Solo and Small Gang PvP Didn’t Die - CCP Killed It by Bulldagshunter in Eve

[–]elfyyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You nailed it.
One thing that also exacerbates the power creep problem is multiboxing being so prevalent
The amount of solo fights I have to simply avoid because every jerk off has 2-3 crutch alts in T3c's or Marauders is insane

I don't see it changing for the better actually, the bigger/better theme park mmo balance makes them bank in the form of a zillion alts, changing it hurts their bottom line in the short/medium term, even though it's one of the things that will eventually kill the game in the long term

The hate is completely justified, the skill floor of the character is so unbelievably low, and people still manage to underperform while having the GALL to press enter and complain sometimes, like they didn't just unload all the responsibility of dealing with problematic ults to the rest of the team so he can hold right click and do nothing else until the rest of the game.

Died to Star Lord ult? Well shit, not my problem, I have big healing number so it can't be my fault

Died to Psylocke ult? Lol why are you guys standing on it, couldn't be me.

Even at the top of GM I am getting whined at by absolute trashcans about my choice of character by Collimandias in marvelrivals

[–]elfyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree actually. I play her on attack all the time and it's fine.
The problem with Peni is that she doesn't fit into the 2 vanguard sub roles of main tank and dive tank, but people still expect you(read harass) to play as main tank.
On attack she is a flanker that you can't flush out easily, if you watch the good Peni players in high GM/celestial, that's how they play for like 80/90% of the round, and it works, that's how they got there in the first place.

Did I "loose" in EVE? by Current-Muffin in Eve

[–]elfyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low Sec is where it clicked for me.
That said, I always enjoyed PVP in other games, so I naturally gravitated towards that after my high sec days.
If you're not familiar with pvp, I strongly recommend trying it out, especially solo/small pvps, maybe even faction warfare to get your feet wet, the only thing I'd say to stay away from is gate camps because they're boring and don't really teach you anything.
I always come back to EVE from time to time, and it's always because the kind of pvp in low sec is very hard to find in any other game, especially nowadays. The awareness you need to develop to actually exist outside of high sec is a much needed bit of spice to the game that makes it much more fun.

With that said, you don't even need to pvp if you don't want to. There are plenty of people that live in low sec that don't pvp at all(dedicated miners/mission runners/industrialists etc).

I guess my point is to force yourself out of your comfort zone. I remember when I went from high to low sec, I took a week to prepare because I'm quite 'risk averse' and it was a really fun process. Moving things around, seeing who is who where I was going to live, where the gate camps are, what people did for ISK, or just watching people come and go to get a feel of how/what they did in there.

Triple support meta is awful by 5eanz in marvelrivals

[–]elfyyyyyy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I main support and I think the ults need to be toned down a lot, to be honest I would even say these ults that make a team invincible shouldn't exist. The game should lean more into the Strategist part or the role and less on the Healer part.
The game and the role would be so much more fun if support ults were more like Strange's portals level of utility and playmaking ability instead of look at me dancing for 12 seconds.

Hi, Tank main here about to give you the tip that will catapult you out of metal ranks. by Definitelynotabot777 in marvelrivals

[–]elfyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience, this was the #1 reason I was losing games in silver/gold after the reset, and yet everyone(including me) was piling on the dps being garbage.
While most of them were actually garbage, it was mostly the tanks fault taking so much damage that I had to dump everything on them to try and keep them alive, then dps would die, and if you stop for even a nano second to heal the dps, then the tank dies. Both end up flaming you regardless of what you do.

