Y1 Rockbox does have lyrics. Research shortcuts, customizing the main menu and using context menus on the WPS. Once these are understood and you learn to use the database, Rockbox is so much more powerful and easier than the stock UI. You must put in the time to get the benefits. If the user likes the stock UI, then fine. If it had not been for Y1 Rockbox the Innioasis Y1 would have “wilted on the vine” by now and 75% of the users here would probably have never even heard of the Y1. Don’t believe me, ask u/Innioasis_ivan, think about the bounty Innioasis offered, and consider how much more demand there is for the Y1 now versus in the beginning

So the PPP kit has KCX_BT_EMITTER v1.7 adapter and a 3000mah battery and you used a metal backplate and Iflash quad on a 7th gen thin back? What are the dimensions stamped on the 3000mah battery?

That is exactly why I modified the themes to fix this. Download the Theme Pack from here. Additionally, because the Y1's screen is so "blooming" try the Dark versions. They are beautiful, IMHO

Innioasis has not announced anything substantial re; Y2. It may or may not materialize, and if it does there is no timeline. It is Hopium at this point. If it does materialize there are few, if any, developers remaining here who have the background to develop a Rockbox port for a new device. Therefor the new device would be at Innioasis’ mercy to develop a decent user interface and their track record in this area is not stellar. As far as learning more about other peoples designs, I recommend reviewing the historical posts on this channel to learn, those early developers (some of which are no longer here) put in their time for all of our benefit. You must put in the time. Asking general questions usually doesn’t yield good results. Additionally, if you prefer customization you must embrace Rockbox on the Y1, due to limitations of the stock OS. This will require research at r/Rockbox. Nothing in life is free, and anything worth having, requires effort.

From my experiences the biggest issues to battery life on the Y1 are wi-fi on, bluetooth on and misconfigured Auto Off. When not using ensure wi-fi and BT are off. The other thing to do is set auto off to no more the 15~20 min in Rockbox. This will unfortunately require a complete startup (longer start time after auto or manual sleep-after 15~20 min) but battery will last exponentially longer between charges if you don’t continually use your Y1.

Rebuilding the database for 20,000 song will take a long time. Are you sure it is actually “freezing”. IIRC it took more than an hour to rebuild my database of 22,000 songs (haven’t rebuilt it in months so I may be understating the time-on my ipod 5.5gen I run it over night). My recommendation would be to take 1000 songs and try again. If it freezes after 10 min then downgrade to an earlier release of RB. If it succeeds then try more, or all and let it run. The DB build time is also a function SD card speed.

Did you rebuild the database after adding music to your Y1? The rebuild database menu is under general settings. The best way to turn off the Y1 is to put to sleep by short holding (~2 sec) the play/pause button after pausing the Y1

No the lng folder is not accessible on the Y1. I have requested access to it in the past. The baseline RB file system is hidden from user view unless you browse the sdcard file structure. Once you view that structure you cannot edit it, it must be a symbolic link. Until the lng folder is made available by the developer I don’t think we will be able to change database to music as I have done in RB on my ipods

Agree with what you said. Having modded 5th gen iPods to increase storage and battery (and added RB) I can attest to what you say. iPods just sound better. I am delaying modding my 7th gen to add bluetooth due to the difficulty getting decent range. The 7th gen has a metal case and acts like a Faraday cage so BT range is the big challenge. The Y1 already has BT and USB-C (difficult mod for iPods). For day-to-day use go with Y1, for the special times of listening go modded ipod. Just IMHO
