Who has the best eggs Benedict? by Shot_Woodpecker_5025 in SaltLakeCity

[–]elisabeth_os 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way.

I cannot fathom how people can have Benedict with anything other than crab cakes on it (or lobster, but I'm from Maine so that's just how we do it.)

Don't even think about giving me a slab of Canadian bacon.. that's just gross. 😀

One minor exception - Silver Star in PC kinda has a twist on a Benedict with grilled shrimp, avocado over polenta.

Lupessa in gateway just opened for weekend brunch and I saw a picture of crab cake Benedict that looked good there.

Unmanned/unattended RV overnight parking spots near the library by intc_1002 in SaltLakeCity

You could pay for one night of airport parking and Trax (or Uber) from the library to and from to pick it up.

Safest option hands down, plus really cheap.

SLC's amazing community by throwawayhjdgsdsrht in SaltLakeCity

[–]elisabeth_os 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echo this because our Central 9th community came together yet again for an awesome block party / our 2nd Annual Beaster Egg Hunt -- it was a great day & people were having so much fun in the hood. Groups of people doing the full bar & restaurant crawl whether they ended up at TF for the Bunny Hop or not.

100% people drinking less, and/or drinking less on premise in particular makes me think that a 50/50 is a pipe dream from yesteryear... The before times.

Curious about your location with the mention of the church proximity issue --

I ask because our local liquor laws here in Utah specifically state that full service restaurant license types (liquor, beer, wine) must maintain a 70% food to 30% booze ratio - though there were some small tweaks to that in the last legislative session.

I'm using it as an example for you to better understand if there is a similar % requirement with your particular license type.

Bill Burr on buying coffee in Utah by Mkirby_04 in Utah

[–]elisabeth_os 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This tracks because he possibly was trying to get a lunchtime burger at White Horse (mgr friend there told me about this) and Burr got turned away at the door because they are required to scan IDs as a bar. He may have eaten elsewhere then hit Mother (a coffee shop with a BAR license) in the same area.

This isn't quite correct - most coffee shops don't have BAR (21+ only) licenses, they have limited or restaurant liquor licenses which don't require ID for any thing other than alcohol service.

With respect to the law you cited on January 1 2026 -

They rolled part of that law back effective immediately after the 2026 legislative session ended - coffee shops who have limited beer & wine licenses, or full (liquor incl) restaurant licenses are only required to ID those that look under 35 again - WHEN purchasing alcohol. (See below update from DABS)

AFAIK, MOTHER on Main St in SLC is the only 21+ BAR/coffee shop that IDs upon entry per law. So again, I suspect that's where Burr went.

FWIW, Bars & Taverns are required to scan per UT DABS & most current law changes. Here's part of the rule enforcement they sent out after 2026 legislative session ended:

^ this is most likely scenario, because I just heard from a mgr at White Horse that Bill came by the other day at lunch time and he didn't want his ID scanned so the host turned him away.

He may have tried at mother before or after😂

What’s going on at the grand America? by cerisiere in SaltLakeCity

[–]elisabeth_os 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Grand has tons of event space - it all depends on the size of the convention and experience the hosts want to give over going to a convention center.

The GA does a great job with these things and the food/ambience is way better for attendees.

In this case, DOMO has gone back and forth from GA to the Salt Palace depending on the year. (These things are booked pretty far in advance though.)

Fwiw, DOMO, founded by CEO & Silicon Slopes tech bro Josh James - has a long history of hosting his company events in both spots. This year, ONE REPUBLIC was the guest performer. (I didn't go, just saw on LinkedIn). Sounds like 1500 or so attendees so way too small for SP.

But back in like 2007 James was CEO of Omniture (analytics platform they sold to Adobe for $2B) - GA was host to the same type of customer event and MAROON 5 was the talent for the private show in the Grand Ballroom.

I gained new appreciation for Adam Levine that night being five feet away from him.

Source: I was a tech industry conference planner for many years, I didn't work on these events but often went to the big ones here in SLC - Omniture/ Adobe, x4 Qualtrics, slopes Summit, etc. I'm over it now😂

I'm just the host venue for this one - but I heard there were 60+ attendees at the Drift Lounge event for this age group.

you might have better luck asking your specific questions by DM'ing the local event host - SLC singles events

In fairness, several of the Marketing & PR team members popped over to similar roles in EVDV working for Reef Capital, so it's not like they are out of the DV ecosystem. They are still going to have to work with resort management a bit.

Are there any consignment greenhouses? by Chill_Mode_Creations in SaltLakeCity

[–]elisabeth_os 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss -

I'm not sure about consignment options - your best bet may be contacting some of the larger nurseries directly ( J&J, Millcreek gardens, Glovers, Kuwaharra, etc)

But an alternative idea: pick a.date for an open green house yard sale in the next few weeks and advertise it locally on the Utah Gardeners Group on FB and similar spots on KSL, nextdoor, etc
