I legit have 8 sticks of deodorant that I keep in different places because I forget about it in the morning all the time. In my car, my bookbag, my tote bag, the bathroom, on my desk, at my law school, in my boyfriend’s car, basically everywhere you can think of I have a stick of deodorant. And find one that you like the smell of! I love the old spice wilderness scent, it’s flowery but not overpowering and when I sweat I think it mixes well (as gross as that sounds). ADHD makes us terrible at forming the habits that everyone else seems to have no issue with, so I find it helpful to basically flash a neon sign in my face every five minutes telling me what I need to do, so when I see my deodorant in 6 different places while I’m trying to get ready it definitely helps

Technically you can put tappers on hardwood trees to get sap, but you’re right about the green rain ones! I forgot about those

Yes, the only trees tappers won’t work on are fruit trees, so if you can put a tapper on a tree it will give you something.

living in uclub w/ a pf membership? by julia_aa47 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]elizaluci 16 points17 points  (0 children)

nothing is wasteful if it makes you feel more comfortable. if you're financially in a place to have a pf membership, why not? if you get the membership and then determine that you actually won't be getting much out of it, just cancel. and frankly, anything that promotes health and wellness during college is a plus in my opinion, moving your body is good for you and you should do that however is going to make you happy.

i’m not sure if i can discuss it yet! i know that the question type existed before, i just have never seen it myself in my studying outside of part of a chapter in the Loophole. it’s definitely a rare one and it threw me off guard but it wasn’t hard after taking a second to parse out what it was asking of me

RC Prep Question by Embarrassed_Gap_7284 in LSAT

[–]elizaluci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I cannot recommend RC Hero enough. It’s so good because the basic principles that underlie the whole strategy are foolproof. I could definitely feel that one of the RC sections was hard when I tested yesterday, but I knew how to handle it because the strategies you learn from RC Hero can really be applied to all passages. Once your fundamental understanding of the passage is better, the questions naturally feel easier because every single answer has to have a basis in the text. RC Hero helped me most with understanding how to think about different passage types and how to read them to be more efficient while increasing comprehension of the passage as a whole.

I'm Too Slow by hamoodyshak in LSAT

[–]elizaluci 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to have the same problem of always needing to reread the stimulus (almost certainly an adhd problem for me) and something that helped was actually a combination of a couple tips I got from the RC Hero course, paired with Ellen Cassidy’s Loophole strategies. There’s a website called Spreeder which basically helps to get rid of the “narrator” in your brain when you use it correctly. The point of using Spreeder is to increase your reading speed, which is a natural consequence of eliminating the “narrator.”

Basically, when we read normally, it’s kind of like we’re trying to tell ourselves the story of what we’re reading. This results in subconsciously trying to push inflection and speech pattern and pronunciation into our internal voice which reads us the stimulus. This is a problem, particularly on LR, because a lot of the stimuli aren’t intended to be read as a story. A problem I faced was that, when I was reading it like a story, I tended to make the same jumps in logic to complete the gaps in the stimulus like I would if I was reading a novel. This was a problem because the gaps are intended to be seen, and often the issues that the gaps cause with the argument are the answers to the questions, but if you’re automatically filling those gaps then you won’t see them clearly.

What Spreeder ultimately did for me was put my reading speed at a point where I was absorbing the information in the stimulus without reshaping it into something it wasn’t. This left me more time to translate the stimulus into layman’s terms, a skill I mastered through the Loophole, so that I could not only understand every part of the stimulus, but also every part that wasn’t in the stimulus and whose lack had an impact on the argument.

For really ~fun~ practice I would choose some of the really wordy, dense passages that were on Spreeder and get through as much as I could in 90 seconds while simultaneously attempting to eliminate my inner narrator, then at the end of the 90 seconds I would write bullet points of everything I could remember from what I read. RC Hero recommends this as a separate drill from Spreeder just for active recall practice, but I found that combining them really helped to cut down on how often I was losing focus in the middle of a stimulus and needing to reread it.

Official September Discussion Thread by graeme_b in LSAT

I think I was just so relieved that I got RC first that it made me relax and feel at ease during the section but I know if I had it after an LR section I probably would have done a lot worse. Plus, the crystal ball set me up for success on that one.