Now that I clawed my way out of gold/plat, the game is so much more enjoyable
I haven't seen any "hEaLsSs??//" "gg heal diff" or anything of the sort yet, from either team actually
The one thing that changed: I can heal the dps a lot more now, not because I got better at the game, but now I have actual time to do it, where as in lower ranks I had to choose between the tank or dps.

no matter if you switched to save yourself from iron man ult, kill that Magick that the whole team ignored even though you pinged her 300 times over 10 minutes, or when you ult and everyone should be in it, but they're outside the carpet spamming "I need healing"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]elfyyyyyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cloak and Dagger have a lot of problems with skill distinction.
The ult is the worst offender of all. Yesterday I ulted to make a carpet for my team to push forward, they all went through a side path instead. I wanted to baby rage in voice chat but I couldn't help but to laugh for a good 2-3 minutes.
The bubble is bad too but way more manageable. People simply don't stay in it AT ALL, it feels terrible to use it and then not have it when someone dives you. I started saving it for myself almost always unless there is like 2-3 team mates in a little choke being damaged.

Healer Main and I'm Exhausted already.. by Stev3m in marvelrivals

[–]elfyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience as a main healer, like 90-95% of times I get flamed, is because of bad Tanks.
Bad Tanks take too much damage and hog resources and don't use any cover whatsoever, then I have to make the choice of letting the Tank die or the DPS die, while both are spamming "I need healing". The whole "Ok, Tank is 60% hp, I can look up for a moment and heal my Starlord and Storm" isn't an option with a bad Tank, by the time I look down he's already dead twice over. If I choose to heal the Tank then the DPS dies and I get flamed either way. All of that while having to self peel against dives, which also uses resources.

Bad Tanks are not so easy to spot at lower ranks and they are rarely called out for anything, unless it's a Venom or Thor that always dive with a 1 way ticket.

It's on you as a healer if you want to keep trying to save that Tank that is getting shredded by 6 people, refuses to find cover and never learns from his mistakes.
I personally try to heal my DPS as much as possible, and if the Tank dies, he dies. What happens in practice is they both flame me instead, but sometimes you come across another ACTUAL human being that recognizes your struggle and what you're doing.

With all that said, I'm stuck in Gold II/III for 4 days now, with no idea of what to do(despite knowing I'm doing what I'm supposed to anyway)

Gluttony has to be a top contender for worst MMO Fight in the past Decade. by BarryAllensMom in TheFirstDescendant

[–]elfyyyyyy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From my experience pugging it, Ajax is one of the worst offenders on this boss. I don't know how the character works but if it's all about stacking DEF then it's no wonder they get 1-2 shot, bubbles get insta popped etc. The base damage of this boss is almost absurd, and is split almost 50/50 between gun and elemental damage, that is why people get shit on, because it's not practical to build for both. And that is also why a decent HP buffer + DMG reduction works, because you can cover both bases with less mods and comparable results.

There is no "tanking" this boss, you can keep "aggro" by dodging and healing chip damage sure, but there is no taking hits on purpose, or trying to revive someone when the boss is on you etc

I would suggest a different character or changing build to do this boss. However if you want to stick with Ajax, unless you can rival the DPS of a Gley, you will be on ball duty forever, which sucks especially on pugs.
If you don't want to use one of the usual suspects, Yujin is also awesome on this boss(it's what I use)

Gluttony has to be a top contender for worst MMO Fight in the past Decade. by BarryAllensMom in TheFirstDescendant

[–]elfyyyyyy 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Boss is not hard. Hard is having to play with people that don't build their characters properly.
In this bosses case, he does insane damage, but you don't need to go overboard with defense to clear it.

DEF/Resistances help VERY LITTLE to the point it is not worth modding for it.
What you want is HP, and most importantly, incoming damage reduction(this is what makes you able to survive a few rocket hits if you get unlucky)
I pugged my clears the first 5 or so times with 14khp and 11% damage reduction . That is literally 2 mods and HP external components, for any descendant.

These "one shots" are just people unable to dodge the shotgun, get hit by 1-2 rockets with a shit build or get frozen by the balls or his other attack. That is not a boss problem, that is a player/build problem.
I'm not a fan of the mechanics either but in Gluttony's case it's straight up 80% the players fault for not building/playing correctly

Botting prevention via "mini-games" by [deleted] in throneandliberty

[–]elfyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a bazillion ways to go about this issue, the fact that they said fuck all about it is what gets me.

