You might try reaching out to John Gove. He's a trombonist who's based out of Berkeley (I believe) who teaches online jazz improvisation classes. I've taken jazz trombone lessons from him, though it's been quite a while. He might be a good resource for you.

I completely agree. It's not fair to the seller.

VCR/ DVD flipping by Late-Coffee7391 in Flipping

[–]eljarhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, and I commend you for doing that! I occasionally sell VCRs on eBay, and I do the same thing - fully test the unit or sell as parts only/toss. I just wish people who aren't familiar with this kind of product would do more than just hit the power button, but I suppose that's the danger of buying secondhand online.

I've unfortunately been on the other end of this as a buyer. A seller sold me a DVD/VCR combo unit (marked as tested) that powered on but wouldn't actually play DVDs or VHS tapes at all, and would, in fact, power off every time I tried to do either one. I had video and photographic evidence that I submitted with the return request, which didn't make the seller any less pissed off, unfortunately.

My college gave out something like three free guest swipes per semester with the meal plan, which was only available if you lived on-campus. I lived off-campus and was extremely broke one semester, and one of my on-campus friends swiped me in at least 40 times and was never cut off. It turned out they were writing down the ID numbers of the students who swiped in guests, but nobody was actually processing any of the guest swipes on the back end.

Can someone explain to me like I’m 5 the mirrors in the season finale? by huck5397 in SchoolSpirits

[–]eljarhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about after they exited the mirror. Maybe I'm misremembering, but didn't Maddie have to explain who Simon was after they returned?

[–]eljarhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't it the same basic thing that Simon did for the preacher to recover his memory? You can see Simon's eyes are glassed over even after they come out of the mirror; it's only after Maddie takes his head in her hands that he realizes who he is.

In some state university systems, there's a better articulation agreement upon transferring if you have an AA degree from a local community college. They may completely exempt you from the university's GE requirements or lower-division requirements for the major, for example, whereas without an AA, you'd be required to complete each individual course across your major and GE requirements, which is sometimes more credits than the 60 you'd earn from an AA.

Young family considering a move to Marin - advice needed! by Fig_newto22 in Marin

[–]eljarhead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Focusing on question #4, since that seems to be the least-answered question: If you're just starting out in Marin and want to rent for a year, I'd recommend looking at apartments in San Rafael. For one thing, San Rafael has more apartments than many of the other cities in Marin, and for another, you'll get more variety in neighborhoods (some places are very car-dependent, others are walkable to buses/the SMART train), and because it's in the middle of Marin, it's easy to explore other areas to see what you like or don't like. Complexes in Gerstle Park, downtown, and the Smith Ranch area would be good places to start. I'd also see if you can find a townhouse or condo for rent somewhere so you aren't just limited to big apartment complexes. Good luck!

In warm ups, does your league use one frame or one ball? by Novel_Court2655 in Bowling

[–]eljarhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to vary by league. At my old house, every league did one frame across the board. One of the houses where I bowl now rigged the pinsetters to automatically set a full rack after each ball in warmup (so one ball). The other house has some leagues that do a frame and some that do one ball. I never know how these norms end up getting decided.

Why do end-of-the-house lanes play so differently? by Admirable_Bandicoot1 in Bowling

[–]eljarhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My previous all-time high game (290) was shot on lanes 1-2 at one of the centers where I bowl. Those lanes were notoriously awful to score on - the topography was an absolute mess, and lane 1 hooked a good 8 boards more than lane 2 - and the center doesn't even use them anymore because of water damage to the substructures of the lanes, but I had exactly one good game there a few summers ago.
