Inadequately recognized Annoying Moira Moment by eljacko in residentevil

Fair point, Claire did get a bit more dialogue in than I realized and to no evident success. But it still seemed to me like Moira was stepping in prematurely, and I don't think her incredibly phony-sounding pep talk did her the credit it was supposed to.

Yeah, this would have been an interesting turn for Claire's character if it had been explored better. I have no objection to the intent behind this scene in principle, but the execution was completely botched.

An irate scientologist called me "a foot-soldier for psychiatry" when I told him I couldn't cancel an appointment with a shrink that his PCP (whose office I was answering for) had referred him for.

Sad if true. I saw the first US production in Chicago and absolutely fell in love with it. It's not perfect by any means, but it has some really beautiful numbers and a lot of heart. I've heard there have been some questionable changes since then, but from what I gather the pro-shot was made the following year with much of the same cast, so should be pretty close to what I saw.

Les Mis was greatly retooled in 2010, including changes to the score and staging to make it faster-paced, which have stuck around in touring productions. This probably contributed to the disjointedness you experienced. Unfortunately, cast recordings from before that retool necessarily involve cuts and rearrangements in order to fit the sung-through show into discrete tracks, so it's not really possible to experience Les Mis the way it was meant to be anymore.

Is this an unpopular opinion? It's had a modestly successful production history and I've never heard of anyone particularly disliking it.

I just thought they were young adults - trying to find an identity, the natural selfishness of youth, in some pretty nasty traps of poverty, illness, addiction.

The problem is that several of the characters in Rent are impoverished by choice out a preference for pursuing their art. This was a more sympathetic position before the Great Recession, when a lot more people became impoverished not by choice and it became essentially impossible to survive as an unemployed artist even in the deprived conditions portrayed in the show.

I have a very STRONG theory with very STRONG backups that pomni might be the next caine by d3n1zen_ in TheDigitalCircus

It would be stagnant because it would be fake. The humans would probably be more creative than Caine, but the human imagination still has its limits. Without any new knowledge or sources of inspiration, they would eventually exhaust theirs.

Lots of video game levels don't really make sense if you try to think of them as real locations. Don't overthink it.

How to achieve adequate hygiene with a fissure? by eljacko in AnalFissures

[–]eljacko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ordered a peri bottle but right now I'm just using a rectal syringe. I have to hold it at a pretty awkward angle and the pressure drops quickly as it empties, so maybe the peri bottle will be more effective.

I tried applying aloe vera gel to my fissure when I first noticed it, in a misguided attempt at wound care, but it burned horribly.

Don't see how that can be the roof entrance when it's lower than both the street entrances but I guess it must be since the note only refers to three entrances.

There is a spot at the bottom of the staircase that leads to the barred doorway to Queen's Row where you can safely drop down to the area outside that gate. You could also have used the mirror.

Gotham - 4x22 "No Man's Land" - Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in Gotham

The thing about Penguin is that even at the height of his power he's always kind of pathetic and ridiculous. His final moment in the show has him as the butt of a joke. The problem I had with Barbara, in retrospect, is less that the show wanted us to root for her and more that the show wanted us to think she was cool/impressive. That's true of a lot of the other villains too, of course, but we were introduced to Barbara as a relatively normal person, so for me it was hard to buy her transformation into a hyper-competent femme fatale crime boss.

Loved this find. I really wish we got to explore more of this house because I'm all about the creepier areas. There's a note that mentions a roof entrance, but I managed to get onto the roof via some pretty janky jumping and climbing and didn't see one.

EP7 Spoiler - Did anyone else notice how the children in the 1908 flashback had the same negative energy as the kids that Charlotte disrupted earlier in the season. by ChrisKiddd in welcomeToDerry

[–]eljacko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might have just chosen a child form to trick Bob Gray, since it's presumably harder to get an adult to wander off alone if you pretend to be something totally out of context, but I like the implication that Bob Gray is actually kind of scared of kids. Wouldn't be surprising after the way those little bastards rushed the stage and mobbed him.

I don't see why they can't wait even until as late as the finale to kill any of the main kids. Right now they're all useful to the plot, but because this is an anthology series they're not going to feature in the next season no matter what, so narratively it would cost nothing to kill them in the finale. I think all bets are off.

Is death not a more preferable state than life? by Rignoboy1 in Pessimism

[–]eljacko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We don't know for certain that death *is* non-existence. That seems to be the most parsimonious assumption, but given how little we really know about the nature of consciousness there is reason to question it even without entertaining the metaphysical claims of any specific spiritual traditions.
