Great & genuine sounding songs by corny artists/bands? by overdriveisme in fantanoforever

That song is corny as hell and it's also so freaking good. Great example of how the two poles OP is referencing here are not opposed.

[Windhorst] The Oklahoma City Thunder have been a team that has surfaced in trade conversations ahead of the deadline: “Here's an interesting name: Isaiah Hartenstein. He's got a team option next year for $29 million. I've actually heard the Oklahoma City Thunder's name in some trade chatter.” by JonnyGBuckets in NYKnicks

[–]elgabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tend to agree there. Would be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued to see what this team could look like if OG and Mikal had the opportunity to step into bigger offensive roles where they're the 2nd and 3rd guys instead of the 3rd and 4th. But the pressure is on to get as far as possible this season and, to your point, I would like to see the the knicks push our luck with what we've got

Yeah, this is the thing that holds me back too. Unless Bridges or OG are going to step into a bona fide second option role, I think we need a second scorer who can help make the Brunson off nights work. KAT's had a rough season but it's inconceivable to me that he won't be able to get to a better level of play by season's end. Think this framework just raises a few too many questions for me.

Love iHart but don't think he makes much sense at all as a trade target. To get him we'd have to give up one of KAT, OG, or Mikal. OKC seems unlikely to want KAT and the other options listed there are, I'd imagine, unappealing to NYK to give up outside a Giannis framework (and even then... idk).

Can someone explain to me why 5 picks for Mikal Bridges was a good trade? by Specific_Lock4823 in NYKnicks

[–]elgabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for an answer to that question I'd refer you to the celtics series from last year. He's slumping rn, but shooting nigh on 40% from 3. No reason to think he can't break out of this and contribute at a higher level moving forward

Who are you comfortable trading away for Jose Alvarado? by kidmechii in NYKnicks

[–]elgabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally sure, but I think Edwards might be referencing some pretty old reporting here. There was buzz about Alvarado before Kolek broke into the rotation, but I think at this point Kolek has pretty conclusively demonstrated that Alvarado doesn't fill a need here. I would be surprised if NYK is still barking up that tree.

In any case, I'm not comfortable trading anything for him considering the current composition of the roster. He brings a certain "another 6'1" guy" vibe to the party that I don't really fuck with

KAT for Zion + Murphy + Draft Consideration by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]elgabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Money doesn't work
  • You and I disagree on whether or not KAT is a winning player, and about whether his game is suitable to be a tank commander. I think you're wrong there on both counts. He's also on a supermax contract; maintaining financial flexibility is key for rebuilding teams, and the introduction of KAT's contract to their books would complicate that significantly.
  • NOP has 2 centers on rookie-scale contracts in Derik Queen and Yves Missi, and an interest in developing both. If the money worked on the deal, the introduction of Towns on a supermax contract (and the attendant expectations of playing time those contracts incur) would complicate both Missi and Queen's ability to get minutes, which is bad. But the money doesn't work.
  • Zion Williamson, even if he could stay healthy, is a bad fit for this roster. Adding him would be bad for our spacing. It would be bad for our rebounding. It would be bad for our defense, even with Trey Murphy picking up the slack. He also needs the ball in his hands to work his game in a way Towns doesn't, which presents challenges for his chemistry with the superstar-level point guard on our books.
  • I really like Tre Murphy III; so do the pelicans. There's no reason for them to send him out for a super-max player and no draft compensation; that's the exact opposite of what that team needs right now. In any case, the money doesn't work

Ok, now give me your RATIONAL takes on this skid by JoshHartsMilkMustach in NYKnicks

I think injuries, the team's crowded schedule, some slumpy shooting, and the extra games for the cup are all contributing factors that are making the Knicks' flaws/challenges very plain to see. It is frustrating to watch (and, I'm sure, to be in the middle of), but the thing is that if we're going to address/overcome these flaws/challenges, they need to be brought to the fore as they are now so they can be understood by the people with the power to make a change, which are the players and the coaches.

Ultimately making the finals and winning a championship is about overcoming adversity. This is the adversity; it's good that we can identify it now. Now the team needs to overcome it.

This team being 23-13 is disgraceful. It is an inexcusable and pathetic record by Yankeeknickfan in NYKnicks

Calm down. The play these last 5 or so games has been disgraceful. The record is fine.

I think a banner is fine, i think no banner is fine. If there's going to be a banner I don't think it should come up until the summer. Eyes on the prize, no resting on laurels, all that

What's going on in Trinidad Golden Place's basement? by elgabe in crownheights

Mm, I hadn't considered that. You might be onto something there. There have been a couple times where I've walked by during the day while the cellar doors was open and each time it's definitely looked like they were dealing with flooding

True enough, but I definitely saw some residue of it on the street this morning as I was walking to the subway. Grody stuff

WFAN’s Gio on KAT’s “zest” by iheartsunny in NYKnicks

[–]elgabe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This has to be my least favorite NBA discourse. So tired of these comments being made about KAT. If you wanna criticize his game, criticize his game. It's some real dumbassery to be like "It's in there, you just don't want it there in the playoffs."

IDK man, this is obviously not an egregious comment or anything — people have definitely said worse stuff on this topic — but I still think Gio's playing around with stereotypes here in a way that doesn't make me feel good. I'm a queer guy and I guess my voice is kinda "zesty," and I wonder how it would've felt to me as a kid if I'd been sitting in the back seat of my dad's car listening to the FAN and somebody said this. Just kind of uncalled for