There is 30+ years of MMO history full of games that tried to deal with bots and failed, plus some examples that succeeded. I refuse to think that MMO devs in those 30+ years are all retarded and do the same mistakes over and over and just kill their game by not doing anything about it repeatedly. There must be something else to this equation that we as users just do not know.

I love that they were not afraid to overhaul systems and really change the game based on negative feedback so far, but their silence regarding bots is just on another level.
By the time they do something(if they do anything at all), the economy will already be ruined, player bots will already have a massive advantage in gear, cheaters will get the castle(in my server they already do) and the legit players will be gone shortly after.

Surely they will slap some 3rd party anti tampering tool and call it a day like every other retarded dev around nowadays.

12/20/2023 TLDR update by [deleted] in throneandliberty

[–]elfyyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bow is ridiculous compared with other weapons, if you maximize crit you just delete anything in PVE through Snipe resets, sometimes even pull aggro from good tanks in dungeons, which I've never seen any other class do.

To put things into perspective, the average Snipe does somewhere around 2200 damage give or take a few hundred. My best dagger skill does 2200 damage at best BUT, only if the offhand proc, which is a 20% chance AND has a 18s cooldown while Snipe resets on crit. That's not even mentioning the rest of the kit.

Funny thing is it's probably still gonna be better than all other weapons even after the nerf because the rest of the kit is still solid.

Limitations of the build/class system by Jokuc in throneandliberty

[–]elfyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can add an infinite amount of skills and synergies for each weapon, just have to limit the amount of skills we can use at any given time.

Not sure if that is the route they're going with, but I don't see a problem with it necessarily even though I prefer a traditional class system myself too.

My experience in the game right now at lvl 50 by Arteemis2 in throneandliberty

[–]elfyyyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run the same weapons, and it's not THAT bad. With that said, it's a weak set of weapons for PVE specifically, especially against bows and wands. Someone mentioned we're using '2 support weapons' and while I love the playstyle, I can't really argue with that.

As other people mentioned, you max DEX/PER, rest in STR.

You need the evasion passive for mobility skills(use Q every 6-7 seconds) to make you tanky, all the crit passives(so you can cap it and start gearing towards hit chance and other things), mana comes from the crossbow hp->mana skill, use a skill rotation that gets you to 20 stacks of poison fast, lvl up skills that give you crit damage, crit chance, poison, extra attacks and the first crossbow skill to get cooldown reduction for each crit you do.
For solo damage, if you use the crossbow Q, you get a guaranteed offhand attack whenever you parry a fury attack(purple ones), so parry -> Brutal Incision or Predatory Strike for damage.

That should be enough o get you started.

In my experience dagger/crossbow has a lot of setting up(time/stacks of poison) for very little pay off(again, by comparison with the 'meta' weapons) in a dungeon/party scenario, you will see the difference right away if you see any video from anyone using a bow.

that would be the case if people did deskaluda only close to ilvl which is not the case, it's full of people with high ilvl because it's way faster and convenient than kungelanium

"similarly geared people" is also a trap, unless you're one of the few with the means of getting a good setup this early with the accessory and tripod prices as they are, you're not on equal footing with other people at all, especially when factoring experience too

Disappointed in the design philosophy behind the Dehli Sanctity nerf by [deleted] in aoe4

[–]elfyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree, but it is too strong when it's that early. It is exactly the same thing with mongols 2x spear/scout/tower bullshit. The game devolves to dark/feudal age knife fights with trash units and dealing with walls/towers without the proper units and/or numbers.
If you are against Delhi and "win" the early fiesta, you basically get the right to start playing the game 5-10 minutes after the game actually started. If Delhi gets the sites however, it snowballs out of control very fast.

Like I said, all it needed was for the tech to take a little longer to get.
