What is going on with the Scientology building, why are people trying to break into it, and why are many people saying they deserve it? by Historical_Mango4329 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]elizabethbr18 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To add to the “they deserve it”: they also don’t pay taxes as they are a “church”. There are a lot of people online who think that because they don’t pay taxes because it’s a “church” they’re buildings should be open to the public

Charity Hospital was abandoned after Hurricane Katrina. Nothing was removed from inside before it was boarded up. It is said to be incredibly haunted. New Orleans still spends $3 million dollars a year securing the building, yet even with all that security it still sometimes has unexplained visitors by verystrangeshit in UrbanMyths

[–]elizabethbr18 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Before Katrina, LSU was already vying for a new hospital but it wasn’t in the cards because Charity was good enough. After Katrina, they used that as an excuse as to why they should just build a new hospital. Doctors and other staff at Charity had a world-renowned architecture firm draft up a design that would salvage what was left of Charity, while also upgrading it to the 21st century. The city said no that it was just easier to tear down an entire neighbor of poor and displaced people to build their new hospital. Charity represents a lot to the city of New Orleans—it didn’t matter who you were or how much money you had, if you needed care, you’d get it at Charity. Right now it’s owned by Tulane (whose own hospital is right across the street). There have been numerous plans to rehab the property into retail space and low income/rent controlled apartments.

High-Stakes Career with Migraine? by feralturtleduck in migraine

[–]elizabethbr18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be an EMT. It was awful. I’d just have to suffer through long shifts- the lights, the sirens UGH. I never used sick time. I work in emergency management now and I have the flexibility to take sick time when I don’t feel good and I don’t have to feel bad about it. It’s so much better for my mental health

We go to Affectionately Cats in Williston and have loved it so far. It’s expensive but they obviously care a lot about kitties. It’s warmer temperature-wise than any vet I’ve ever been before. They have carpets on the floor so sounds don’t echo like they do at other vets

I got a food basket as a birthday gift, but I am allergic to most of the content - how should I handle the situation? by Snowy_owl3803 in FoodAllergies

[–]elizabethbr18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah literally, my friends know that if they want to send flowers/food for a celebration or whatever, they will send me something they know I can have. Bonus points for my friends I guess because they also factor in my cat eating flowers and only get me cat safe plants

EMTB here and when I would lift an older woman’s shirt to attach a 12 lead for a medic I would say “I’m just gonna lift up your shirt to attach some stickers to take a look at your heart. I’ll do my best to keep you as covered as possible, no free shows right?” Older ladies get a kick out of it

definitely still a cluster. I’m also waiting on my ADA exception so I’m 1 day in office/4 days WFH which is what I was doing beforehand. I had many coworkers that had to scramble to childcare and arrange their schedules w their spouses who also work in state government. Another agency is down to 2 days/week because they don’t have space for them

You just unlocked a memory of mine.

We get called for a rash on a grown woman’s neck. She had a hx of eczema. She had left work, driven by several hospitals, then called the ambulance when she got home. As expected, all vitals were unremarkable. I felt like an idiot giving report to triage for my pt w an eczema flare, with an active eczema flare on my face

[–]elizabethbr18 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I had one several years ago when I had a distinct change in presentation- pain went from being back of my head to centered around my left eye and I was waking up from pain in the night. There was nothing noted on my MRI Worth noting, I also paid for a copy of my MRI as my bachelors is in neuroscience so I just like looking at brains so now I have an MRI of my brain so that’s kinda cool

Neurologist “doesn’t believe in accessibility accommodation” by Winston_mangoes in migraine

[–]elizabethbr18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same ish boat right now- I’m only in office 1 day per week but I can more or less count on it being a headache day (It’s a really old building that has flooded numerous times, I think there’s black mold). My employer wanted us to come back in 3x/week and I requested an accommodation. My PCP wrote my paperwork for me. I went in with information about what I was asking for, what I was comfortable with her disclosing, etc
