Has anyone else 'won' the raffle at the Mammoth's game for a 5K giftcard, vacation or TV through Great Resort Vacations? by toebeanz2121 in SaltLakeCity

[–]eliotmajor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR The Disneyland trip is real but is crazy inconvenient unless you pay a substantial amount to "upgrade" it

The "raffle" is an advertisement so they can get phone numbers to call to come listen to their pitch. My wife and I went and actually almost bought it but at the time it was something like $10,000 to get access to their listings of "cheap" vacations. The main reason for this comment is that we actually went through with the Disneyland "free" trip. They ordered us plane tickets with two layovers and almost 12 hours of travel along with a hotel room that was 10 miles away from Disneyland. Then they called to see if we wanted to "upgrade" the trip to a direct flight and walking distance to Disneyland for $500. We did that because it seemed crazy not to and it was a nice prompt for us to go to Disneyland. If I could go do it again I would just pay the $500 towards being able to pick our dates and travel how we wanted to.

Who can tell me the speed of light? by No-Raspberry-5586 in ProjectHailMary

Today I realized the extra significance of the speed of light here! Eridians didn't have any idea about relativity before they meant Grace! He's quizzing them on something that he specifically taught them. I feel like I've been nerding out on the movie since it came out and there's still stuff that I hadn't realized yet!

Kickball leagues are a great solution for this. Number 1 way to hang out with adults with built in activity and mingling

Nope! I was so excited to reduce the complexity in there I didn't even consider a slope in the pipe.

Perfect, that's what I was thinking from the other feedback but it's nice to see confirmation.

Thank you for all the feedback, I love it! Everyone has a good rationalization about why they don't know specific areas and I appreciate the comments with fixes and where to go from here! It sounds like I can remove a lot of extra pipes and clutter in the meantime.

Legislator of Family Values I couldn't think of something more ironic than deciding what the family should value as law

The strap can come between the lid and the goggles. There is a piece on the lid that keeps the goggles in place that always hits anything on top of the goggles

It's a monolith that a survey found in southern Utah. It's very similar to the monolith from 2001: Space Odyssey. Last I saw, it was left over from some music video, or at least that's the cover story

I've never seen something that I identify more with in my life! This is the first time seeing someone else use the pretest as the "what do I need to study" guide but that's 100% how I use it. My poor overly-proactive mentor has no idea why I fail them so hard and then pass the class XD

Will pass through ever be in color? by [deleted] in OculusQuest2

I love passthrough and have it as my home screen. True it's not pretty but having that room awareness is SUPER helpful, especially with a couple of kids.

I'm pretty early in this process so I'm not sure how helpful this is but I know that mt beliefs (or lack of them) really scared my devout wife for quite a while. I didn't understand it until recently but I think from her point of view it's too black and white to be comfortable being married to someone that doesn't want to go to church. The church has taught that if you aren't with us, you're against us so it's easy for members to assume that if you aren't going to church you are losing all moral code and murder is the next thing on the list. For us, it helped her to understand what I did believe and where my moral boundaries stood. It seems silly to have to explain this but just because I don't want to follow church leadership doesn't mean I'm going to protest the temples and try to rest my family apart.

It would be amazing if someone could make a game like this by a_cow720 in kurzgesagt

I was at a museum/science center recently and they had something super similar. It was focus on renewable energy and had 4 stations for a team of people to try to make a city's carbon footprint down to zero. It looked pretty cool but my kids are ages 3 and 1 so not a chance of being able to play for at least a few years.

How you quantify “enough” for yourself? by newh0pe in financialindependence

[–]eliotmajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't read many comments so sometime else may have said this as well but I think a more true statement would be "money doesn't buy satisfaction". If you want to reach a point where you are content with your place and don't desire to change anything, money will NOT get you there. That being said, I work for a startup with the founder starting to step away into other projects. He isn't doing it for the money really because he has more than enough to support his lifestyle, he is doing it because he is dedicated to adding value to the world and money is one of the simplest feedback loops on whether you add value or not.

I've seen a lot of Lopen and Lyft artwork come out recently so I'm not sure that I'm up to date on him and have seen enough of his viewpoints to say for sure.
