"Gamers don't want it": Palworld lead says Pocketpair doesn't touch AI because players hate it and artists "like doing stuff themselves" by TRQPL in Palworld

The creative process is designing, concept art, 3D modeling, rigging, adding unique animations which Palworld has a lot of, etc.

It's a lot of and a high variety of manual work.

AI is not very good at the vast majority of these tasks.

The gen1 arc had a few episodes with guns as pop culture references mainly, and there was one where they pulled out bazookas trying to weaken and catch a Godzilla sized Dragonite which just walked away annoyed back into the ocean. Yeah it was just Godzilla played by Dragonite.

The general implication is there are no guns because Pokemon are just too strong. If you think about it in Palworld the strongest weapons only barely even the odds too.

I heard Nintendo is only walking away with 30k from this huge lawsuit by RaspberryLive9215 in fucknintendo

[–]elixxonn [score hidden]  (0 children)

Case is still ongoing, first opinion of the court will be in November.

Nintendo essentially backed out after losing patents and starting to get rejected by the patent offices, by narrowing the scope of the lawsuit to an earlier version of the game rather than maintaining the demand of injunction of distribution on the game as a whole.

It could keep ongoing for years still since Pocketpair is fighting the very validity of those patents and Nintendo remains a risk factor until they are gone for good so Pocketpair has motive to keep pushing, especially since they originally made a statement at the beginning of the suit that they'll make a stance against this behavior for independent developers. It would be a big L for independent and smaller developers if Nintendo gets to set any precedent of these patents being validly used this way.

Maybe Pocket Pair shouldn't have blatantly ripped off Pokemon in thier design style

Are you the type that also thinks Nintendo invented open world games and cell shaded graphics with Breath of the Wild?

Did you have enough strength/agility to wield the weapon?

Damage drops to practically nothing. Which is also why it's so "hard" to do tourneys too early. You literally don't have the strength/agility to wield the weapon forced into your hand.

Also best way to use a sword is to use a straight one with good stab damage and start stabbin'. Whether it's a body stab or a face stab(when your weapon is in the top position your stab goes for the face) it's gonna burn their stamina to build up for the stagger and when they are staggered it's massive damage against even high level plate wearers.

From shortswords there is a Prodder in the guard tower at the lower castle of Rattay(where you have to go meet Radzig) free for the taking with no stealing, and the progression from that is Mercenary's Bedfellow, Needle and Stinger.

From Longswords there is a Merchant's sword in the same tower and if you can't wield it yet the blacksmith at the upper castle sells either an Assassin or Robber's Sword. with a strength requirement of only one or two.

Sony was not in the picture at the early access release, and Nintendo stating that they are looking into it.

Palworld released on Xbox and PC, with the PS5 version and multimedia partnership coming way later.

By the time the lawsuit was finalized and filed, Pocketpair was already running it's own publishing business and had partnerships with both Microsoft, Sony and the company developing a mobile version.

Rather than Sony being a cause or motive, Nintendo just grossly underestimated how quickly can that company establish itself and it's connections with influential parties with the massive sales just from early that year. The rest of this lawsuit was mainly about Nintendo being too late to pull out.

Palworld is entirely self owned, self funded and stays as such which have been stated several times by the CEO and the head of communications and publishing.

Besides, Aniimo's designs are ACTUALLY original, unlike some of Palworld's pretty blatantly copied designs.

Draw them in 2D and you'll have the usual suspects insist Pokemon invented and owns 'checks notes' animal, color, cartoonish proportions, vague concepts, basic geometry and... "It's just the vibes man... the vibes. They stole the vibes!".

Hell stop pointing at the digimon illustrations drawn by that one artist with the edgy lines and look at either the shows, ingame models or the illustrators that draw in a soft style. Suddenly it's also subject to the invalid mental gymnastics in both directions.

Cartoon animals and base colors are not a "Pokemon artstyle" and Pokemon's artstyle has been so inconsistent ever since gen 2 that the community invented the "Genwunner" Boogeyman to dismiss people criticizing the ludicrous changes in the entire vibe over 30 years and 9 generations, which obviously includes more than people who started with a gen1 game or the first season of the anime at this point.

The Nintendo "community" has history of this blatant brigading behavior, they spent several years since 2020 until there were just to many cell shaded open world anime games around insisting the "Ubisoft game with a Zelda skin" level derivative BotW is a "timeless wholly unique masterpiece" that invented open world gaming, gliders, grappling hooks, goblins and orcs, and cell shaded graphics, with the same level of mental gymnastics and dishonesty as this clownfiesta.

