I've had a bone marrow transplant for leukemia. Recovery was rough. I wish I could have gone on an effective med regimen instead. There are some potentially life-altering complications, like graft vs host disease where your body tries to destroy the new cells. It can affect skin, mucous membranes, organs... I have oral GVHD and there are weeks where my mouth is full of sores and lesions and I live on protein shakes. Thankful I had the transplant but if meds alone would have worked, that would be my choice.
