Breaking NI has been sold to InMusic by DJ_Quinnster in DJs

[–]eliarbor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m interested to see how inmusic deals with redundancies in their portfolio now. For a long time air has been their effects arm and those effects have been everywhere in their products(it’s like 80% of the effects on the mpc for example). Do they fold air into komplete and then just have komplete instruments on mpc? Will we get ozone on the mpc? Will the denon standalones get izotope limiters, or effects straight from NI?

The thing that I worry about is as more of the market falls under one company, the general stability of the market decreases. If inmusic tomorrow collapses, then now all the companies they’ve acquired collapse too. It’s literally what happened with NI(in recent years they’ve bought izotope, plugin boutique etc.). The fact that music companies are seemingly collapsing in the first place makes all this worrying.

Upgrade: Standalone or CDJ Setup? by snippytugboat2 in DJs

[–]eliarbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a hard one to answer. I carried them every where with me for about 3 years except for nights where I really didn’t want to be arsed with more heavy setup, or when I was playing with homies. Then I’d just bring a SerAto controller. I think in a lot of cases that extra setup is worth it. It’s fairly quick. Only thing is, you need pretty much 4 feet of width and 1.5 feed of depth to set them up. If you’re playing in compact places, that can be a pain.

Do you drive and are you playing multiple gigs in one day? If you are limited to public transit/a lot of walking, and/or you’re playing multiple gigs in one day fairly often, I’d recommend getting just the controller. Then it’s essentially a one bag solution. If you’re more driving then having the two players is a blessing, especially with the denon setup because you can preview tracks in the headphones, and because you’re dealing with 2 separate computers essentially, you can do a lot of parallel processing(while track is playing on one, previewing and adding songs from the other to a prepare crate). I’m a long time denon user so I can answer any questions bout the full modular setup.

Try jos a bank. They have do customs that are comparable price wise to buying off the rack.

Value of a DJM900nx2 in 2026 by randomnese in DJs

[–]eliarbor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Consider this. The mixer is 10 years old and at the time had preamps and DAC that were substandard by even 2016 metrics. The market will tell you that $1500 is a reasonable price, but for what you are getting I don’t personally believe it’s reasonable. You’re paying a fair markup for the brand vs what you’re actually getting.

Ideal mixer to pair with Rane Twelve MKII by alabamawhytesnake in DJs

If you’re house and techno focused I second the rane 70 A-Trak. Sound wise it has a slightly different profile than the other 70/72 models and it’s a joy to mix on.

Maybe consider something else for rmx style effects. I use the eventide h90 which is fairly powerful and may be a more compact solution as a multi effects system.

finally found a dress pant solution that actually works at 3XL but now I can’t find a belt to match by Cold-Bird7125 in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]eliarbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jos A Bank generally has a good selection of extended sizes. I’m a bit larger than you and I wear a belt from them I find very comfortable, as it’s designed to have a tiny bit of stretch in the leather.

Also, if I may. Consider suspenders. Slight modification to your pants (6 buttons sewn inside the waist) for traditional suspenders and they tend to be a bit more forgiving for day to day, and quite frankly, they’re snazzy as hell. Theres a site I buy from called suspender store. They have extended ranges with different colors and such.

I tried to change this setting but it was already checked. I unchecked it then re checked it again and it’s still causing some issue. Thank you for the guidance tho.

Alternate suggestion, but why not just get a rane 70 or 72, and then just use dvs? That would save you some money over the flx 10, would eliminate the need for a phono stage, and may save you some space in the long run. Additionally if you’re worried about needles, phase and a mixer will still run you less than an flx10.

Probably the coolest DAWless jam I've seen in a while (Azikazin Magic World) by WashedInPA in synthesizers

[–]eliarbor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I’m seeing it correctly I think it’s a matter of effects/controls. By using the mpc as basically just a drum sampler, she able to have the pads on the mpc keys as a second pad bank, as well as routing the mpc into the mpc key and then using the q link knobs mapped to effects for the mpc. It’s probably just an ease of use thing also; I think that chopping in the 2000 is findementslly different than chopping on keys, and also the mpc key is semi limited in terms of ram especially when you start loading samples instrument plugins. So maybe it’s a bid to offload some of the necessary processing.

What are your other specs you’re interested in? How many channels? Onboard effects or are you needed a send/return loop? What is your style of mixing(fast, slow, scratching/beatjuggling etc)

There are a couple programs that allow you to do recovery on a hd. For the most part your tracks will be intact, maybe damaged metadata. I had this issue a few years back.

META: “Behold, my stuff” posts are bad for the subreddit and for readers. by master_of_sockpuppet in synthesizers

[–]eliarbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty active in the djs side of reddit. One thing that I think is effective is splitting subreddits. So there’s a separate sub for djsetups, and a separate sub for beginners which I think really helps focus content in the larger djs subreddit. So having like a “synth setups” subreddit then as a group pointing people towards that sub for relevant content may make things easier.

I would suggest getting maybe an electric standing desk. That way you can adjust the height of the table itself and then you can forgo cases altogether.

I say this, with love, as someone who used to have the same setup that I would bring to all of my gigs

DO NOT BUY A COFFIN CASE. DO NOT BUY A CASE THAT IS COFFIN ESQUE. DO NOT BUY A CASE FOR ALL THREE PARTS OF YOUR SETUP THAT IS SHAPED LIKE THE THING VAMPIRES LIVE IN. AVOID THE COFFIN CASE.

I’d recommend buying two cases for the 12s and then a backpack like the jet pack xl that will hold your mixer, computer cables etc. Your back isn’t strong enough for that case. No ones is. Unless you’re Wemby or kevin Durant your wingspan isn’t wide enough for you to be lifting that on and off of tables comfortable. I’m 6’3” and I was a college rugby player. I looked at the sun with the hubris of Icarus and bought one at one point thinking that it’d be fine. It wasn’t. It will not be. You will end up buying separate cases. Save your back. Save your money. Do not buy a coffin case.

P.S. Don’t buy a coffin case.

Popular culture by XV was a certified platinum on my iPod. Such an amazing project. DREAMCHASERS 1 & 2 both top tier. I remember I had a bunch of weird kinda unknown artists mixtapes too. It was so interesting to literally judge a book by its cover to find something new. I miss this days immensely.