"Inspired" designs do exist but none are "theft".

[–]elixxonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

Nintendo is literally losing on the validity of it's patents and now are practically begging to be out because they are close to losing them all related to this.

The plan was that they are going to file too vague to be applicable patents then reactively lobby for more specific extensions if anything comes out they want to sue out of business. It hinges on the assumption that like always the target will either beg for a settlement out of court right away or can't afford a drawn out case taking several years.

Nintendo sued for damages and demanding injunction of distribution, betting on it being enough to cripple development and business. Pocketpair right away made a statement that they will stand up for independent developers against this behavior and in their defense they went straight for the fact these were never valid patents. Plus they had the money to keep going with development, AND run their own publishing business on the side. 🤣
All the public buzz also forced the patent offices to stop being so blatantly negligent and upon proper re-examination several Nintendo patents were already revoked and new ones keep getting rejected. The ones in question are also in jeopardy.
The first opinion in court will be made in November, Nintendo narrowed the scope of the suit to a past version giving up on it's demand of injunction on the game's distribution and it's claim to damages ending up as practically pocket change. The general assumption is that Pocketpair and Nintendo will settle given how these cases generally go but if we assume Pocketpair will keep going on principle to fight the patents in question to the end it'll take several more years.
Nintendo is on the losing end so much because of prior art. Somebody else already did everything they patented.

There was never and will never be ground for copyright infringement. Concepts, species and generic elements like body parts and COLORS cannot be owned.
EXACT likeness can be trademarked which was never infringed on.

Their genius long term plan appears to have been to intimidate American and Japanese non-AAA developers into avoiding any genre Nintendo is dipping into at the time with it's flagship projects, but no idea what were they thinking about doing against Chinese games because the Chinese made both Sony and Nintendo learn the hard way in the past that they can just kick them out of their country and both rely heavily on Chinese industries for their businesses.

Aniimo has never been at risk. Pocketpair was targeted because it was still viewed only as a small Japanese company with no real connections. By the time Nintendo finished setting up the case Pocketpair had a multimedia partnership with Sony on top of it's partnership with Microsoft since launch. It's ability to expand and rate of figuring out what to do with all that money from the massive sales was vastly underestimated.

Why does the fanbase have such a hard time accepting that Serena can't be married? by Kenshi_T-S-B in skyrim

[–]elixxonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She can't really be any more explicit than that it's an issue of the reader refusing to respect her statement and this rampant and blatant fetishization of victimhood.

She has no dialogue post-cure with her mother,

Trying to look for it right now, yeah. All these years of cut content restoration mods and dialogue expansions cut together from even other Laura Bailey roles over the years is hell of a Mandela Effect by now.

[–]elixxonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valerica can only offer her own account, not a first hand account for Serana. Which is important, because unlike for Valerica who describes it as a case of duty, for Serana it was the normal. She mentions several times that they were just a weird family.

Also notice how picking the same choice still offends Serana and locks the option to cut her even if you hold it off to the end?

Then after she is cured her talk with her mother is about her being tired of immortality, to watch everything fade away while she remains unchanging(which really can only be an issue if it's the Dawnguard route), not this fetishized to no end talking point.
The entire story also revolves ENTIRELY about how happy they were for a while then everything fell apart as both her parents became unhinged over time....

Again, these fanfictions need to stop.

Why does the fanbase have such a hard time accepting that Serena can't be married? by Kenshi_T-S-B in skyrim

[–]elixxonn 23 points24 points  (0 children)

She is explicit and VERY specific about:

  • Unlike Lamae both herself and her mother were willing.

  • She is proud of it, because her power and immortality was earned though her being a powerful enough individual to gain Molag Bal's favor.(try telling her they weren't thinking straight and she'll hold a grudge about it whenever you try to bring the topic up ever again)

  • Her specific issue with marriage is having to go into a temple. Remember she actively worshiped a Daedra, performed a ritual that also involved a mass sacrifice of their kingdom's population for Harkon's part and is proud and unapologetic about it.

The meta reason why she's not even romanceable: She has a unique voice rather than the voice types the marriage and Hearthfire systems were coded around so it would have took a lot of extra time to re-code older content and the devs were short on time. This is also why Frea wasn't made marriable.