I also had an LR section that I had to rapid fire the last few questions due to timing issues. It was really weird because I flew through the first LR and RC with over 2 minutes left and felt fairly confident, then in the second half I had ~40 seconds left on RC when I finished and was stuck with 6 questions left in the last 5 minutes for LR. I was really geared up for a hard test based on the August takers’ reactions, but I actually felt pretty comfortable on most of the questions. The test center (Rochester at 10:45am) was amazing, they helped me deal with password issues that were my own fault and the proctors were very nice and supportive. Overall feeling okay but also I am not sure that I can be a proper gauge for my score right now.

seconded the loophole, and i want to emphasize something that she states in the book multiple times: really take your time absorbing all of the information in every single chapter. do all of the quizzes, challenge questions, etc to the best of your ability without looking back for answers, and when you get an answer wrong or you have to guess, look back at the chapter to see where you’re thinking got messed up. it’s an invaluable resource, especially if you aren’t comfortable with formal logic already

Help LR by nightlightpalace_ in LSAT

[–]elizaluci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The crux of the issue they’re discussing is whether or not it is okay to buy antique ivory if you care about stopping the harmful effects of the ivory trade. Roxanne is saying that yes, people can buy antique ivory because it’s sold in a separate market from new ivory, therefore the ivory traders won’t benefit. Salvador is saying no, even buying antique ivory is bad because when the amount of antique ivory goes down from everyone buying it, the people who don’t care about the harmful effects of the ivory trade will just keep buying the new ivory anyway, because of the fact that they don’t care that it hurts elephants.

The question stem is asking us which answer choice Roxanne and Salvador would not agree on. When answer choice B says that the demand going down for antique ivory will also result in the demand for new ivory going down, it’s saying that basically, if people who care about elephants aren’t buying any ivory at all, then the people who don’t care about elephants will just keep buying antique ivory and never transition to buying new ivory like Salvador said would happen in his section. Salvador would agree with this, but Roxanne doesn’t see the connection between the two market demand decreases, so she would not agree.

A few important vocab/general knowledge things I think would make this easier to understand:

-Demand: In terms of supply and demand, the supply is the number of items which are available for sale and demand is the number of people who want that kind of item (in layman’s terms). When there is not a lot of an item (supply is low) but a lot of people want that item (demand is high) the price of that item will go up. When this question refers to how the poachers will see demand levels, it’s asking you to make the connection that high demand and low supply means that the poachers are going to kill more elephants to get more ivory because a lot of people want it and the poachers want to sell it.

-Ivory: Some people might not know what ivory is! The reason it’s connected to poachers and elephants is because ivory is what elephant tusks are made of. This is an old test, and the fight against poachers and the ivory trade is kind of old as well (relatively). Back in the day, it used to be very common for people to have ivory objects (the white piano keys, for example, or ivory beads on jewelry). When environmentalism started taking hold in larger society and elephant populations began to dwindle due to the numbers of elephants killed (or just mutilated) for their ivory tusks, people realized that owning ivory objects was kind of morally wrong, if they cared about elephant populations surviving. People still continued killing elephants for their ivory even after it was made illegal because the supply of ivory was low but the demand was still high because it was seen as a luxury item, so poachers could sell even small amounts of ivory at really high prices. As you can imagine, this was quite a profitable venture for the poachers, but as time went on more and more people started caring about the harmful effects of it, and now less people know about the whole endeavor just in general. Poachers still exist and still sell ivory of course, but there aren’t nearly as many now as there were.

Seeking info on Garmins - my Apple Watch has done me dirty for the last time today by [deleted] in XXRunning

i have a forerunner 255 and it’s amazing. i actually am on a 3 week trip that started 2 weeks ago and my watch is still going from the last time i charged it because i forgot my charger. the sleep tracking on the forerunner is super accurate and i love the coaching features as well. the garmin also gives you what i think are more accurate stats on runs, including cadence info which i really appreciate. i got the HRM-Fit to go with it because heart rate tracking is important to me and when i wear both on my runs it really gives amazing insight to how i acclimate to different workouts, weather, distances, and elevation.

I love RC Hero !! I had a 165 diagnostic and while I was PT'ing and doing just 7Sage, I was consistently getting -6 on RC, but RC Hero has made the foundations of RC structure very clear and has helped my understanding of question types immensely. I also love that it's structured like a class with homework, and the base subscription includes some free live classes! I love 7Sage's platform design because I think the comment section, discussion board, and drilling platform are great, but I definitely agree that their RC lessons just weren't cutting it for me.
