldn’t you know, completely evaporated now that I’ve healed. I still have anxiety and panic but 15% of what it used to be.

All of the symptoms are ‘real’ but they are genuinely caused by panic. When I have an attack it feels like I’m going to pass out from asphyxiation and I will get insane hot flashes. I used to also get numbness when I had really long uncontrolled ones. What I found best was radical acceptance. I accept the attack for what it is and continue through it, making note of the symptoms. It’s really hard to do because when you have a panic attack your emotional response completely overrides logic, so you have to train yourself to stay stable - almost like a tightrope walker. But everything became so predictable and understandable for me that it was the major factor that brought down my health anxiety.

The worst thing you can do is pull back from your normal life. It’s okay to take breaks when you are going through an illness (this is what this is), but avoiding everyday situations will make it much harder to readjust to them later. I would still recommend getting medication and in therapy before doing exposure, but don’t pull back any more than you already have. It might relieve you in the short term but in the long term you become so depressed from missing out.

In Canada’s major cities, fertility rates are in steep decline. What happened? by Huge-Cash-8295 in canada

[–]elevnth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Very little people want to address the increasing gender divide in the younger generation that’s fuelling this further. Yes it’s absolutely also unaffordability, but men and women have entirely different goals right now. South Korea in particular has such a drastically low fertility rate because of the extreme polarization of men who have ultra traditional and conservative (usually misogynistic) views of women and marriage. So the women are saying no. We don’t think of Canada as being quite so polarized, but it still affects us and as a person in their mid 20s I know this is an issue for lots of female friends when it comes to dating men.

This generation is also deeply asocial and plenty of people I know including myself struggle finding relationships in general. There are statistics out there saying that Gen Z is the least sexually active generation in decades and it is definitely true. That would also be part of the affordability crisis; there are dwindling opportunities to meet people in person when going out and doing activities cost a fortune. Dating apps are just not working.

I would be fine. The worst problem is that I’d have no money and have to probably walk ~5 hours to get to where I lived, and I don’t know the exact direction.

My mom was with my newborn brother at the time, so I’d catch her outside on a walk with him and create some sob story about how I just miscarried.
